davieG Posted 2 June 2017 Posted 2 June 2017 There's nothing wrong with a few thousand empty seats if you've upped the overall attendance as it provides opportunities for those fans who can't make every game, touristy casuals and more importantly it does away with the need for the awful membership scheme.

DavieG yes I agree.

It's been proven at Watford that it isn't so I don't see why they're expanding. Forest and Cov don't fill their grounds but the answer for them isn't an expansion is it.

Lets use our own example, nobody thought we needed 32,000 at the time but we fill it and have people begging for tickets now. You have to be reasonably successful on the pitch, but that extra room has brought in a lot of fans for us that rarely went to filbo. We rarely got 20,000 in the championship. Mostly I seem to remember going down with about 13,000 people there, not you wouldn't expect less than 21/22 thousand for a crap game.

That's the sort of price I assume we will be looking at. No chance, be more like Cardiffs which was £12.5m. Might be more than that depending on design, but it's not going to be anything like £75m.

Voll Blau Posted 2 June 2017 Posted 2 June 2017 1 hour ago, AmarteyAndChill said: How many seats were added to their stadium? Cost isn't just to do with the increase in capacity. They'll have had all sorts of architectural issues to overcome at an old build like Anfield with varying sizes of stand either side and houses behind it, that they won't have had at a new bowl built in Cardiff which was designed with expansion in mind.
Babylon Posted 2 June 2017 Posted 2 June 2017 1 hour ago, AmarteyAndChill said: How many seats were added to their stadium? 5,500 I think. You could be looking at anything from £15m-£25m I'd imagine. The red bit is the new part.

Clever Fox Posted 2 June 2017 Posted 2 June 2017 I hope we can come up with something better than that it looks quite ugly. But yes we need to enlarge the Ground there's too many Fans not able to get into games and that not right.

I would imagine so, depends of costs of doing another stand at another time, how long it takes etc etc. I suppose ideally you'd do it all in one go if feasible and do east stand and the Kop.

Not sure, they built most of the stand behind the old stand, then did the finishing touches (taking off the old roof, putting on the new roof and finishing off over the summer to cause minimum disruption. You can see timeline pics here. http://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/article/gallery-ninian-stand-from-the-ground-up-1689669.aspx Their design is crap, so I'd hope we put a bit more cash into it. But it gives you an idea of how it would probably be done.

Probably make sense to create a waiting list first for season tickets, to see how big the demand is before we think about how many seats we will add.
CockneyFox Posted 2 June 2017 Posted 2 June 2017 Cardiff's was done on the absolute cheap and with minimal disruption - don't think they switched any home games at all. As mentioned above it was built almost as a separate structure behind the existing stand and the roof taken off at the last minute. And quite frankly it shows! It would be good if they could extend the family stand along with the east - they could make the externals look really impressive as you approach the stadium from Raw Dykes Road (which would be almost entirely hidden in comparison if they extended the kop side of the stadium) and, crucially, they could keep the kop as-is and retain much of the atmosphere generated with the lower / existing roof line.

SemperEadem Posted 2 June 2017 Posted 2 June 2017 If they do expand I would be surprised if they did it on the Kop. Much more likely in my eyes to do on either the East or West stands where they can make money off the prawn sandwich and corporate folk.

DatfoxesKid23 Posted 2 June 2017 Posted 2 June 2017 I think that building an expansion where the Kop is would be a good idea but as long as we have the finances we don't need a season where we can't spend a penny on transfers like Tottenham and we cannot do what Cardiff did to their stadium and made it look ugly. The expansion has to go with the rest of the stadium or we could make a whole upper level to the stadium provided we have the money
DatfoxesKid23 Posted 2 June 2017 Posted 2 June 2017 someone make a new poll I'd be interested to know now that we have done 3 years premier league football

Ashley Posted 2 June 2017 Posted 2 June 2017 Isn't the majority of the Kop being held up by mdf boards?
