The summer targets...

Were we really in for Pelle, Creswell, sakho etc??

If so...it looks to me like our targets were decent, but were unfortunate to lose them to more established top flight clubs.

We have a very good scouting team what do you expect? If we stay up expect to be linked with some similar players next summer

Targets were decent. I also dont think the players we have a poor. They are just lacking in confidence at the moment.

Though the mistake we made was not strengthening the back 4

Agree with all of your post. Confidence is a massive factor in sport, winning brings confidence, so it's no surprise we are lacking in it at the moment. That late Burnley equaliser knocked the stuffing out of us, on top of Palace doing a job on us and us being so negative in games. This all led to a loss of confidence and a losing mentality.

As for the defence it wasn't amazing in the Championship last season, weak at set plays and a lack of mobility, so why it was thought the same defence would fare any better in the Prem is beyond me.

So it's the wage cap crippling is and can that really be down to Pearson or are we skint really despite the bravado and helicopters home

Not down to wages as far as I can see, just players wanting to go to more established clubs. Pelle knew Koeman from when he played for him in Holland, which would be a big draw for him. As for Sakho and Cresswell - I hate to say it, but West Ham are a marginally bigger side than us at the minute and have proved they can hack it in the Premier League.

The scout on twitter has intimated as much with some of his tweets about failed targets going on to perform at the highest level, with it being frustrating but pleasing at the same time. Frustrating that we missed out, but pleasing that the process works. Also talked about there often being a massive difference in quality between first choice and the others on the list... make of all that what you will.

West Ham are a much bigger club

I was thinking about this tweet the other day. Probably suggests he and other people are a little annoyed with the people doing the negotiating maybe.

If we used the same tactics used for getting Ulloa I am not suprised we lost out on players.

We probably ran out of time to so don't expect many to sign in Jan unless the business is already under way.

Ulloa was a joke we knew what we were happy to pay and what was over the top.

we should have made a realistic offer not spent weeks trying to save but end up paying it anyway.

Who knows, I'm not sure that's 100% the case. There can be many reasons a player goes elsewhere. If we have  budget and getting them means breaking it there isn't much anyone can do with the negotiations.

I would say it's a combination of things, wages we can offer, being a newly promoted club, type of contracts we can offer (probably got relegation wage drops in them), bigger clubs coming in for them, player just not wanting to move.

I don't think Pelle is hugely better than Ulloa, they're much of a muchness. I've been happy with Ulloa.

Pelle gets much better service because there's a much better team behind him.

Considering Ulloa has got 6 goals feeding off scraps, it's minor miracle.

Where's the bids for Pelle, Sakho and Cresswell??

Nowhere that's where.

Who we were in for was Deeney and McGoldrick, shocking.

Going into Prem with Koncheski only left back even more shocking.

Summer business was poor and there is no evidence if this global scouting network cos it failed to shit a golden egg in the summer months.

As Rafa said these are all FACTS

You do know that just because you don't know something, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I might not agree, but I like the sound of that sentence it's like bizarre paranoria can see it on a Movie poster

It is very likely that Pellè joined Southampton because he already knew Koeman.

I can but assume Cresswell and Sakho were offered more money by West Ham than we could ever match.

Plus, you could regard the Hammers as a more established top-flight club than us. :D

if wage is an issue offer the players a ridiculous bonus if they stay up??

very minimum we need a left back, centre back, attacking centremid/forward and striker. - all of which must be very very high quality. (spend the money nige)

- probably also need to loan a winger whilst Africa cup rubbish is on.

You're right buddy, that was a mistake, and probably a reason why our recruiting was so poor.

I wonder what Ulloa's shots-to-goals ratio is? It must be pretty bloody good.

Has anyone confirmed we have a wage cap? People sweat over it so much and we still don't even know if it exists!

Something like 7 goals in 10 shots on target.

He needs to be sitting up top, vardy on the last man... Ulloa getting into the box like a poacher... His positioning in and around the box is very good.. but he constantly has to drop into midfield because our middle players have been woeful at attacking...

If he could get himself into the box and play forward like at the start of the season he will hit that form again no doubt...

I don't mind him dropping deep from time-to-time as long as it's effective. Against Stoke he came into midfield to pick the ball up and spread it out wide so he could then receive it again in the box and score.

Andy Carroll dropped deep to flick on for Sakho's goal against Swansea last week. Steve Howard was very effective at that as well (albeit at a totally different level of football).

I think Ulloa is showing why we paid £8m for him but the rest of the side just aren't linking up with him as well as we did in the first few games.
