After flirting with the Balkans, it's looking Bergen next for my travels.

The attraction of somewhere bit more accessible in its openness with fjords etc. Then I have found out Brann at home and they have a park run. Then finding out that it's National Day on 17th May when I intend to go so the city will be absolutely buzzing.

Sherwood Forest? Edwinstowe and all around there.

That;s why we took my Mum with us as a family when she was unwell. Hospital in Mansfield Woodhouse as well in case anything goes wrong.

Good few days in Koh Samui, proper sunshine and good food, drink, tropical scenery etc. Not so great that a war starts as we’re at the airport to go home. Made it to Bangkok and stranded here now as the middle east is shut for the foreseeable and all flights into Europe are sold out for days. Qatar airways said nothing yet but I presume 100,000s are contacting them. Try my luck via China or Singapore but it’s looking really tough.

Wow that was intense. I've got into a few scrapes travelling but nothing like this. Feel sorry for the many thousands of people at BKK airport without cash, credit cards, phone signal, sufficient English, a decent passport which allows more transit options and the travel experience to get out of a hole like this. They will likely be stuck for days/weeks with zero assistance, European flights are sold out and hotel availability is nearly zero. Seeing so much media attention on those stuck in the Middle East, but they have food and accomo assistance. In the transit hubs it's like the hunger games.

I got back via the last available seat through Guangzhou.

Glad you're sorted!

Off to NYC for the first time in June with my Mrs, and recommendations or Advice?

Thanks in advance!

Lots of thoughts, curious for where you’re staying and for what you’re looking for? Outdoors, live entertainment, etc. It’s a big place.

World Cup isn’t being played in NYC proper (stadium is across the river in NJ), but there will be plenty of action in NYC for it.

Staying in the RUI Plaza in times square, pretty open to be honest we'd be looking for Iconic sights/views - food places/markets and shopping/neighbourhood vibes such as Soho and Chelsea I guess.

I'm going 22 June or around then for a few days during the world cup, have you booked things yet? Are prices stable? Impossible to say on reccos or advice, it's one of the most fun cities in the world with unlimited options. You can do whatever you desire at any hour of the day.

They sell great fish and other seafood at the stalls on the waterfront. There´s also a funicular railway to go up for a panoramic view.

We went up the Empire State Building (at night), and on a boat trip to Liberty Island and Ellis Island (the Immigration Museum).

Boat from financial district over to Brooklyn/Dumbo. Some really cool places over this side of the river. Great beers at Evil Twin taproom and Other Half Domino Park. Then head to L’Industrie for pizza. Boat back over to Manhattan.

High line walk to Chelsea market.

Gallaghers steakhouse.

Olio E Piu Italian restaurant in Greenwich.

Just come back from there, although it was February and the weather was -16 it’s gonna be a bit different for you, but defo advise  you do the 1  World Trade Center and museum, massive eye opener  very sad but has to be done, we had a walking tour before and the bloke was great some great information you wouldn’t of known, the summit was a great sky scraper, we did top of the rock at night so you could get a good view of the Empire State Building and the New York City lights, we stayed in Times Square which was also quite cool, New York was everything I expected surreal over top I absolutely loved every minute of it and will certainly go back in the spring in the next 2 years as there is so much more to do!
I suggest getting the “get my guide app” as it’s great for booking things with and found it cheaper!

That’s exactly were we stayed really good hotel, try to get a high floor we had great views, breakfast was spot on to, literally Times Square is a 3 min walk from the hotel, also a bit of advise down load the app called “citymapper” was very helpful for getting around step by step guide that includes subways, I think my misses got a sim around £8 for data, I got ripped of by 02 and got charged £7 a day 👍

Excellent hotel - stayed there September 2024. Loads of bars and restaurants on West 46 Street - we ate at Sicily (Italian). Favourite bar was The Dead Rabbit on Water Street - we went there having been at 911 Memorial as (roughly) in that area. Best advice we got was to visit Grand Central Station early AM, and if you can get to Central Park on a weekend there’s loads going on. We took the World Trade Center tour option - slightly more expensive but got a very personalised trip and well worth the extra in our view. Of all the ‘normal’ touristy things, Top of the Rock was the one that we enjoyed most. Be prepared to walk lots, but we used subway too without any issues despite what we’d heard prior to our trip. Shout if any queries

I’ve not booked anything yet for this summer yet, however I’ve sorted of discounted flying via Dubai or into Asia at this point.

How much discount did you get on the flights? Some bargains out there?

Statue of liberty , Empire state etc. Buy the fast passes though. It'll save you hours.

I really enjoyed the Intrepid Museum and we did a great behind the scenes tour of Madison Square Garden. The 9/11 Museum is heartbreaking but well worth it, we only covered half of it in one afternoon.

If you haven't been to the states for a while, or NYC in particular, my main advice is: adjust your expectation for how much everything is going to cost.

I've not been to the US for 2 years and prices were steep then. I'm not looking forward to 2 nights in May, after a cruise, which have been forced on me by the airline changing my flights.

If you've not been before, be prepared that menu prices do not include any compulsory taxes and not compulsory extra 18 - 40% tip! Even if you just order a drink they try to add a substantial tip. Imagine going to your local, ordering a pint and then they want 25% extra just for pouring said pint.
