North East Fox Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 Ranieri 7 - great start for him, at half-time was convinced we'd shut up shop with him being Italian so bit disappointed with goals we conceded Kasper 6 - at fault for 2nd goal but played a massive part in 1st 5 mins Most of the defence I've given 6's (think that may even be a bit harsh as in reality Sunderland didn't do a lot but we still conceded twice) Albrighton 8 / Schlupp 7 - both excellent but Albrighton affected the game more hence the higher score Drinkwater 8 - never let the team down today, always there and always doing things well King 7 - see above but not quite as good Mahrez 9 - terrorised Sunderland to day, if he got a hatrick would have been a 10 Vardy 7 / Shinji 8 - see Albrighton / Schlupp comments, was underwhelmed with signing Shinji but hopefully he can carry on as today Subs - all 5's as just did what they needed to do Opposition 3 - Have to say Sunderland were dire today. Kaboul has always been rubbish so was happy they signed him. Also not impressed with there new man in midfield, can't remember his name but thought he was very poor today. Also officials (4) were crap today, for both sides. Albrighton goal for me should be flagged for offside, Pantillimon possible sending off, Rodwell lucky to escape second booking (he looked straight up after taking Shinji down - got nowhere near the ball) and some other strange decisions which I can't remember at the minute. All in all though, great day - looking forward to MOTD and next Saturday!! Up the blues!!
FireFox Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 Anyone who doesn't give Albrighton and Mahrez 9s or 10s are blind.
Molly Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 Surely a 100% approval rating for the manager. Hard to decide who was the MOTM Drinky was close but Vardy was better and Shiniji and Mahrez and Albrighton stood out above those. What a wonderful problem.
kingfox Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 9 for Albrighton & Mahrez 8 for Drinkwater, Okazaki & Vardy Rest a mixture.
eastendfox Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 6s for Schmeichel, and the defence (De Laet, Morgan, Huth, Schlupp), generally ok but a bit worrying at times 7s for King and Drinkwater, some great passing but didn't always give full cover to the backline 8s Albrighton, Mahrez, Vardy who terrorised the Sunderland backline all game. I also thought Albrighton's goal was offside Okazaki 9 and Man of the Match for me, like the duracell bunny he just kept going and never gave their backline a moment's rest, also surprisingly good at holding the play up Subs a 6 for doing what they needed, liked particularly the look of Kante Ref was mostly ok though looked to be a couple of really bad calls in there Sunderland were desperate at the back. But it's only one game
Guest ttfn Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 Schmeichel 4.5 - I'd have to see the second goal again but he didn't look to cover himself in glory. Also some flapping later on. Distribution good. De Laet 6 - did fine Morgan 6 - largely untroubled Huth 4.5 - untroubled for the most part but worryingly looked like he was attempting an unconvincing Sol Bamba tribute act in the second half. Schlupp 7.5 - Grew about 1/8 of an inch to avoid another Jeff Left Back Disaster moment in the second half with a floated ball over the top. Otherwise more of the Jeff we know and love. Moments of wonderfully effective physicality mixed with brain-farts. The former certainly outweighed the latter today. Albrighton 9 - bloody excellent. 2 assists and a goal and it could have been more if assorted others had brought their shooting boots Drinkwater 8.5 - best game for us in the Prem and possibly best game for us full stop. King 8 - brilliant energy and hassling. Should have scored. Mahrez 9.5 - outrageous performance. Okazaki 8.5 - absolutely love this guy Vardy 8 - probably should have had about 4 today but worked tirelessly. Absolutely integral to our team. Subs all n/a Ranieri 9 - absolutely smashed it. 4-4-2 surprised Sunderland and rendered Cattermole (even more) pointless. Sunderland 2 - woeful - as bad as Newcastle last season. A 2 goal margin of defeat truly flattered them. Should have been 5 or 6. Ref 3 - Crap for both teams - Albrighton was offside for his goal, Rodwell and Pantilimon should have been sent off and the advantage he played for us in the first half was absurdly long.
foxinsox Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 Kasper and the defence 6's Drinkwater and King 7 Albrighton and Mahrez 8 Vardy 7 Shinji 8 Sunderland 4, 2 for the first half! Subs: Fuchs and Kante 7, Ben 6 It was a slaughter, but the goals were given away too easily, even allowing for the sun in Kaspers eyes. Defence clearly needs work Formation was interesting. Seemed to start 442 but with the fullbacks in attacking positions. When Kante came on seemed to move more to a central diamond with DD playing just in front of the centrebacks. New signings look good, particularly impressed by Shinji and Fuchs. The team looks stronger in every area than this time last year (note Cambiasso did not arrive until the end of August as I recall). I counted a bench worth nearly £30 million. Mahrez looks better than Stirling, but does need to learn to be a bit less selfish. He did not want to be subbed and went for the hatrick when other players were in a better position. Deservedly MOTM, but needs careful man management. Shinji is great, Heads well for a short guy and gung ho attitude will make him a fans favourite.
