dorsetboy Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 i think mahrez wants to stay he knows it and his agent knows it but is trying to obviously get him an extra 20k a week by saying he might leave . mahrez married an english bird and is a proper muslim who practises the religion quite devoutley and he said he loves the fact leicester is so multicultural . kante is going to have the pick of his clubs in the summer but him and mahrez have become close friends so just maybe mahrez can tempt him to stay another season

I'm not suggesting for a minute that they're hangers on, but I just sensed he had a responsibility to provide for them. I don't know about his upbringing but I guess it wasn't that privaledged. As PFA player of the year and at the peak of his powers, he has a once in a lifetime opportunity to land a massive contract somewhere and make him and his family/friends financially secure for life. My fear is that if we don't match these offers that will inevitably come in, we may lose him. And I wouldn't blame him to be honest. It's a short career and you never know what might happen. Good luck to him whatever he decides.

I'm sure we will offer him a cracking contract, but how 'cracking' will it be? You could argue that if Hazzard, Ozil, Silva, Sterling and the like are on around £200k p/w, then Mahrez could be offered similar by the big money clubs. What's the most we would go to I wonder? £80 - £100k p/w? He could potentially double that in today's market.
