cambridgefox Posted 19 April 2015 Posted 19 April 2015 I used to virtually live in the Salisbury Arms 20 odd years back.Absolutely heaving and a fannyfest at weekends.Hidden gem in the backstreets.
Tommy G Posted 20 April 2015 Posted 20 April 2015 Burbage Main plus point is the fact it has 5 village pubs all within walking distance. Lidl is about 3 miles from my house and its brilliant Lidl>Aldi
Guest Posted 20 April 2015 Posted 20 April 2015 Soulac sur Mer, France. Small seaside town on the gironde peninsula next to the Bay of Biscay (Atlantic Ocean). Small population which swells hideously in the month of August. Most houses are very large holiday homes. Been around for over 200 years and was briefly popular when the railway connected it to Bordeaux. Miles of long sandy beaches, sea good for surfing and water sports. Temperature is a little too low in Jan and Feb and a little too high in August but Spring and Autumn are great. Nicely isolated as the mainland has no bridge but a large ferry operates 11km away at the mouth of the Estuary. Bordeaux is 50 miles away, nice city. inland its either marshland or vineyards. UNESCO Basilica in the town Incredible lighthouse in the ocean (Phare du Cordouan) Great place to live (except Tourist August) beaches are great for walking the dogs and contemplating the world.
Oasisedup Posted 20 April 2015 Posted 20 April 2015 Chelmsford. Moved here because the missus teaches in the Essex countryside, and I work in London. Nice parks, nice river and some nice pubs, but a bit drab. Jamie Oliver is from here and has opened an Italian restaurant in the town. The country's newest city, having been made such for the Queen's jubilee in 2012. Birthplace of the radio (the old Marconi factory can still be seen in the city).
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 April 2015 Posted 20 April 2015 If I get to stay here long enough I'll give my thoughts on Brighton. It is actually very suprisingly different to near enough anywhere I've been in the UK, actually feels foreign sometimes.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 20 April 2015 Posted 20 April 2015 My least favourite thing is the lack of Rachel Riley.

It actually has nothing to do with immigrants or a diverse population there are probably more white british % wise than most places I've been in the UK. The Green council, the layout, and the fact that are absloute abundance of weirdos down here is more of what I was getting at.

By the way it was 20° here (Soulac) at 10am this morning but the sea was only 13.5°. It's been a great week though sadly it's coincided with school holidays so the beach is relatively highly populated with kids, dogs and semi naked women.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 22 April 2015 Posted 22 April 2015 If you have never been to High Wycombe, then count your blessings!

Hey pal would also add the County Cricket Ground, decent shopping and a pretty nice place in general, good access to London.

Love your part of the world. We (17 of us) were in Royan at the end of July but stayed towards La Palmyre. My favourite beach is in Saint Palais sur mer,I always take my friends there and they all like it.The cote savauge is a different beast but still enjoyable.
Carl the Llama Posted 2 September 2015 Posted 2 September 2015 Brussels. You've already decided that you hate it for controlling your life and sucking away all your personal freedoms or that you love it for its great beers and weekend breaks so it's useless me adding anything more.
Webbo Posted 2 September 2015 Posted 2 September 2015 New Parks. We will leave it at that. My gran lived in Pinder Road for years. Nothing wrong with New Parks.

Buzzell Posted 2 September 2015 Posted 2 September 2015 My gran lived in Pinder Road for years. Nothing wrong with New Parks. I've lived here all my life, 28 years. I've never had a problem tbf but it is a bit of a shit hole. Plus since having becoming a Dad I've now decided that I would like to get out of the area because I'm not too keen on the schools here. My Grandad and late Grandma live/lived on Pindar road, Grandad still does. Wonder if your Gran ever knew them? My Grandad seemed to know everybody.

Vicki Vixen Posted 2 September 2015 Posted 2 September 2015 Motspur Park, just across the road from Fulham's training ground.
