Blacksmiths arms in barrow and hunting lodge are both around £32 i think for 3 courses. Both regarded as "good" - prefer hunting lodge though, ate Blacksmiths arms for Sunday roast last weekend and it was really disappointing.

In the end we went to The Crab and Cow in Leire, it was really nice and £32/34 for our 3 courses.

Our friends are Rugby way and we're NW so,  Barrow sadly wouldn't be ideal.

Also went to The Bull in Broughton for lunch last week, not Sunday and that was really nice.

I remember probably only three years ago you could get a good 3-course Sunday menu for around £25pp. Heard bull is OK now, last time i went was a bit young age group drinking place. May be worth giving it another go

Any good shouts for Curry houses in town than can house a big group?

Not the place at the top of Granby Street where you go downstairs into it.

Hmmm, Town no i couldn't but Mumbai Inn, London Rd or Spice Bazaar, Welford Rd are really top notch and only a 5-10 minute taxi!

Anyone know is Shimla Pinks has changed hands?

It’s kind of our regular midweek pre match meal place for years. I’ve always loved it and never really had any dodgy side effects from eating there.

Went last night for the first time this season, the usual staff didn’t seem to be in, menu had had a revamp. The food was decent, had my usual, slightly bigger portions if anything, just looked a little different. It wasn’t as busy as usual.

The problem was it just didn’t sit well afterwards just didn’t feel comfortable watching the game, had acid reflux on and off all night.

Never had a problem before when eating there.

Went Paddy Martens the other day and found it to be a bit overrated tbh. It wasnt bad by any means but i wasnt wowed like i was expecting considering the hype

Yeah fair, I have quite a few mates who think similar. If you just want a standard curry and rice then it's nothing special at all. It's all the other indo/chinese and east african stuff, which you don't get at standard Indian restaurants, which makes it great IMO.

Went to the Three Kilns last night. In common with quite a few similar places it's still sort of a pub, with big TVs showing music videos and the main dining area not the cosiest, but the food was really good and the service impressive given how busy it was. Was part of a massive booking and it was great to be able to order and pay at the counter first so we didn't have to faff about going through the bill at at the end.

Would go back, but next on the list is The Broadway

Little Club was as good as ever last night. The starters are excellent! Was buzzing in there, both floors full.

Weird how people want a different experience from their dining.

Whilst a full busy restaurant is a sign of a good restaurant (usually - sometimes is just good marketing and fads), I prefer a quiet (though not deserted) diner where you can readily get service.

yeah fair. I think in an ideal world I'd like a place to be two thirds full. The service was still good in Little Club despite it being so full.

I'm going there tomorrow night, we have a xmas doo for work at the Hampton Country Club

Original in handsworth is the best, they have about 5 of them, the one next to the in laws, the old cottage isn't too bad.

Recommendations for somewhere fairly casual near Leicester Cathedral.

Could try Merchant of Venice on the Lanes, that’s got some great reviews and got nice atmosphere, albeit we only went in for drinks at the time.
