Cheers @lifted*fox & @isaidno - will definitely check those out. There's a holocaust memorial that looks pretty good, so will go there too.

Budapest should cure the January blues

The Holocaust memorial is great, you'll definitely need a few beers after though so head to Lehuto for all the tasty beers you could want.

Going to Budapest next weekend with me girlfriend. Anyone been before? Things to do?

Would agree with all the stuff mentioned, look out for Leicester stickers in Szimpla Kert.

Also rate the free walking tour which departs from the fountain at Vorosmarty ter. Entertaining and a great way to see much of the city.

Take a tram up the river and visit Princess Margaret Island if you have time. Nice sights along the way and a big park with lots of animals to enjoy when you get there.

Got a trip to Iceland for a week next month. Booked **** all other than the flights so far. Any tips on bits not to miss and decent (and not eye-wateringly expensive) places to stay?

If I rent a car, will the roads be passable outside Reykjavik this time of year?

Maybe.

My daughter went with the school last February and the roads were clear then. That said, just a few days before she went there was a heavy downfall of snow, so...

Edit: Apparently, the Blue Lagoon is well worth the visit.

Iceland is fantastic, I would imagine the roads will be passable on the golden circle route which is something you defo want to do. Geysers, waterfall and national park.

Blue Lagoon is good but is a man made pool basically, search for other pools as some are natural and others aren’t but are loads cheaper.

As far as where to stay, it is expensive so I would probably check out AirBnB as that what you could save money by cooking etc.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was watching a Rick Stein show (don't judge) and he went to one of the less popular springs which I think I'll seek out. Looking forward to trying some ludicrous cuisine while I'm out there too.

Have been looking at hostels as I'm going on me tod and might be nice to meet some folk, but I think I'm getting too old for that these days.

No judgement on Rick Stein, the guy is a legend. That spring is the one I was thinking of, My friend went there and enjoyed it.

Blue Lagoon is still a must visit to say you have done it but you get similar experiences elsewhere.

The church is worth a visit as well, I went up to the top of it and you get decent views of the city. How long will you be there for?

1 week. I think I only really need 2 days for Reykjavik, so other than the 'obvious' highlights, I'm not yet sure what else to fill my time with. I've got a guidebook arriving today so hopefully that will provide some inspiration.

I'll be taking my DSLR so I can ponce about taking some wanky photos - fingers crossed I'll see some of the northern lights. I do enjoy a bit of a hike, but a bit worried it might be too cold as I've not got any specialist winter gear.

I was going to say a couple of days in Reykjavik and you are done as its a really small city.

If you go for a week and get yourself out every night you will see the Northern Lights I bet, I didn't see them there but did when I spent a week in Norway and Sweden on about 4 of the days.

Not sure when the whale watching tours run over there but that is something I would have loved to have done if I visited in the right season.

That’s what I like to hear. Did you go to a game reserve when you went? Was going to build in a few days in Kruger but I’ve already spent a fortune and that will add a right wedge on.

I’ve been to quite a few places in my time, but Cape Town and S Africa are without a shadow of a doubt my best City and country I’ve visited.

where are you staying in CT?

@Merging Cultures is definitely the man.

Thought the same and was travelling with the wife and kids.

really don’t have to worry.Obviously don’t be stupid!

most murder crime stats are from townships I understand.

went Whale watching near where you are shark diving ( near Hermanus) lovely place.Think you’ve missed them at this time of year.

You can get sightseeing buses and just get off/on.Really good, the longer one is great.

It was one of those places I just didn’t want to leave, I was only there 4 days and it wasn’t long enough.

Yeah I saw about the Townships so should be fine really.

I’m there for a week and have a pretty packed schedule with Robben Island, Cape Point, Climbing Table Mountain, Shark diving and Stellenbosch but hoping to just chill out for a day or two as well.

Yeah all the whales will have gone by now which is a shame.

I didn’t climb Table Mountain as that would just be stupid, but I managed to do Robben Island and Table mountain on the same day.If it’s clear just go.

Robben island is an eye opener.

Definetely will go back and I don’t often say that.So jealous.
