Visited Villa del Balbianello yesterday ...   which those sharp eyed amongst you will recognise from scenes from Casino Royale and one of the Star Wars films ...

Nice, I drove past that a few times when I was over there.

You should have gone in ...   it’s on an island and the explorer who lived there has a massive collection of artefacts from all over the world ...   the views and gardens are stunning and it has secret passages that the cardinal who originally lived there used to escape from anyone who was after him ...

Yeah, I’m not too sure why we didn’t to be honest with you but never mind!

What airport did you fly into?

Looking at booking Florida next year. Quick question for anyone who's been, is it cheaper to book the park tickets online now or cheaper to book them when you get there? I've heard differing opinions on this

We always book park tickets in advance before we go mate. I've just used these again for the 4th year in a row:

https://www.orlandoattractiontickets.co.uk/

We've considered buying them when you get there, but getting tickets 'on the gate' is no cheaper that buying them in advance (from my research and experience)

There are places there that advertise 'discounted' park tickets but they always look like dodgy back street places to me so we've always avoided them. They claim to sell tickets cheaper than the official lines but if it's too good to be true then it probably is.

All depends what parks you want to do really. Disney is by far and away the most expensive so we're giving it a miss this year and just doing Seaworld and Universal parks instead.

Cheers mate, looking at doing Universal & Disney. I've already been to SeaWorld and the missus is a bit funny about SeaWorld also so that isn't a priority. Looking at the site you linked that looks good price wise so we'll probably book through them, thanks for that

Because of work and family commitments I only get to go away in October, I’ve been going to Lanzarote for a number of years and am thinking of going to .Fuerventura instead, can anyone recommend anywhere there that has decent beaches?

Thanks

Fuertaventura has some of the best beaches I have been to. There is a national park just outside of the main tourist area which has a huge and very nice beach.

I stayed in a deserted place called La Pared I think and that had a fantastic empty beach a few minutes walk away. The sea is very rough there though.

Thanks, I’d sooner go to an empty beach, I’ll look at La Pared.

Driving down to Annecy in France for a week in the summer.

Been four times previously and love it - proper scenic lake in the mountains.

A week of wine, BBQ and cycling about. Bring it.

Image result for annecy lake

I really fancy going to Annecy, looks beautiful.

I'm interested to know about driving down, how long does it take, what crossing do you do

and what stop offs do you make?

It seems a bit of a pain to get to, I've looked at flying to Geneva but there doesn't appear to be a direct way to get to

Annecy from there.

Have you been to the Antiques market on the Saturday?, I saw it on TV and looks pretty good with a lovely backdrop.

Sorry for all the questions but any info would be appreciated!

Hi mate,

No worries about the questions. I've not got time to post all the answers now but I'll pop on later and tell you everything you need to know.

That's very good of you to take the time, don't worry though I'm not planning on going till next year.

Look forward to reading your info, thanks mate!

Right, here we go...

Annecy is awesome. I've been several times. Huge blue lake surrounded by cycle paths, mountains, little towns. Close to Chamonix which is a nice day out too. You can swim in the lake, rent a boat, sit on the grass beaches. You can spend time in Annecy itself which is great. The cycle paths are superb - if you have a bike, take it! You can spend hours just riding around the lake or venturing off into the mountains.

Getting there is pretty simple. We drive from Leicester to Dover and then catch the crossing (one hour + lose an hour). We then drive 2 hours into France and stay at a great little place called Saint Quentin. We use the Ibis in the centre (free to book, pay on arrival) and they always look after us / let us put bikes in storage over night. There is a car park right outside. There are loads of nice bars / restaurants for an evening meal / drink. We then get up early the next morning and it's about a 6 hour drive to Annecy. You'll do 3 hours and then probably stop for some food / water and then knock out the next 3 hours. If you've got kids there are stops every few miles on the motorways. It's possible to do the whole thing in one go but the Leicester to Dover section is the killer in the end. We find it's best to split the travel across two days.

Regarding motorways - French motorways are normally empty. You only ever hit traffic if there's an accident and even then it isn't too bad. You pay for the privilege - the tolls are somewhat expensive - expect the Annecy run (A26/A39/A40) to set you back approx. £100. It's a couple of tanks of fuel in most cars I've driven as well. Keep google maps on your dash and it'll take you around anything that's going to cause too much pain - it's ALWAYS saved me and I rely on it 100% in France - **** normal / old sat-navs.

We have been to pretty much most of the markets in Annecy and they're all great fun.

We tend to stay with Eurocamp (camping) - you'll be hard pushed to find a decent booking for this year as they get taken up early but if you're happy in a tent / static home then they're great fun. We love doing Eurocamp - much prefer it to a hotel / guesthouse. There's always something going on on-site, entertainment, people-watching, etc. BBQ every night and enjoy cheap but good French wine until the sun goes down.

Hope that helps! Fire more questions if you have them!

Funnily enough I was talking about Wish You Were Here the other day and saying how shows about holidays like that don't exist any more.

I googled her and apparently she never wore knickers on Wish You Were Here to avoid them showing through her clothes.

Imagine that, eh.

I'd rather not ...
