Milan: Tell me why you sang for Allen

Recommended Posts

In a frank and emotional interview, the City owner and chairman said he was “confused and angry†at the chanting of former manager Martin Allen's name during the midweek Carling Cup win at Nottingham Forest.

And Mandaric today told the Mercury that he wanted those who sang for the former manager to attend a special meeting at the Walkers Stadium on Thursday.

Mandaric said: “It is not up to me to tell the fans what to sing.

“But do these people think, in all seriousness, that Martin Allen is a more important issue than the club they have supported for years?

“I don't. I don't understand why they sang it and I'm finding it hard to forget.â€

And he added: “Maybe now we need one of those €˜clear the air' family chats.

“So that's what I propose. If you're one of the fans who would rather sing for Martin Allen than Leicester City, come and see me.

“Please, come down to the Walkers Stadium at 7pm on Thursday and tell me why you sang it.

Mandaric added: “I'll meet you, face to face, and I'll listen to what you have to say.

“Then I'll tell you why I think you were wrong.

“For 45 minutes, maybe the Walkers Stadium will become the OK Corral on Thursday. I am prepared for that.â€

Im going to go. I want to reach the end of the MA chapter of leicester city, i want to know what MA did so wrong and i want us to move forward.

As far as i am concerned, i am finished with the whole matter. I sang for Allen at forest to show my frustration at his dismissal, but now it is done and i am behind Megson and tags. End of. Milan is taking this too far

MM seems to be over sensitive to any perceived criticism but at least he seems to want to make his points and feelings known ( even if the MA situation cannot be fully aired ) ,

fair play to him and lets hope this is the end of it

There is a confidentiality clause, Milan can not say a thing.

</exasperated voice>

You are not going to hear that:

  • Allen appointed staff without prior clearance or authorisation
  • Allen denigrated the young lads by saying they hadn't earned the right to be in the changing rooms (despite winning a small trophy last season)
  • Allen banned vital staff from the training ground (who have/need constant contact with the players during the working day)
  • Allen fell out with an "important" long-serving, non-playing member of staff
  • Allen bullied members of the playing staff leading to a strong sense of dissatisfaction
  • Allen caused three senior players to lead a revolt and demand transfers
  • Allen was rude to and unprofessional with staff
  • Allen was unprofessional in his dealings with third parties

You are not going to hear any of that because Milan can not tell it to you due to the legal restrictions placed on him.

Who demanded these confidentiality clauses to be placed into the contract between Allen and the club? Milan will not be able to answer that one either, he won't be able to tell you that it was Allen.

So don't go expecting to be told anything in detail. You won't be.

Milan will tell you that he has the best interests of the club at heart, that he made a mistake in appointing Allen and that he knew it was never going to work out successfully for City and so he had a clear choice: Wait until Allen cocked it up or cut out the cancerous cells and try to move on.

Milan will tell you that out of all the candidates for the job Megson was the best option in terms of ability and availability.

Milan will tell you that he believes Megson can replicate his success at WBA here.

Milan will tell you that unless people cheer for the club they will effect the players on the pitch, that unless we are all pulling in the same direction we will end up going nowhere.

But, of course, you don't need to go on Thursday to hear all of this (or not hear some of it) because it is plain simple common sense.

hardly, he's just trying to make the sad buggers who sang for allen realise that they were embarassing to the club and potentially making matters worse. consider any attendees at tis meeting as in voluntary detention.

good to hear you've got over this now, hopefully the rest will follow.

- nice to see a touch of cloughie in MM's comments...

That's an excellent summary by Daggers and apart from his first point has all been in the public domain for some time in the form of opinion.

Even the names of those who asked for a transfer were mentioned on TB.

However, even assuming that Daggers summary is entirely true, whic I'm happy to do based on what I've been told, that DOES NOT explain why MM appointed MA on a three year contract when his eccentricities were so well known and documented.

And the reason that is important is that credibility counts and if MM is honest perhaps he'll acknowledge that his record on hiring and firing probably restricted his choices where a new manager is concerned.

People talked in pre-season about us getting some quality signings and filling the stadium with the promise of a more positive side but very little seems to have been done in that direction.

We already have too big a squad with too many average players and I'd like to know first hand who's to blame for that. And why due diligence does not seem to have been applied before some of those payers were signed.

I didn't sing for Martin Allen any more than I would boo any of our team members during a game. But many, many questions still need answering.

Have you considered that maybe he was offered a shorter term contract but negotiated it to three years?

Three years hardly seems unreasonable, I can't see why you keep kicking up about it. :dunno:

Allen had baggage but the reality of how he adjusted to working at City was far worse than any previous behaviour. We weren't talking about simple eccentricity anymore, it became unacceptable behaviour that would have ended in disaster for the squad and the club.

If you have heard the same stories that I have over the last week Thracian, as you intimate you have, then you have to agree that sacking him was for the best.

As for appointing him, people make mistakes. I think that's something you're going to have to deal with.
