nnfox Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 I'm a bit of a geek with numbers and stats and such like. I like visualising data. To that end I have come up with the following chart. The thick red line is our points tally this season and is plotted against the green line (last season) and the light blue line (our best Prem season - 99/00). The dotted lines represent data collected from the 20 team Premiership era (since 95/96) and show the total points tally scored by the team finishing 18th and thus taking the last relegation spot. Shown here are the lowest (30pts - Burnley 09/10), the highest (42pts - West Ham - 02/03) and the average (35.55pts). Whilst we have had a great start, we will probably lose a game or two now and again. It is important to keep things in perspective so I thought this might help with that. If people like it, I'll up date it after each game. If you want me to add or take away anything, let me know. If you want me to get a life and do something else entirely, I won't be offended.
PAULCFC Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 Keep it up.....i'm happy if the red line keeps above th blue line!
HitchinFox Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 Good work. Will be interesting to follow this if you do find the time to update it mate!
stulcfc Posted 22 August 2015 Posted 22 August 2015 Revenge porn is not cool anyone found to be doing this will be prosecuted
Freesolo Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 cool graphIts really hard to predict where we will roughly finish with the amount of variables in football, look at the pearson sacking. I don't believe certain teams always finish where they deserve over one season, I wonder how many seasons would even out the variance and prove who is the the best team 10? 20?
tom27111 Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 I've seen other stuff on her with fancy graphs, I'm not knocking them at at all. But the way I look at it is compare last season to now. Basically after 3 games we're 6 points up on last season's tally already. I'm looking at the same fixtures. Sunderland H. Last season 1 point. This season 3 points. West Ham A. 0 points. 3 points. Spurs H. 0 points. 1 point. I'm not expecting us to put 5 past United this year, so we can afford to lose that this season as we have points in the bank. Might sound silly, but that's how I'm looking at it.
Brainy Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 So long as we're about 20pts ahead in April of where we were last season that suits me
cc_star Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 A more even season was a given, with our experience at how to manage a game, additions of Okazaki, Fuchs and Huth for a whole season, plus strengthening the midfield. But so much of sport is mental & how you roll with the punches and hit back. How we maintained our team spirit last season despite being bottom so long, while not letting our heads drop... Was what kept us up. How we react to defeat or a poor run isn't known. How we change a match to affect a result. It's very early days, we'll see.
LCFCABC Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 It would be a good idea to pin a stats thread that includes things like this Could one of the mods set this up?

Obviously this season we can't play Hull, Burnley and QPR as they went down in that order, so I have replaced those teams with the three that came up, so for last season's Hull, read Bournemouth, Burnley = Watford and QPR = Norwich.
Happy Fox Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 We need 11 wins for survival. That can most certainly be achieved in the next 20-25 games I would say.
Webbo Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 If we're genuinely aiming for 42 points this season then hopefully we'll have around 21 by Boxing Day. Anything over that could mean we're heading for a top ten finish.
Woof Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 Interesting graphs - keep up the good work I used to do cumulative graphs for all the premier league seasons in the O'Neill era - it was interesting comparing each season with the previous ones. Occasionally you would see some patterns repeat.
PhillippaT Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 @nnfox That graph is pretty nice, too. Let's hope we win the next three matches...!

Anything over that could mean we're heading for a top ten finish. Crazy to think we're only 14 points away from that already. Don't want to get ahead of myself but it could be a really special season

I don't believe so, although we will be lower, come the end of today. /

Blue Peter Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 Really interesting topic and graphs! It will be interesting to see how this season compared to last at the 10 game mark. That's when last season we were at our lowest in terms of attitude, luck and ability to pick up any points. Think this should be pinned!

fuchsntf Posted 23 August 2015 Posted 23 August 2015 I prefer that you get yourself a life, find a nice girl take her for a nice night out, then a beautiful picnic the next day, to Bradgate Park.See her parents, ask for her hand in marriage, have a great wedding and honeymoon . But FFs keep your PC, you'll have some boring days.....Take command of your relationship, and tell your new found friends and beautiful wife,...you just need 30 minutes to update and corelate your new brilliant created foxes graph. There must be certain priorities in this new life of yours..!!!
