sdb Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 OP team is pretty much spot on for me. Mahrez for Albrighton but that's it.
ImBlue Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 Mahrez is the best attacking player to ever pull on a shirt for leicester. Will go on to huge things.
elvisfmcfly Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 How do people not realise that mahrez is the best player to put a Leicester shirt on, including Martin o Neil years is beyond me Cause it's not true.
Clever Fox Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 Mahrez is the best attacking player to ever pull on a shirt for leicester. Will go on to huge things. Yes he's showing lots of potential but for all his undoubted talent he's still a boy learning his trade. We won't know how good he really id until he gets kicked into row Z a couple of times. If he comes back stronger and even more committed then we'll know we have a top player. But right now he's playing with a degree of anonymity, As is Shinji.
Sampson Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Kaamark and Parker had left by 2000. Picking players over 5 seasons of MONs squad vs the current squad is pretty unfair. It makes sense to compare from a certain game to the current side. If we're taking the Sunderlabd game in 2000 vs the current side I'd go. Flowers - Kasper is good, but Flowers was a step ahead and wins this comfortably. Huth / Elliott / Taggart - I like Walsh and Morgan, but they were/are ultimately great Championship players who sometimes struggle(d) in the Prem. Whereas Huth, Elliott & Taggart were more consistent at this level. Albrighton / Lennon / Izzet / Drinkwater / Mahrez - This is assuming that Drinkwater continues to make the step up. Guppy was decent (though I always felt a tad overrated) but I think Mahrez has to be there ahead of him. Vardy / Collymore - p. self explanatory. Subs: Schmeichel / Walsh / Morgan / Guppy / King / Cottee / Heskey
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Those doubting Guppy need to remember he performed at this level for many seasons, Mahrez may ultimately prove to be the better player but Guppy was no mug. To place his ability into persective the only player who could cross like him was Beckham. Great point. Had season tickets circa 97-99 and a bloke behind us in the Carling Stand used to slag off Guppy loudly every game. I thought he was watching a different player to me.
Weller in Tights Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Flowers Kaamark. Huth. Elliott. Schlupp Mahrez. Cambiasso. Izzett. Guppy Heskey. Vardy Subs Schiemichael Walsh Lennon Savage Collymore Steve Guppy was only just behind Beckham (who ranked number 1 in the league) for a number of seasons, for the number of successful crosses.
loAf Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 For Me: Flowers Huth - Elliott - Taggart Albrighton Guppy Cambi Lennon Izzet Heskey Vardy SUBS: Mahrez, Kaamark, Cottee, Walsh, Parker, Keller, Claridge
wattolcfc Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 I don't know why we always have to compare to the "Great O'Neill sides". That era has been and gone now. Yes it was the best time this football club has possibly ever seen but times have changed, football has changed. Can we not just appreciate what we have? The future is bright and I cannot wait to see where we go from here!
HighPeakFox Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Guppy overrated, someone suggested. Really???????????????
Gerard Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Not trying to show off or anything, but I said last season during our losing spell this team had the potential to be better than the MON team and got absolutely ridiculed. Funny how a few results can change opinions, so whilst I stick to my original opinion that this team can be better, until they actually prove it, no comparisons should be made. True, Mahrez is now the Algerian Messi with a £50m price tag round his neck. Two poor games and by the end of the month he'll be out of his depth and should have stayed in Ligue 2.
bovril Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Great point. Had season tickets circa 97-99 and a bloke behind us in the Carling Stand used to slag off Guppy loudly every game. I thought he was watching a different player to me. Ha ha you must have been next to me because I had the exact same bloke behind me. "Guppy you gutless bastard...." For Me: Flowers Huth - Elliott - Taggart Albrighton Guppy Cambi Lennon Izzet Heskey Vardy SUBS: Mahrez, Kaamark, Cottee, Walsh, Parker, Keller, Claridge That's the one.
Staffs Fox Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 I'd go with Flowers Huth Elliott Taggart Albrighton Guppy Lennon Izzet Mahrez Heskey Vardy
fleckneymike Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Great point. Had season tickets circa 97-99 and a bloke behind us in the Carling Stand used to slag off Guppy loudly every game. I thought he was watching a different player to me. Same here. Sat waaay back of the Carling stand 97 and 98 and the mumbles and grumbles every time he got the ball was quite noticable. Season ticket was something like £88 too.
hackneyfox Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 Unbelievable just how many people both then and now don't appreciate what a great player Guppy was for us. Seemed to spend half the game shaking my head at those mumbles and groans. Quite likely that those fans adored players who gave '110%' yet achieved very little.
hackneyfox Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 True, Mahrez is now the Algerian Messi with a £50m price tag round his neck. Two poor games and by the end of the month he'll be out of his depth and should have stayed in Ligue 2. Spot on. I like Mahrez but when he's been consistently good at this level for a couple of seasons he can be compared to Guppy.
Durnerz Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 Mahrez has barely got started here, undoubtedly will become a great player but to put him in ahead of Steve Guppy is lunacy.Guppy's cross accuracy percentage was the best in the league ahead of David Beckham at one stage not to mention the guys work rate and occasional goal contributions, the best left-sided player in my lifetime.
SB87_LCFC Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 Mine would be: Flowers Huth Elliott Taggart Mahrez Guppy Lennon Cambiasso Izzet Heskey Vardy Subs: Kasper, Walshy, Morgan, King, Cottee, Nugent - would have picked Claridge but he left for Wolves in '98
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 Albrighton / Lennon / Izzet / Drinkwater / Mahrez Imagine that as a 5 man Midfield!
FoxSince88 Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 Still stand by the fact that mahrez is the best "winger" I've seen in a city shirt, albrighton and guppy very similar players but can't remember any player having the ability to glide past players almost effortless. And people talking about consistency is argue he has been one of the most consistent in the let 18 months too
