Gerard Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 As a Chelsea fan, I could give you a bit Chelsea perspective on Romeu (and Ake, if you want, but i'll stick to Romeu in this post). For starters, I don't think he could be a direct replacement for Cambiasso, neither in quality or positioning/role. Cambiasso's Leicester form (never mind his Inter days) is several notches above anything Romeu has ever shown, so keep that in mind. Also, Romeu is almost exclusively a defensive midfielder, but he does possess a very good passing range, which you'd except comes naturally to someone who grew up in Barcelona's academy. He has unlucky, in the sense that he suffered a serious ACL injury just as he was starting to progress as a player make a name for himself at Chelsea. AVB clearly preferred to play Romeu with Lampard rather than Mikel and Meireles. Our overabundance of non-homegrown players isn't helping Romeu's chances unfortunately - just like it isn't helping his fellow serious knee-injury victim Marco van Ginkel, now on loan at Stoke - but Romeu had once (almost) proven himself to be a capable presence in the our midfield. While Nemanja Matic isn't likely to be displaced anytime soon, Romeu could conceivably push somebody like Mikel for playing time (again) and help resurrect some of the fun debates Chelsea fans had back in the AVB days about those two, though perhaps not, as that would probably signal the end of Mikel's time with us. He now also has the poster boy of our academy Loftus-Cheek to contend with, who Chelsea have spent a lot of time talking about and who I think will be ahead of the likes of Mikel and Ramires in the pecking order this season. You never know with Mourinho when it comes to youth though, so we'll have to wait and see on that front. Chelsea fans mostly want to sell Romeu as, realistically, he isn't breaking into our first team any time soon and he isn't likely to suddenly become a £20m asset worth hanging on to, and a mid-table PL player is where his level is at for now. He has the potential to turn into a very good player, so I think Leicester would do well to turn this loan deal into a permanent one. I'd be pissed off if we paid Chelsea anything more than he cost you which was about £4,000,000. Although Chelsea have the great ability of buying a player and him not making the grade at Chelsea and still sell that player for a healthy profit. It must be great to live in a world when you buy players who are eventually found out not to be good enough and still make a profit on your failures.
Guest bss9401 Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 God forbid getting a bag of crap from Chelsea reserves. It'll end up just the same as when we got that useless Izzet bloke who we took on loan from them a few years back.
ktfox59 Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Don't get all the anti loan deal nonsense in here as they are good for teams like us to get players who may not necessarily join us permanently and also protect us from some risk. Loan with view to a permanent move would be the best option as if he turns out no good, we just send him back and lose out on wages and loan fee and if he turns out good, we have first option at the pre-agreed price. Buying however, yes he may turn out to be amazing and quadruple in value in 12-months but there is just as much, if not more, chance he turns out very average, we go down and are then left with a player on a long contract and will also be on very big wages considering where he's been before. I don't think we'll go down this year but we still have to be mindful that it is a possibility as we don't want to have to return to the dark days of admin and only being able to sign players willing to play for free! have i missed something? Make this loan permenant? Have we done it yet?
jayfox26 Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 A midfield of Romeu/Ake with King/Mendy is not worth thinking about, no forward drive in there whatsoever. Depends what system Ranieri wants. He may want 2 defensive minded mids to play so the likes of Mahrez and schlupp can bomb forward.
kam6 Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 I remember watching him when he first joined Chelsea and I thought this guy is good!! Had a bag of potential and thought he would turn into a starter for years to come. A loan deal would work out great for us, just like others posted, pre agree a fee and hope for the best. The guy is only 23? Plenty of mileage in that engine left
Danno Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Always rated him ever since when I first heard of him. Which was roughly about 2 hours ago.
Hack Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 Why do the negative mob on here assume every article written about players we could be interested in, and I repeat could/possible or just bull Sh@t, is Gospel and then slate the team and the Manger as if these deals have happened. Seriously. Calm down. And by the way, some these guys mentioned in the press with no Source referred to are actually pretty good footballers. So first over reaction to media gossip and then no knowledge at all about the players being mentioned guarantee's stupid opinions.
Clever Fox Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 Some people on here have short memories, Weren't we happy to sign Huth on loan last season and he didn't do too bad for us. The club should agree a sale price first that way if the player does well we won't get screwed on price.
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 Out of all the players we are linked with this is the one I truly hope happens. Would be the next level signing.
nixdas Posted 21 July 2015 Posted 21 July 2015 Leicester City have reportedly enquired over the loan availability of Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu. Romeu joined the Premier League champions from Barcelona in 2011, but has yet to play under Jose Mourinho, having spent the last two seasons with Valencia and Stuttgart respectively. He does not appear to have much of a future at the Blues, and the Daily Mail suggests that Leicester, now managed by former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri, will offer him a new home. Romeu is keen to establish himself at a club and the Foxes, looking for a new defensive midfielder after the departure of Estebian Cambiasso, will look to make the deal permanent next summer. The 23-year-old signed a new contract at Chelsea before last season, but the emergence of Ruben Loftus-Cheek has seen him fall further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. Romeu has made 33 appearances for the Blues in all competitions. He featured 27 times in the Bundesliga for Stuttgart last term and played 13 times for Valencia the year before that. http://www.fanatix.com/news/former-chelsea-boss-to-return-to-stamford-bridge-to-sign-forgotten-midfielder/693154/
BlueTillIDie Posted 21 July 2015 Posted 21 July 2015 Possibly a decent addition to the squad, but think he had a lengthy lay off with injury a couple of years ago and was not the same player when returned. Just hope this isn't the start of a "Sven Style" big name singings rolling in, but we will see.
Gerard Posted 22 July 2015 Posted 22 July 2015 If we have him on loan then I hope we agree a fixed fee that we have an option to buy at.
Finn Claw II Posted 22 July 2015 Posted 22 July 2015 He needs game time if the quote about 'wanting to establish himself' is true. Wages not a concern if this is true. http://www.thesportbible.com/articles/chelsea-s-player-wages-are-outrageous
artursteppe Posted 22 July 2015 Posted 22 July 2015 As has been said, the guy has had injuries - that is why we are probably looking at loan with a view to purchase, just in case he is injury prone.
Wymsey Posted 22 July 2015 Posted 22 July 2015 How many players are Chelsea allowed to loan out? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33582958 The player above is the SEVENTH player to be loaned out by them...

chicagofox Posted 22 July 2015 Posted 22 July 2015 How many players are Chelsea allowed to loan out? As many as they want.
FireFox Posted 25 July 2015 Posted 25 July 2015 This seems to have gone quiet... Surely a good sign? Don't see anyone else interested, and he hasn't said he doesn't want to come here.
FireFox Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 Not given a squad number... Played (and scored) for Chelsea U21s in a friendly... Just sign this guy up, he'll probably do well enough for us.
Nick Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 I would think the Romeu and Ake options are the last thing to pull out of the hat if when 10.30pm comes on TDD and our bids and negotiations have fallen through.
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 I want Romeu on loan. Kante, Romeu & Dembele would be really nice.
psychonaut Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 I want Romeu on loan. Kante, Romeu & Dembele would be really nice. I dont think any of those 3 are a replacement for Cambiasso which is what Ranieri has stated he is looking for in the sense that he wants high level experience and a leader. Certainly not Romeu or Kante.
