Soar Fox Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Not a massive fan of roller coasters or theme parks. Stupid as it stands I've got more scared with the older I've got. As a kid I loved them nowadays I'm always thinking of the worse when queuing up.
ramboacdc Posted 2 June 2015 Author Posted 2 June 2015 Another picture here from the scene via Twitter user Kirsty Wild. Describing the accident she says "the cars were stationary and someone let them go to collide into empty cars. That's why I'm outraged!" Been a fan of #altontowers for 15 years but I am outraged about what's just happened. Two cars crashing on #smilerpic.twitter.com/UYhOdhSZv6

Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Thanks for coming That was almost a Rincewind post!
VLC86 Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 That was almost a Rincewind post! Deleting my account now.
AKCJ Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Been on it. Pretty good and but you can see why there's been so many errors.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Deleting my account now. No I was agreeing with you, was referring to Fox92's post. Doesn't add anything to the discussion!
J.Lisemore Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Yeah its a good ride in general but the amount of problems it has is stupid, not the best for comfort either, don't know about anyone else, but my shoulders seem to kill after coming off it
TheUltimateWinner Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Well shit my signature sucks. Ride is notorious for 'stalling' in that area, the ride system should have never allowed two cars to be on the same 'block' ie portion of the ride though. From what i've heard it's a mixture of poor design and human error. Seen a video and photos, really doesn't look good, one guy looks out cold, front four are described as having serious injuries, namely their legs. Imagine that happening to your legs.

Your feet are rested on that, on that section it would be around 20-30mph into a stationary object with that separating you. Video: (NSFW? Quite distressing)
Soar Fox Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 I can't tell what's happening at all in that video apart from "stop the facking ride"

VLC86 Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Sky news are interviewing a right cracker here. 'When it crashes it isn't as safe'
Lukey Boi Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Been on it too and same thing happened. Kept getting delayed due to some sort of issue.
J.Lisemore Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Do we think The Smiler will be closed down for good? Actually booked the 15th off work yesterday to visit haha, just my luck really. Won't be going on the ride anyway for obvious reasons.
Legend_in_blue Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Not been to Alton Towers since The Black Hole was running in its place instead. That had its fair share of problems too. Looks terrible on the news.
Wymsey Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Oblivion had made me on edge at the 'tipping point' - been on a few times and have though whether the carriage would get stuck.
Hollism Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Do we think The Smiler will be closed down for good? Actually booked the 15th off work yesterday to visit haha, just my luck really. Won't be going on the ride anyway for obvious reasons. I seriously doubt it. £18million is far too much money to piss away. I imagine the park won't reopen for a little while, and I wouldn't be surprised if The Smiler didn't reopen for the rest of the season. There's been far too much press for them to rush it back open.
RowlattsFox Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Injuries serious but not life threatening! how can you let a populated carriage go round with an empty carriage still on the track?
