Going on a Caribbean cruise end of March to celebrate mine and my wifes 40th birthdays. I turned 40 last November and the wife is this coming November.

Some of you know about my son Ashton and his additional needs. He has now got into the habit of squealing when he gets excited when watching his Ipad. So the flight is going to be so much fun. Honestly its so high pitched and loud i think i need to bring hundreds of earplugs to hand out to people lol

Have you been before ?  What Islands are you visiting. As some are nicer than others. Enjoy anyway.

Weve never done a Caribbean cruise before so will be new to us. We are visiting Barbados, BVI, Netherlands, St Kitts & Nevis, Antigua & Barbuda, Guadelope, St Vincent & Grenadines, Grenada, Aruba and Curacao

We did a Med cruise a few years ago and loved it. So now im really looking forward to it. Ive also got 2 rooms, an adapted one for me and Ashton and another for the wife and daughter. So should hopefully not feel so crammed.

If you have any tips or tricks then im all ears

Some very good choices there. There are some I've enjoyed much less than others, these are not any of those. We accidentally went on a Caribbean cruise the other year and to islands we knew we didn't like so, didn't even get off the ship!

Having 2 cabins is a very sensible idea, you'll have far more storage and space, especially if you need any additional stuff for Ashton. If you do have a lot of stuff, bags, hats etc I'd  highly recommend getting magnetic hooks - cabin walls and ceilings are metal, so great for keeping this bits stored out of the way.

Magnetic hooks are a great shout. I'll take a look at ordering some right now. Thanks for the tip.

I requested an adaptive cabin for Ashton but they only sleep 3 people. So it was either have all 4 of us crammed into one room. Which with 5 suitcases (an additional suitcase for Ashton's pads) his wheelchair and walker and 4 people would not have been comfortable. Or pay an extra £1200 to have a second cabin.

The thought of spending so much money and for us to be crammed into one cabin felt like a waste. So I much preferred paying more money to have 2 cabins just for storage. So we have 1 adaptive cabin and 1 standard cabin. So should have lots of room.

Thinking of going up to Lake District in next couple of weeks.   Is there plenty to do if it rains and would Scafell Pike be likable this point of year?

Any location recommendations to stay in would be incredibly useful too!

Very likable :P

Always had a good experience staying in Keswick.

Belgrade.

A real vibe city - nightlife superb, not pretty to look at, free public transport but incredible shaky, not a huge amount of attractions, Serbs like to booze. It reminded me of Berlin - they are very pretty places to eat and drink, you just need to know where to go. The only reason I don't think it's been taken over by British lads is that Ryanair don't fly there. There's some beauty in it not being this perfectly formed city. The derby was incredible to be at but then heard a story off a lad from Leeds next to me who got beat up by Russians at the game!

I'm 50/50 if I'd visit again but it is time to go deeper into the Balkans.

What are you looking to do?  We got a place in Underscar near Keswick for the reason if the weather beats us there's a town to eat and drink in.  Around Scarfell there's not vast amounts of back up things to do as it's a bit further out and away from settlements.  That said, the weather can clear up in the lower valleys so even if Scarfell is inaccessible, there are lots of other walking opportunities to be had.

Sarajevo is the one. Popular with tourists of course but very beautiful and interesting culturally.

Typically people do Scafell from Wasdale head, accessing from the West. It's pretty quiet that side in terms of other things to do but still very picturesque. Alternatively you could stay Keswick side (more to see and do that side) and walk up from somewhere near Borrowdale it's just a longer and steadier approach and means more navigating.

It's a well established path from Wasdale head and I imagine with the weather this week any significant snow will be gone from the tops. I say that as I went out hiking from Patterdale last weekend and in places at 400-600m we had knee deep snow. We were prepared but still got battered by strong winds and sleet.

Any which way, be prepared for the worst weather wise if you go out and hope for the best.

Some lovely Islands there to visit. I've done a lot of Cruising down the years and been to the Caribbean plenty of times.  My personel fav is the BVI. From the sea to Roatan were the Ship Berths takes about an hour. It's like sailing up a river of lovely coloured landscape and Scenery. With lots of  Greenery and Coloured Birds.  You also pass by  R Bransons Necar island. Then when you Dock in Roatan,  All the Shop are close by.  St Kitts and Antigua are also very nice. The rest of them are mainly about Sea and Sand and some nice old towns etc.

You'll know so that they feed you to death on the Cruises with plenty of selection. With. Silver service Breakfast or less formal on the Pool Dec. Then the Buffet starts about 11am and goes on to 5pm

Burgers, Chilli, Chips Pasta and Ice cream. Formal Lunch at 12.30 or 1 pm.  Some Cr Lines insist on wearing a Jacket for Evening Dinner.  A lovely 4 Course meal. Then at Midnight you have the misdnight Buffet, more Food. You certainly put on weight on them.

The Best tip I can give you is to book a Cabin in the middle of the Ship. It's where to ship moves the least and so less likely to suffer sickness.

Another good tip is,  They usually have 2 Sittings for Dinner one at 6 and another at 8pm. Best to ask for the first Sitting for Dinner. That way you have the Choice of Seats for the Evening Show unlike those on the 2nd Sitting, Who have to take whats seats are left. Also some lines do 2 Show to solve the seating problem. So if your on the first Sitting you can go to the Show twice if it's very good.

The other thing we found helpfully to buy the Drinks packages as they usually work out the best Value.

Another trick we found useful was to pack as little clothes as possible or to bring Clothes your happy to trow away,  As you tend to buy a lot of Clothes in Florida along with Trainers.

Great Shopping in Florida.

Another important thing to remember is don't go swimming for at least 2 days after a long flight as your more likely to get an Ear infection.

I'm sure you and the Family will have a wonderful time. I just love going to Florida for a Holiday. Enjoy.

I'm doing the classic thing of suggesting something not asked for, but Lake Bala is a grest place to visit and is well located (but defo not a coastal resort!)

Decided to do a bit of a random trip in a couple of weeks. Flying to Paris and staying the night. Next day we get the train to Zurich for one night. Day after that we get the train to Lake Como for 3 nights then train to Verona for 2 nights.

Not too bothered about Paris even though I've never been but the wife wanted to go and realise its probably too short a trip to see much in Switzerland but it'll be an adventure!

Anyone been to Paguera in Majorca?

Yes but we didn't stay there, it was a stop on a day of exploring that side of the island so probably not much help. For what it's worth I remember it being small but nice

Ljubljana is one if the nicest cities I've been to, although granted there haven't been that many. But we loved it, and Slovenia in general, it's very near the top of our list of places we'd love to return to

Not getting off the ship is madness! Only Caribbean islands i wasnt really a fan of was Tobago and Guadeloupe but im sure if we had done some more research there'd be some amazing things to do there.

I would recommend looking around Barmouth/Portmaddog.

Not loads in either of those places specifically by way of resorts, but they are coastal and on the edge of Snowdonia so you have the mountains on your doorstep as well and the whole area is very pretty. Loads of old industrial heritage and stuff like that too.
