Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Shouldn't a good advanced midfielder in a top ten side being getting 8 to 10 goals? Look at the players who play for top ten sides and see, Nugent doesn't play for a top 10 side.
dogadug Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Shouldn't a good advanced midfielder in a top ten side being getting 8 to 10 goals? Nugent has more goals than Di Maria and Ozil. If you're judging advanced midfielders on goals then Nugent > Di Maria & Ozil.
hackneyfox Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Look at the players who play for top ten sides and see, Nugent doesn't play for a top 10 side.Top wants us top 10 next season so Nugent could be struggling to score goals in one next season.
Swiper Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Nuge is falling down the pecking order but still important to the squad. Ok he's never going to bag 20 goals a season in the prem but he creates quite a lot and weighs in with quite a few assists and key passes. I think though this will be his last season for us as I doubt his contract will be renewed so they may opt to let him go for a fee this summer to help him get a contract elsewhere with a few years on it. However, he will probably still get himself a contract at the end of next season with a half decent 2nd tier club for a couple of years as i'm sure he will get snapped up when available on a free. Honestly, and keep in mind I'm saying this as an American: I would love to see him come to MLS either after this coming season, or perhaps if he comes out with a vengeance this year and gets another year added to his contract, the season after. He could do really well for himself over here. I think the fans would like him due to his pace and workrate. It would also be a new experience for him as opposed to going back to a 2nd tier English squad. It could be an attractive option to him as well given that some of the top stars like Ronaldo and Pirlo have spoken about coming over here in a few years. They'd all be mid to late 30's. If he came at 31-32, he could be a great addition to a squad here. I mean... Kevin Doyle got himself a nice contract, so Nugent certainly could too. Now that Darren Eales from Spurs has taken over the future Atlanta team, I'd think some more English players might be headed this way once their time in the Prem is up. Nugent would be a good one.
Fox Ulike Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Shouldn't a good advanced midfielder in a top ten side being getting 8 to 10 goals? So if he gets gets 8 then he’s ‘good’. What happens if he only gets 7. Is he ‘not good’? No that’s clearly nonsense. A player’s worth to a team can't be quantified by a number. This isn’t darts.
Fox Ulike Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Top wants us top 10 next season so Nugent could be struggling to score goals in one next season. So now Nugent's being criticised for not scoring enough goals next season??
Swiper Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 So if he gets gets 8 then he’s ‘good’. What happens if he only gets 7. Is he ‘not good’? No that’s clearly nonsense. A player’s worth to a team can't be quantified by a number. This isn’t darts. Given his end-of-season form, if he hadn't gotten hurt I think 7-8 goals would have been very realistic. But then everyone would be on him for not scoring 10-12.
hackneyfox Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 So now Nugent's being criticised for not scoring enough goals next season?? Yep, daft I know but I just don't think he will score enough goals or have enough assists for where I'm hoping we will be.I'm assuming NFP feels the same hence only a 2 year contact rather than the 3 that many others got.

Guest Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 In the current squad yes but in the one for next season? He suffered from injury and hardly played last season. To me he would be a gamble for this season I guess you only followed Leicester for the glorious run-in.
Fox Ulike Posted 10 June 2015 Posted 10 June 2015 If that was the case why do stats mean so much in football? Sports science is all about numbers as well. Stats and numbers, yes. But you're not looking at Nugent's stats, you're looking at Nugent's single stat (goals), and declaring that by that single number he's unworthy of his place in the 25 man squad, and ignoring everything else that he brings to the team when he plays. Shouldn't a good advanced midfielder in a top ten side being getting 8 to 10 goals? If it was as easy as that then we wouldn't even need a manager but would just pick the players who scored the most goals!
Ollie93 Posted 10 June 2015 Posted 10 June 2015 Shouldn't a good advanced midfielder in a top ten side being getting 8 to 10 goals? Name one from last season who did this for a lesser Premier League team?
iancognito Posted 10 June 2015 Posted 10 June 2015 In the current squad yes but in the one for next season? He suffered from injury and hardly played last season. To me he would be a gamble for this season Only Cambiasso, Schlupp, Morgan and Vardy made more appearances than him last season and after Ulloa's 13 goals, him Vardy & Cambiasso scored most with 5 each. The only major injury was the one he got in April which came just as him and Vardy hit their best form, without that his stats would have been even better.
hackneyfox Posted 10 June 2015 Posted 10 June 2015 Name one from last season who did this for a lesser Premier League team? What do lesser teams have to do with it.My point was that Top wants us top 10 next season and I don't believe Nugent is good enough for that level. Don't think that NFP thinks he is either otherwise he'd have been offered a 3 year contract.

SemperEadem Posted 6 August 2015 Posted 6 August 2015 Some talk up here in Sheffield that Wednesday are in advanced duscussions to sign him.
Simmo86 Posted 6 August 2015 Posted 6 August 2015 Some talk up here in Sheffield that Wednesday are in advanced duscussions to sign him. FB bullshit I think. His Mrs has said its bollocks.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 6 August 2015 Posted 6 August 2015 I would be sad if we let go of Nuge, I love his work rate for us, he scores some blinding goals too. He just seems such a good character to have around the squad.
dbtcity Posted 7 August 2015 Posted 7 August 2015 Seems like something is going on... his misses has just posted a status saying angry dosent even come close... I said I hope it's not nuge related and she favourited it.. I said take that as a yes and she also favourited it.... the ranieri clear out begins I guess
Bert Posted 7 August 2015 Posted 7 August 2015 Rumours and I repeat, rumours are that Nuge has been told he's surplus to requirements.
Rusko187 Posted 7 August 2015 Posted 7 August 2015 Rumours and I repeat, rumours are that Nuge has been told he's surplus to requirements. That would be annoying, I love Nugget!
Stevosevic Posted 7 August 2015 Posted 7 August 2015 That's a shame but surely everyone thinks his opportunities are limited? Vardy's Mrs popping up with a "wow" in response to her tweet.
Molly Posted 7 August 2015 Posted 7 August 2015 I think he has a role to play for us this season. If he wanted to leave I wouldn't be sore because he's been a true gent and a wonderful player for us. Hope he stays.
