These supposed 'secret footballer' articles are becoming a license to print whatever bullshit the newspaper wants to.

Mark Blake.

No chance, nobody at the Merc could even track him down when they did the article a while back about the players from that era.

Oh well, in that case Jamie Lawrence?

I'd got it down to Carey, Ormondroyd, Whitlow or Ian Marshall. I thought Phil Gee at first, but maybe not, seeing as he mentions playing years later. As for the others, could you imagine any of them dancing?

I think they might be being a bit liberal with the 'played with some of the best players ever', either that or a bit harsh on the not being a household name among Leicester fans. But they seem to have been there during a successful era, at one point at least, signed at the same time as another player, and not been especially young (or established) when they joined. Unless they came through the youth system but just took years to make a debut, like Oakes or Lewis for instance.

So did Marshall sign or make a debut at the same time as anyone else?

They say 'in the blue of Leicester' so I'm guessing it's not Poole or Gavin Ward.

Either way, I clearly have too much time on my hands right now. As do they.

I'm certain it's Matt Piper. I have just read all of them and he has put a couple of those stories on his twitter page a few years ago.

Especially the one when he was away on international duty with England youngsters and Sunderland appointed Howard Wilkinson. He made a remark about how much of a tosser Wilkinson was accoridng to others who knew him. One of the England coaches fed this back to Wilkinson.

I think this guy says he was playing a few years after he left City. And he 'wasn't the youngest' when he made his debut. So I think that rules Piper out.

Dickov called La Manga 'the darkest time' of his career, whereas this guy says Leicester was the best time of his career. Plus he signed, or at least made his debut, at the same time as another player, which Dickov didn't.

Carey, Whitlow, Ornondroyd, Marshall, Gee, Oakes... going to be one of them, I reckon.

.

Piper played his final game for Sunderland in 2005, 3 and a half years after leaving City.

As I said Piper posted a couple of those stories almost word for on his twitter account 2 or 3 years back.

I think when he says he wasn't the youngest to make his debut he means his own age rather than in comparison to the rest of the squad. He was 20 when he made his City debut. Not exactly early.

I know I'm probably talking to myself on this but here's a quote from Piper taken from a Sunderland site.

'Howard Wilkinson came strolling in with Steve Cottrill and stood quite and motionless infront of us all, u cuda heard a pin drop... '

'Cottrill was clearly upset and Howard began to speak.............. Everyone knew it was a a important moment, room was deftly quiet!'

'Howard, took a deep breath and said.... "I've been fired as the Manager of the football....." And before he finished his sentence......... '

'Tom Peeters exploded in to raptures of applause and whooping!! Shouting GOOG, GOOD GET IN THERE, GOOD RIDDANCE , GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! '

'Wilko wasn't amused, but can't recall them really saying anything, a few players laughed,a few we're also gobsmackd & some went mad
