It’s nice, but it wasn’t cheap the last time I went a few years ago.

We moved in 2009 and I do vaguely recall it was pricier than others but it isn't now. I was actually surprised by how reasonable it was. Came to £30 pp and we had about 4 or 5 drinks each, although one was non alcoholic drinks.

Used to go years ago - sounds like it’s still ok then !

Definitely!

I have indeed been to what a shot! I went at the start of last year and thought it was fairly decent, albeit nothing special. However, it has recently been taken over by the people who run the Broadway, so I would expect it to be pretty solid now. It's an impressive venue with loads of screens showing the sport.

Chef's Flavour have opened a sister restaurant in Glenfield if you wanted somewhere close to Groby. I haven't done Chef's Flavour yet, but I believe it's proper Indian food rather than Bangladeshi.

Good ones of note this year have been Jaanu off the A46 and Doon Spice (lamb leg special recommended). Also did Sheepscar Bar & Grill up in Leeds which was just as good as some of the Punjabi stuff I've had in Brum. Still need to do Durham Ox, Chef's Flavour, Himalaya and Balmoral on Melton Road.

Off to Gurkha New Delhi in Sorrel on Sat with some pints at the Swan and Pinsent beforehand- what dreams are made of!

Ah the curry master! I want to try what a shot, I have heard it's an Indian restaurant not the typical oily Bangladeshi/Bengali mild spiced 'curry' house. You been? Any good?

forgot to quote you above

What's the Kayal like (near the train station) Indian restaurant?

Kayal is part of our match day ritual. Highly recommend, dosas are almost too big, and I'm a big guy...

Yeah it is still really good after all the years it has been there. Like you said massive portions.

Prefer Spice Cube to Gurkha New Delhi but they’re both good.

What are the best places you’ve ate at round this way since being over here? Looking for somewhere for a decent birthday meal in a few weeks and haven’t really tried many food places since moving over here

John’s House, if you can get in, best food I’ve ever eaten and it was just the lunch menu. Comes out to ~£50ish per head but it’s far better value than say 3 courses at somewhere a rung or two down like the Knight & Garter

The Monk in Quorn is reliably very good, can’t go wrong with the Griffin in Swithland either.

Went to the Monk in Quorn a couple of weeks ago it was superb. Think I mentioned it on here - there’s a Deano pub opposite.

Agree with JH too - went once for lunch as a bday present, fantastic, the farm shop they have round the corner is worth a visit too - Clarkson farm style pricing mind you.

£50ish for lunch I should add. Evening menu is pricier but it’s 7 courses iirc.

Food and the staff are great at the monk, absolutely nails the basics which most places don’t.

You’re right, The White Hart is a good pub though besides the boohoo man JM10 interior.

The tea room/cafe is worth having breakfast or lunch in at Stonehurst and it’s pretty reasonably priced.

Yep agreed, dragged the nipper round that farm park 10+ times just to go to the tea room after

Big news! Where did you hear this?

Someone who knows them mentioned it to me.

The Aberdale in Wigston has been bought by Broadway & Oadby sports bar owners. About October time it should be up and running for serving food.

The experience of John's House is incredible. You don't understand what flawless service is until you witness it. Everything comes out the perfect amount of time after the last course. When I went I was blown away by the overall package. When it came to the food John does like to challenge sometimes and I didn't necessarily like everything I ate but it almost didn't matter, it's the best meal I've ever eaten (a 9 course tasting menu).

I ate at the elephant in Torquay recently which is another 1* restaurant and the food was less challenging - everything was gorgeous flavours that were bound to be liked - but the experience wasn't quite as amazing as John's House.

Service is a massive part when eating at a Michelin star place.

Going for the second time in September. Seven course tasting menu with the wine pairing. Very much looking forward to it!

Speaking of good restaurants I’m going to Upstairs in Lichfield in September. Been wanting to go for ages and had to book pretty much a year in advance.
