SpacedX Posted 25 April 2015 Posted 25 April 2015 ....If going into today's game Nige had reinstated Shwarzer, opted four a back four of Konch, Simpson, Morgan and Moore...dropped Cambiasso and Albrighton and King, but retained James, with Schlupp back on LW et etc. Bewilderment?...outrage? We're achieving everything that we were primed to do and were capable of doing. The addition of Huth has been massive but we should never have ever been embroiled in a relegation battle and certainly shouldn't have been bottom for over five months of the season. What a difference intelligent an intelligent selection, tactical awareness and strategic substitutions make. If this positive management continues, but we fail to survive I will have no ill feeling towards NP going forward, but looking back - prior to April is a completely different matter. We will do this today.

We can't win a few games and then you come out of the woodwork and go 'see, if Pearson did this from the start we would never have been in such trouble'. That's extremely unrealistic. Some got flamed on here for suggesting last Saturday's line up. It was complete outrage when I suggested switching Marhez to the left to accommodate Albrighton. This is only a pointless post if you're in denial of the reasons that we got into this shit and what could have been. With the exception of Huth, and the loss of Kasper, we could have pretty much put this team out all season and been sitting mid table now.

Stroke of reasonably good fortune in our first seven/eight games gave fans some false hope and the underachievement labelled on us today. We are where we are supposed to be on paper, top of the bottom three clubs, fighting for survival

What if Van Gaal hadn't got injuries and been forced to play Rooney up top again......What if the Soldado at Spurs had been on fire this season, there'd have been no Harry Kane-mania.....blah blah, so on & so on And Pearson didn't drop Cambiasso he had a calf injury that took about 3-4 weeks to heal properly. It took him about two or three more games to get back in the starting line-up.

If you fail to see that our position owes to nothing other than poor management prior to April than you are the 'nutter'. Well I got much more of a flaming for suggest ing Shlupp at LB when he was being hailed as some genius on the left wing and Mahrez switched to the left to accommodate Albrighton. It wasn't meant to offend...jeeeesus, it's meant to acknowledge that we have had this potential all along, players haven't simply just suddenly found form or motivation...we didn't put out this shape or this attacking philosophy and we bewilderingly adhered to a containment game opting for and putting faith in a disastrous zonal defence. In simple terms then, reducing it to one game...what would the home result been against Hull had we have put out the team and system that we did last Saturday against Swansea? I realise that football is mutable and in continual flux and thereby governed by 'what if's' - but this season is replete with similar examples in which we failed to put out our strongest side and deploy positive tactics. If that notion offends then I genuinely apologise. If you're not left with the feeling of what could have been, then you are in complete denial of the unfortunate course that this season took. The turnaround in morale has been that pronounced and that remarkable that I can only salute NP, the fans of this club and the players. BUT Just as in my view, NP was entirely culpable for our position at the bottom of the table, he is entirely to be credited for engendering this turnaround and that in itself has been a joy to behold.

Stand by the fire extinguishers.
