MPH Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 This isn't a question I ever thought I would be entertaining... And there's probably a few who are rolling their eyes at the thought of it..But it's astonishing how far we have come in the last 3-4 years. And of course it isn't just about the fee... With the influx of TV money next seasons and the Thais not afraid to spend, and with us having a top ten finish this season I can imagine us breaking the 10 million barrier a couple of occasions this time next year.. It's just 20 million seems kind of iconic to me... So just wondered people's thoughts? ( Edit : It's just after 6.30 am here and I'm up feeding my son in a very quiet house... Plenty of thinking time! )
dpjfox Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 it wont be long now, maybe next summer, we are gradually progressing as a club and with that comes the ability to attract better players and hence the need to continually break our transfer record.
Wymsey Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 Harry Kane, 3/4 years time when he reaches his peak.
johnny the fox Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 three minutes past two in the afternoon on August the twenty first, two thousand and eighteen. it will be fine weather with no threat of rain.
MPH Posted 29 August 2015 Author Posted 29 August 2015 i can't help but think our owners are casting envious eyes over the Korean Tottenham just signed for £22m
Ian W LCFC Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 It could very realistically happen next season if we do well in this campaign. Very exciting indeed.
Clever Fox Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 We already have in Mahrez once he keeps performing to the same standard. I guess you meant when will we spend 20 mil on a player. It's only a number at the end of the day what matters is can the player produce regularly. there have been quite a few 20 mil plus players who I wouldn't even give a game too. Spurs signed a few.
Captain... Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 For me £15m is a huge mark as that was what Shearer went for. Only 7 clubs have broken £20m for a player, so I think it will be a while, even with the extra money from next season.
LCCFox96 Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 Should we survive £10mil will go in the next couple windows. £20mil will take a long time to build up too. We'd have to be 3-4 seasons stable and very, very close to Europe - if not in - before I would be comfortable seeing that kind of money dropped on a player.
Guest Bilo Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 I think £10m could easily go in January, unless we add another winger before the weekend's out.. We're not quite the finished article yet, and a £20m player might be a way off if we're honest. That being said, there's likely to be an upsurge in transfer fees next season when the TV money is really boosted, so £20m fees could be fairly standard at this level within a couple of years.
filbertstreet Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 Tomorrow. reckon we'll putting a bid for lee tomlin in then?

We may have a 20 million pound player at some stage but we SIGNED a 400k player...
fleckneymike Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 Next season I suspect prices will become even more obscene as TV rights kick in, that is why so many players are already going for inflated fees as clubs try desperately to either secure or sustain Premier League status. We may well sign someone for £20m but that amount wont reflect quality I fear.
The Doctor Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 Have we even hit 10m yet? Record signings still Ulloa at ~£8m isn't it? Kram and Okazaki both around £7m.
fox123 Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 I would rather buy 50 Mahrez's at 400k than spend 20 million on a player in it for the money! What ever a player costs, he needs to fit in to our team as a team player, not a money man!
MPH Posted 29 August 2015 Author Posted 29 August 2015 I would rather buy 50 Mahrez's at 400k than spend 20 million on a player in it for the money! What ever a player costs, he needs to fit in to our team as a team player, not a money man! you're definitely right on that one. its more about the quality than the price tag..... but its also true to say the average top quality player will cost in the millions. Mahrez really was an exception...
Freesolo Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 If we have a top ten finish this season, possibly in the 2016 summer
Will1981 Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 we would have two £10m + signings this window if Aranguiz and Austin had joined.
Danizen Posted 30 August 2015 Posted 30 August 2015 If we get big money for Mahrez and there's a standout replacement, we might be strong armed into spending £20m. Otherwise, I think we'll stay in the £10-15m market.
gerrytaggart Posted 30 August 2015 Posted 30 August 2015 reckon we'll putting a bid for lee tomlin in then?10M per moob.