UPinCarolina Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 6s for Schmeichel, and the defence (De Laet, Morgan, Huth, Schlupp), generally ok but a bit worrying at times 7s for King and Drinkwater, some great passing but didn't always give full cover to the backline 8s Albrighton, Mahrez, Vardy who terrorised the Sunderland backline all game. But it's only one game What does a guy have to do to get a 10 then?
Edingleyfox Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 Mahrez best performance in City shirt 10 Okazaki 8.5 Albrighton / Vardy all 8 Really impressed with Okazaki who controlled centre of park and dangerous going forward looks a great buy and very versatile Defensively bit shaky at start and early in second half Other new players looked promising late on particularly Kante
Chapman66 Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 Anyone who doesn't give Albrighton and Mahrez 9s or 10s are blind. Agree 100%
Big_Nige Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 Drinkwater was superb. MOTM Mahrez This. Drinky bossed it. Mahrez was sensational
ScouseFox Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 Kasper 7 - a solid first half a mixture second Jeff 7 - the absolute pinnacle of Jeff today. when kasper pinged a first time 50 yard pass onto his toe and he let it go through his legs I knew football was back. legend. Morgan 7 Huuuuuuf 7 RDL 7 - shoutout to Richie he was sick glad he's back Mahrez 11 - best. player. ever. Drinks 8 - drinky of old King 8 - allowed drinky to be the drinky of old Albrighton 9 - dat delivery ooooi oiiiii Okazaki 100 - heroic Vardy 8 - great goal should've had a hat trick ran his ball bag off
The Doctor Posted 8 August 2015 Posted 8 August 2015 Schmeichel - 6 - three good saves in the first 8 or so minutes while we were settling, but made a hash of their second and seemed a bit flappy in a similar situation just after De Laet - 6 - Steady if dull Morgan - 6 - Ok, perhaps lucky not to go with the tangle with Fletcher Huth - 6 - Seemed a bit ponderous at points Albrighton - 8 - Stunning, great delivery and can't ask for much more than 2 assists and a goal. Goal was offside, but I still think that was a penalty to start with, Matthews dragged him down before it broke to Schlupp, so it's evened itself out Schlupp - 7 - powerful as always, and still capable of going from the sublime to the stupid in 2 seconds flat Drinkwater - 8 - the Drinkwater of 13/14, pinged it around brilliantly King - 7 - solid if a bit quiet Mahrez - 9 - one of the best performances I've seen, tricky and masses of flair. Vardy - 8 - Tenacious, good goal and gave them plenty of headaches. I'd have him and Albrighton in the next england squad if I were Hodgson Okazaki - 9 - I already love him, he's a right little pest. Good in the air, well suited to the fast pressing play, just a shame he couldn't notch a goal Subs: all 6, job was done but they looked pretty steady Sunderland: 1 - their goals were our mistakes more than good play, their defence was daft - I'd have them for relegation definitely Ref: 2 - Pantillimon and Rodwell should both have had reds, Jones, Coates and Morgan there's strong claims for reds as well; bottle job for both sides to finish with 11.
CheshireFox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Tbh I thought albrightons goal was onside; ok he was off in the buildup but then was in an onside position when the ball deflected off the Sunderland player for him to hit it...
Thracian Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Schmeichel 5.5 He did make some important saves but generally seemed as uncertain as some of the defending around him and his distribution was way below his best. De Laet 6 His speed was important at times and he was well involved. Morgan 6 As mentioned elsewhere he might have been sent off and his game a bit nebulous. Huth 6. Not his best for all that I rate him so highly. Although one highlight for me was the way he raced back with Defoe and showed a turn of speed I'd not expected. Albrighton 10 Excellent. And so effective. Hard to imagine a more telling contribution and seemed so professional in everything he did. Complimented so much going on around him. Schlupp 7. Ran himself to a near standstill but still needs to work on his end product. Drinkwater 8.5. So confident and constructive - let's hope he can keep it up. Benefitted from having so much willing and intelligent movement around him and the understanding/comeraderie that is so obvious within the side. King 7.5. Missed a wonderful chance to open his scoring account for the season but still played a quietly influential role for all that others were catching the eye with their brilliance. Mahrez 10. He even twisted my eyes inside-out on occasions. The lad was magical and an inspiration to everyone around him. End product and entertainment value on top. Looked so happy and committed - as well he might with the contract he's landed. Vardy 10. Set an example for everyone. What a bloke to have in the trenches. Gave his opponent's nightmares and if he'd scored another goal after running past his marker with sheer willpower and bravery it would have been a moment to savour. His dinked shot was the right choice but he just left himself too little space to work with. Okazaki 10 To come into a new team and play like that was extraordinary. Fagin would have loved the guy he was such a tenacious pickpocket. And brave too. A little man with a massive heart and determination in abundance. Fitted the team like a plug to a socket. Subs: Kante was the most impressive. Another who looked likely to clock up more miles for the cause than my old Peugeot. My life do we have some energy in the side and he'll only add to it.
