J.Lisemore Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 I seriously doubt it. £18million is far too much money to piss away. I imagine the park won't reopen for a little while, and I wouldn't be surprised if The Smiler didn't reopen for the rest of the season. There's been far too much press for them to rush it back open. True, but I think the public will have lost confidence with this ride now to be honest.
VLC86 Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 True, but I think the public will have lost confidence with this ride now to be honest. Shorter queues for the rest of us, bonus!
Hollism Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 True, but I think the public will have lost confidence with this ride now to be honest. I know what you're saying. Merlin will have a lot of stressful meetings in the next few months, and decide if they will lose enough business by reopening it to be worth just knocking it down. I just can't see it happening though.
AKCJ Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 I imagine, judging on the rumours i've heard, that there are going to be 4 double leg amputees.
m4DD0gg Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 I imagine, judging on the rumours i've heard, that there are going to be 4 double leg amputees. Dam that is horrific.
VLC86 Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 I imagine, judging on the rumours i've heard, that there are going to be 4 double leg amputees. Thats terrible.
Wymsey Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 No surprise that Merlin Entertainment shares are down by nearly 4%.
J.Lisemore Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Shorter queues for the rest of us, bonus! With the possibility of a shorter life! I know what you're saying. Merlin will have a lot of stressful meetings in the next few months, and decide if they will lose enough business by reopening it to be worth just knocking it down. I just can't see it happening though. I think it'll be exactly that, they'll lose so much business that it just won't be worth running anymore. What this ride has needed is a long period of time without a problem, and since its been built in 2013, there has been 7.
BoneDog Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Awful news. I didn't think they had these kind of issues nowadays. Thought the technology and engineering was advanced enough to prevent accidents.
jonthefox Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 I was there on saturday. They had ' technical problems ' then.
RowlattsFox Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 I imagine, judging on the rumours i've heard, that there are going to be 4 double leg amputees. Shit, all kids as well! Hope you've heard wrong.
Hollism Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 We get BBC West Mids for some reason and they've reported on it quite heavily, obviously. They just confirmed that there are some still stuck on there... FIVE hours after the crash. That's awful on it's own. Really hope they're all okay.
ADK Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Really isn't good enough in this day for something like this to happen.
Fox92 Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Stupid as it stands I've got more scared with the older I've got. As a kid I loved them nowadays I'm always thinking of the worse when queuing up. I'm like this. I've developed a massive fear of flying too as ive got older Same. I think most are the same too. Probably because it seems more carefree as a child.
Fox92 Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 No I was agreeing with you, was referring to Fox92's post. Doesn't add anything to the discussion! So. I could quote plenty on here that "doesn't bring anything to a thread".
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 So. I could quote plenty on here that "doesn't bring anything to a thread". That's fair enough, just thought it was odd. Just imagine if everyone posted a reply saying "No I'm not really into rollercoasters either" For the record I love rollercoasters but I despise queues, so I rarely visit themed parks. Had actually recently thought of going to Alton Towers soon as I haven't ridden Smiler or Rita yet... Funnily enough I'm not actually in any rush now Hope the injured are recovering, and that there isn't the need for amputations (though it looks likely). Quite incredible in this day and age that something like this can happen, surely there are automated systems in place that can halt the carriages if something unexpected occurs?
ousefox Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 I don't get theme parks. Just don't get any thrill from it at all. Mate tok me to flamingo land and I just felt bored and sick after eating a lot at lunch.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 They are going to get sued to buggery, and rightly so.
yorkie1999 Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Injuries serious but not life threatening! how can you let a populated carriage go round with an empty carriage still on the track? I think the problem is at the end of the run where an empty carriage can roll back into a dip.
ramboacdc Posted 2 June 2015 Author Posted 2 June 2015 I seriously doubt it. £18million is far too much money to piss away. I imagine the park won't reopen for a little while, and I wouldn't be surprised if The Smiler didn't reopen for the rest of the season. There's been far too much press for them to rush it back open. the park is open tomorrow but the x sector isnt. so where the smiler and oblivion are.
ramboacdc Posted 2 June 2015 Author Posted 2 June 2015 I think the problem is at the end of the run where an empty carriage can roll back into a dip. it wasnt even that. the empty carriage didn't make it round a loop and rolled back. they released both at the same time and when the empty one came rolling back and the populated one came forward. boom. i haven't seen anything about amputations but if the set up is like oblivion where you can stick your legs out infront. well i think we all know what happens to your legs when you shunt them at 50mph. Ive saw that pic now of the kid with the blood all over his face and that made no sense to me as his face couldn't have hit anything and it looks like its coming from a bust nose. then it hit me its come from his legs. also seems strange some papers are blurring their faces and others aint.
Wymsey Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 Park is shut tomorrow according to Sky, must be very bad. Good idea, as probably consumer confidence will be understandably low.
Hollism Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 the park is open tomorrow but the x sector isnt. so where the smiler and oblivion are. Closed tomorrow but I did think they'd keep closed for most of the week at the very least.
SystonFox Posted 2 June 2015 Posted 2 June 2015 If anyone is having anything amputated that's it close the park now. Put a price on a persons legs. ****
