The Doctor Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Yes, so let's wait until we're 10 games in before we start talking about him being worth 10s of millions (based on this thread, not your posts). So to establish, you can't have any value from proving yourself over previous seasons? Better tell QPR that Austin is only worth a freddo
ScouseFox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Yes, so let's wait until we're 10 games in before we start talking about him being worth 10s of millions (based on this thread, not your posts). i guess so, however the thread is about how much we'd potentially sell him for. so if miraculously a bid came in before the transfer window closed then people are saying we wouldn't sell him for less than tens of millions. if a bid came in we couldn't say "can we wait 10 games and see how well he plays before offering you a valuation?" right now, if a big club wanted him to answer their problems at the start of this season, he wouldn't leave us for less than £20m imo.
Frank to be Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 But your opinion is miles off the mark. That's your opinion and your welcome to it but my opinion is that you're wrong. Sterling has no attributes that aren't bettered by Mahrez. Dribbling, finishing, crossing, passing, you name it.
The Doctor Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Mahrez could dance around sterling while making a cup of tea and raheem would still never get a sniff of either the ball or the tea.

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Tying him up on that big contract is looking like a very good deal, his value has just shot up about £10 million. That's the value I would currently put on him and it may well increase, Some people are being unrealistic at this moment in time.
FireFox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Mahrez could dance around sterling while making a cup of tea and raheem would still never get a sniff of either the ball or the tea. But is it a ball, or is it the saucer for the cup? (I may or may not be comparing Mahrez to Pele.)
benpicko Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Albrighton and Mahrez on the bench Loved nige but he was a total nutter in his team selections They did both come back much better than before he benched them though. Albrighton returned after being pretty terrible to begin with to become a brilliant wing-back, at just the right time.
hackneyfox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 They did both come back much better than before he benched them though. Albrighton returned after being pretty terrible to begin with to become a brilliant wing-back, at just the right time. Albrighton wasn't pretty terrible to begin with, he wasn't great but showed enough for me to believe that he should have been playing regularly.
ImBlue Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 That's the value I would currently put on him and it may well increase, Some people are being unrealistic at this moment in time. Zaha was trading hands for £14m a few seasons ago for example, and we are being unrealistic to say Mahrez would be worth more?
Stevosevic Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Remember when Nige benched him for 2 months lols :--( Lols I'd forgotten about the 4-4-2 diamond days with Nugent upfront. Pathetic period of form, that WBA home game was an insult to football
ScouseFox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Lols I'd forgotten about the 4-4-2 diamond days with Nugent upfront. Pathetic period of form, that WBA home game was an insult to football when we played four centre mids that was my favourite month of the season
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Zaha was trading hands for £14m a few seasons ago for example, and we are being unrealistic to say Mahrez would be worth more? I'd say with the contract he's on, the fact that we don't need to sell and he offers skill, goals and more future potential - we could charge what we want. I wouldn't sell him, but I wouldn't be surprised if we were offered near £20m for him at some point. Showed against Sunderland that he is absolute class on his day. Be a fortune to find a replacement of his ability, and then there's wages

Dribbling, finishing, crossing, passing, you name it. Er, no I'd much prefer sterling. Mahrez is a huge talent but he has a way to go. I fully expect sterling to show why he cost 50m this year.
Benguin Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 They did both come back much better than before he benched them though. Albrighton returned after being pretty terrible to begin with to become a brilliant wing-back, at just the right time. Never understood this point, heard it a lot. Albrighton was good at the start and if he was in the team all year, I think we'd have been off the bottom a lot sooner.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Been watching Lyon v Lorient tonight. 0-0 and not a classic but it's interesting to watch players like Fekir after seeing Riyad's performance yesterday. There's no doubt about it: he's in that £15-20million and getting linked with Arsenal bracket now. He just has the beating of his opposite number so often which is gold dust at the top level. He'd be great for a top team purely because other sides would have to double up on him and the top teams would have world class players elsewhere to capitalise. I assumed while we were bottom last season that he would be a goner this summer so this season is a real bonus. If he keeps it up and we manage to keep hold of him past the two transfer deadlines then we're in for some real entertainment and it'll be interesting to see where he ends up. For now, though, the only way is down...
ScouseFox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 it really is sensational, and something like I've never seen before, the way he just evades opponents and challenges both running at pace and shimmy in in a stop start manner. it's unreal to watch at times. it's got to the point where he occasionally starts dribbling on the corner of our box and I'm not even massively concerned, something which as a leicester city fan I thought I'd never feel. he is sensational.

Or possibly Chelsea where he struggled defensively?

The best games are those when the other team push up and there's space down the right for him to run into. The second halves against Tottenham and Villa at home last season spring to mind, as well as the start of the second half yesterday. He has the pace to beat them down the outside but you know he just wants to cut inside most of the time and shoot or play a through ball to Vardy.

CosbehFox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Remember when Nige benched him for 2 months lols :--( The period at the start of the season where he didn't track back and left us open against the top sides? Or the period off the back of an African Nations Cup run? I felt Mahrez was one player who Pearson used very well last season. Criticism can be levelled at his non selection of Albrighton. Although he wasn't particularly good at the defensive side early doors and he was downright awful at Newcastle when he had his first start.