Guest Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Ranieri 7 - Didnt like the formation change but cant argue with a 2 goal victory. Kasper 6 - Solid saves but looked very shaky at times. His distribution was poor also. De Laet 6 - Nothing brilliant nor poor. Huth 6 - Ok on the whole but feel he could possibly have made a better effort for the 2nd Sunderland goal. Was very easily beaten by Fletcher. Morgan 6 - Solid also on whole - possibly got away with one when ref didnt give a foul on edge of area in second half. Schlupp 6 - Mixed. Some flashes of quality but played Defoe onside so probably cost us the 1st Sunderland goal. Albrighton 9 - Superb outing as usual. Excellent crossing on the whole. 2 assists and a goal. Top notch. Drinkwater 7 - Best performance I've seen from him since the end of the last Championship campaign. Very tidy. King 6 - Solid and unspectacular outing. Missed a sitter. Mahrez 9 MOM - Terrorized Sunderland. 2 goals and possibly may have had more. Bit of greed once he'd got 2 goals I thought but I'll let our joint match winner off. Okazaki 7 - Impressive debut. Never gave up on anything. Must be a nightmare to defend against. Vardy 7 - Scored a goal and ran himself into the ground. Missed some good chances but no striker takes everything. Not gonna rate the subs. Stay or Go: Stay obviously.
Molly Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 We do seem to forget that at prem level most defensive mistakes seem to get punished yet we expect our strikers to put away all their chances. I'm not having a go at the strikers but feel the marks are always going to be lower for defenders.
Claridge Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 6s for Schmeichel, and the defence (De Laet, Morgan, Huth, Schlupp), generally ok but a bit worrying at times 7s for King and Drinkwater, some great passing but didn't always give full cover to the backline 8s Albrighton, Mahrez, Vardy who terrorised the Sunderland backline all game. But it's only one game[/quote Thought we were pretty desperate at the back
Corky Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Schmeichel- 6 (Couple of poor moments, couple of good ones) De Laet- 6 (Got forward well but at other times didn't look too convincing) Morgan- 7 (Generally, a strong display against two different strikers) Huth- 6 (Probably his poorest display for us but not to worry too much) Schlupp- 7 (Still inconsistent, clearly a better wing-back but good enough) Albrighton- 9 (Excellent. Positive runs, threatening crosses, neat finish) Drinkwater- 9 (Drinky of 2013/14, dictated play and made things tick) King- 8 (Continues to get better with better team-mates. Gets stuck in a lot as well) Mahrez- 10 (Joyous. Two goals, won a penalty with his skills, box of tricks, they couldn't handle him) Vardy- 9 (Typical Vardy really. Nightmare for the opposition, clever goal, non-stop enthusiasm) Okazaki- 9 (Cracking debut, fearless player, bundle of energy but with a touch and link-up play to match. Will be a cult hero, just needs a goal)
NewquayFox Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Vardy & Okazaki were fantastic yesterday, add to that the the magic of Mahrez and the graft of Albrighton (until he got booted just before half Time) we would give most defences a tough game, Drinky & King worked well but seemed to tire 2nd half, prefer Schlupp as a wing back to a back 3 and De Laet was a bit ropey, Huth & Wes might struggle against top class strikers, happy with the subs and they all settled in quickly.... Up the City....
Rasmic123 Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Schmeichel - 6 - shaky and looks like he could be a weak point this season De Laet - 7 - solid Huth - 7 solid Morgan - 6 less solid Schlupp - 6 at fault for the first goal but attacked well in the 2nd half Mahrez - 9.5 best i've seen him play, gonna be a big season for him. need to see if he can produce that kind of level more consistently than last season Drinkwater - 9 back to his best, pinging the ball about brilliantly and controlled the game very well from midfield. King - 6 pretty anonymous throughout, kante looked better when he came on Albrighton - 9 - 2 assists and a goal, if we can start putting away some more of his deliveries we will have a very good season Vardy - 8 - started excellently and one of the best players in the first half. Ran himself into the ground and understandably was a bit les effective in the 2nd half Okazaki - 9 very industrious, just needed a goal to finish off a very promising league debut Subs: Fuchs - 7 Tunisian guy - 7 Kante - 7.5 - like the look of him, couple of nice passes and looks like he could partner drinkwater very well this season Ref: 4 - sunderland could have ended that game with 8 men, he didnt stop them targetting okazaki who must have been wiped out about 10 times yesterday Sunderland - 2 - going down i fear, they have no quality, no creativity and only scored two goals that were gifted to them. Were it not for pantillimon, that could have finished 6 or 7 nil yesterday
Fox92 Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 Okozaki, Vardy and Mahrez 9's. Drinkwater and Albrighton 8's.
Molly Posted 9 August 2015 Posted 9 August 2015 I want to say thanks to the OP for being up to doing this again this year.
