Guest Col city fan Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 10 mill is way over the odds..the lad has only had one season .. I think we all need to reshape our thinking on what is 'over the odds' these days mate. There are some players going for infeasible amounts of money and the gravy train shows no signs of slowing down. Am I making this up or did I hear this morning that Man Utd are still pursuing their interest in Neymar, valued at 245 mill?
Ric Flair Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Wouldn't mind taking a chance but they can seriously fcuk off if they want ten million, buying young English talent for vastly over inflated money isn't the way to go these days. Out of interest how much would you accept for Jamie Vardy?
FrankieADZ Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 10 mill is way over the odds..the lad has only had one season .. agree with you there, its the English player tax too i think
Hack Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 10 mill is way over the odds..the lad has only had one season .. Might be the right money as he is sort of a poor (not very) man's Rahem Sterling. That is how his game looks to me and considering Liverpool got 50 mil for him.
The Railway Man Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Out of interest how much would you accept for Jamie Vardy? Doubt I'd sell anyway, 20 million if we did and no one can seriously argue Gray is worth half of what Vardy is considering he's played one season in the Chamionship and done ok. The English market doesn't have a monopoly on football players, if they want 10mil for Gray I'd go abroad, with our scouting system we'll find someone twice as good.
thybluefox Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Transfer fees have become horribly skewed in the last couple of years when it comes to English players. Maybe we could get him cheaper if we loaned him back as part of the deal - I can't say I know a whole lot about him though.
Jon the Hat Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Imagine if Vardy was 19, what would he be worth? As much as that lad at WBA.

That is how his game looks to me and considering Liverpool got 50 mil for him. paying ridiculous money on a one season championship player is not good business in my eyes.. then again its not my money people want to throw about...I suppose 10 mill on a another bench warmer is a mere bagatelle ...
Devonfox1884 Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Loan them Moore and Hammond as sweeteners, and pay about £7m .
Hack Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Guys need to stop worrying about the fees. The owners know what they can afford and the value that fee becomes. If we pay 10mil (just a number I picked out of the air) and he plays well he then may become a player worth 3 times that. As has been suggested the market can work to our advantage. Just ask yourself how much we have payed for all our players and know what they are worth. Players fees may adjust down sometime in the future but they are what they are and frankly we are a beneficiary with our player assets worth much more than the original amount invested. As has been said what is Vardy worth? or Marhez? or Drinkwater. 5-10 mil for a english talent could be a bargain.

But he's 10 years younger than Vardy and potential often costs just as much as proven ability, crazy as it might seem. I tend to agree with you regarding getting value for money abroad but you need to find the right blend in your squad and Ranieri has said he'll look to bring English players in when he can. End of the day, if we've got the money then we've got the money. I personally think football has gone mad again, especially in England with this new TV deal. Vardy scored 5 goals last season and he's valued at £20 million aged 29? Frightening.
Hack Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Hope you ain't my bank manager... you would of thought we had never gone tits up before.... You have to get over the years pre this ownership group. This is know way the same organisation. The amount of cash this group have invested they will never let us get in that type of financial position again. Living in the past is part of the problems our fans have.

That's all it is though - potential, there have been a shitload of Demarai Gray's over the last ten years, a season or two in the Championship looking great then fading away. Comparing him to Vardy is ridiculous anyway, Vardy has torn to shreds Premier League defences and is isn't valued at a huge price because of his goals, purely on what he adds to a team, Gray struggled against Derby's right back last week.
hornyhollthefox123 Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Only saw him once and that was against Derby last week, very underwhelmed. Looked lazy and sloppy, certainly not better than anything we have. Certainly wasn't lazy. Was the best player on the pitch last Friday
Guest MattP Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 If you had only seen Mahrez once last season you probably would have thought he was a pile of shit if you saw the wrong game. I don't ever remember seeing him look shit in the Championship. Certainly wasn't lazy. Was the best player on the pitch last Friday You were watching a different game to me then, Thomas Ince to me looked the best player on the pitch by an absolute mile.
EGBFitness Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Reminds me abit like Redmond. Always wanted us to sign him so I'm all for this. Don't know if loan back will sweeten the deal and we need winger for this season as back up.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you just trying to explain the current situation in English football. When clubs are getting over £100 million in TV money give or take a few quid then it's suddenly going to increase the cost of players on these shores. Potential has always been a skewed factor, teams such as ourselves are looking for a golden ticket because we can't necessarily purchase proven players. We've seen how difficult it is signing bigger names like Inler, Kante and Aranguiz it was very frustrating and not always going to happen. So more demand occurs for players who have shown flashes of brilliance at smaller clubs and you hope you land a player who turns in to a wizard. We have to trust our scouts and management anyway. I don't see them lobbing stupid money at players for the sake of it, if Gray is on their radar then they'll believe he has all the attributes to be a very good player. If we spend a tenth of our TV money on a player with vast potential what's the problem? We spent a couple of million on Knockaert when I doubt we were getting £20 million from TV rights in the Championship.

Living in the past is part of the problems our fans have. reckless thinking.. people who have lots of money have it because they know how to handle it... spunking millions didn't work for the owners under sven...I don't want our club to end up with the culture where money can solve every problem...it does not work... it brings as many problems as it solves..

I'm sure Portsmouth fans were thinking just that when they were chucking the bills around like Sean Dyche.... I like to see us get good value
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Imagine if Vardy was 19, what would he be worth? As much as that lad at WBA. Probably more. Vardy has more desire and team ethic. I'm convinced Berahino would be an even higher price if it wasn't for the fact he appears to have a serious attitude problem!
les-tah Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 why worry about money our owners have the backing of the thai royal family... Therefore we are richer then man citys arab royal family owners. lol
lgfualol Posted 25 August 2015 Posted 25 August 2015 Got a lot of potential. I'd take him. I hate how expensive it'll be though.
