indierich06 Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 So can it now be put to bed that the signings identified were by Steve Walsh and not Terry Robinson. Thus rendering all the bloody comments on here about Terry Robinson being 'the problem' utterly wrong? Don't think anyone's claimed he was responsible for identifying players, more that he was at fault because we weren't able to get in the players that were identified by Walsh and Pearson. And if you look at some of the players we were linked with (Cresswell, Pelle, Sakho etc) we'd have a much better side if we'd managed to land some of them. Whether any of that is actually Robinson's fault is another question. And I expect we'll never get a proper answer. But he's not been sacked for no reason, has he?
MC Prussian Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 If true, again it shows just how little posters on here who claim to be 'in the know'...aren't. And what wild speculation is written. Wild, wild speculation. Well, it's a big "if" on your behalf, as well. How much of the comments made to the media during that press conference were the full truth? Ever heard of protecting your staff or being diplomatic? In the end, your type of speculation is just as good as mine.
5waller5 Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 As I understand it Walsh identifies the players and puts them to Pearson, Pearson decides who he wants and Robinson deals with the actual contracts. It's Pearson's job to persuade players to come subject to them accepting the contract details the value of which would be determined by the overall budget set by the board. So we could miss out on players - If Walsh fails to spot them If Pearson either doesn't want them or fails to convince them to come and play for him. If Robinson cannot agree on the financial aspects of any contract either through incompetence, they didn't like his negotiating methods or because they wanted too much and it would take the club outside the agreed budget. This is exactly how it works and is the model used by almost all clubs .... TR clearly didn't close as many deals as he should have .... nobody will successfully negotiate all their deals but he should be winning the majority, presumably he fell short of the required hit rate. Charm and selling skills as well as money will have been factors and let's face it - he didn't come across as having an abundance of armoury!!
5waller5 Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 A few people! Read the thread back thru..an unbelievable jumping to conclusions knowing NO facts springs to mind.. in the case of lots. I don't get you Col .... You've made 17000 posts ... none of which have any insight, all just personal opinion ... and yet you seem to spend a lot of time being negative about anyone else posting unless they have a rock solid source.
filbertway Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 Was genuinely shocked that he was in charge of spending such vast amounts of money based on his Ice Bucket challenge video. Sounded like he'd been in the Pub since opening time. Probably a nice chap, but doesn't strike me as the type that should be involved in high level negotiations.

They also went on to say, effectively, that now we can go on to sign whoever we want because Robinson won't scupper it! Which, of course, now sounds utter gubbins. Big difference.
Babylon Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 A few people! Read the thread back thru..an unbelievable jumping to conclusions knowing NO facts springs to mind.. in the case of lots. I've read it and can't see many posts about people thinking Robinson picked the targets, so yes a few.
Dan Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 I thought it was a case of Walsh/Pearson (mainly Walsh) found the players, and Robinson then negotiated a deal to sign them, Robinson missed out on a lot of players and as a result has been let go ahead of the next transfer window after it's now become pretty clear we've suffered due to our lack of recruitment. Is it not any more than that?

Bettsj2 Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 Nobody knows, the real reason will probably never come out. But the way Pearson was talking it came across as perhaps another issue. It could be something quite simple, like he is actually a racist and nothing to do with the transfers.

nettle Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 So all these crap players were identified by Walsh and Pearson and it wasn't Terry Robinson's fault that makes it seem even worse to me!
Babylon Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 So all these crap players were identified by Walsh and Pearson and it wasn't Terry Robinson's fault that makes it seem even worse to me! Sigh... anyone want to explain.
GingerrrFox Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 So all these crap players were identified by Walsh and Pearson and it wasn't Terry Robinson's fault that makes it seem even worse to me! Walsh and Pearson had a number of targets for the summer transfer window. The only one we acquired was Leonardo Ulloa. The rest we missed out on. The DOF's job is to get them signed to the club.
Soar Fox Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 Who's the bird in the White top?? She's decent!
Dr The Singh Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 Sigh... anyone want to explain. Can anybody but Babs explain, please
Babylon Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 Who's the bird in the White top?? She's decent! His daughter... she'll be sorely missed.
The Doctor Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 So all these crap players were identified by Walsh and Pearson and it wasn't Terry Robinson's fault that makes it seem even worse to me! No. How it works is - scouting team and manager identify targets and then the DOF acquires them. So, if we missed out on our targets, that's Robinsons fault.
Soar Fox Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 His daughter... she'll be sorely missed. Bet Bakayogo will miss her...
nettle Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 Sigh... anyone want to explain. Who were they trying to sign they didn't get?
nettle Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 Is Babylon related to Pearson? The bloke can't do anything wrong according to him it's always everyone's else's fault.
