martyn Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 A Garry Birtles favourite: Whenever a winger whips a ball in from a wide area between the Goalkeeper and defence, a striker should always be there to tap home, irrespective of the pattern of play or location of the strikers prior to the ball being whipped in. Usually associated with quotes of the type: "He's got every right there to ask why his strikers aren't busting a gut to get on the end of that" Also "He's got great feet for a big man", uttered towards any striker whose 2nd touch isn't usually a tackle.
AKCJ Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Ha ha. Who said this? I think Merson said it in preseason.
AKCJ Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Stuff like "hes got a wand of a left foot" that is said about every left footed footballer but never anyone with a right foot (Konchesky not included).
Haydos Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Stuff like "hes got a wand of a left foot" that is said about every left footed footballer but never anyone with a right foot (Konchesky not included). Is that different to a cultured left foot?
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Is that different to a cultured left foot? Or a howitzer of a left foot 'He can hit them' aka Hitzlsperger
SystonFox Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Unbelievable Jeff Magic 40 points Win your home games draw your away games Defoe Thursday's Harry Kane Thursday's Winning the f.a cup and being relegated isn't such a bad thing Andy Townsend / Don Goodman
AKCJ Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 <Any team that wins a lot of football games> are really boring. Barcelona, Chelsea, Bayern, Real Madrid, Man United and Leicester have been examples of that in the last decade.
AKCJ Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 "<Any team that plays in a complete shithole of a ground despite clear investment> have done really well given the lack of finances." Burnley, Watford, Bournemouth and QPR (when they first went up) for example. Also (and this is two in one) "<insert stadium that was built anytime prior to the 90s> always has a cracking atmosphere which makes it a tough place to go to". Usually Goodison, Anfield, Stamford Bride, Upton Park, Elland Road, The City Ground, Old Trafford... you know the type. "<insert shithole of a stadium> is a really tough place to go". **** off.
Renart Posted 12 May 2015 Author Posted 12 May 2015 'He knows where the goal is.' errr.... well, I hope so...as he is a footballer!
davieG Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Tim Sherwood's Aston Villa There are no easy games in this league ( Man City 6 - 0 QPR)
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Not strictly a commentary cliche but anybody on here who says 'lazy journalism' is a **** 9/10 times.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 I also aint keen on the way modern footballers / managers use the oddest tenses. "i've saw the ball and then I've gone to hit it and luckily for me it's gone in"
Corky Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 They'll be there or thereabouts- never actually specifies where exactly in the table, seems to cover 1st to 12th in most divisions.
AKCJ Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Clive Tyldesley on ITV just came out with a pearler. "They've got goals in them". Really Clive? I was wondering how Bayern got to the Semi Finals of the Champions League so thanks for clearing that up.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 You have always just got to aim to score more than the opposition, that is what matters... If you can't score you don't win football matches...
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 He's technically gifted. Always about Paul Gallagher
SystonFox Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 He's technically gifted. Always about Paul Gallagher Technically our best player ever I blame Wellens
ealingfox Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Starting to think shouting modern football cliches is a modern football cliche in itself - just because it's something someone has said once or more about football doesn't make it a cliche...
