The 'Faith In Humanity Restored' Thread

i.e. the total opposite to the 'absolute cvnts' thread.

Not sure if there is a thread like this but didn't know what to search for to find it!

Anyway, fair play to this girl (& her friend).

Any other stories that restore your faith in humanity amongst all the doom and gloom we see on the news all day every day?

I lost my driving license, student card and bus pass on a night out about two weeks ago and on Tuesday it was posted back through my letterbox.

I found someones driving license, student card and bus pass the other day and posted it back to them. Not after I'd used his identity to run up loads of debts obviously,  I can't be all good.

38 minutes. That's all this thread needed.

The day I can use the internet and not see the phrase "Faith in humanity restored" will be a great day. People are losing their faith in humanity too often for my liking.

Not quite sure if this fits in here, but anyway...

The sheer volume of people who turned up to cheer us all along at the London Pride parade yesterday was absolutely incredible. Particularly so given the - understandable - anxiety because of the recent terrorist attacks.

I was born in '93 so obviously the attitudes towards LGBT+ stuff are much, much more accepting than when these Pride celebrations started, but it was still difficult growing up being 'different', so seeing tens of thousands of people lining the streets to cheer everyone on - even sections like ours which had less 'entertaining' groups like the ones blaring music - was unbelievable and one of the best experiences I've had to date.

A few weeks back I was changing my little girl and noticed a wasp buzzing about in our lounge. Ushered it out the window, then I saw another one, and then another one and then another one. I realised that they were coming not through the window but through the grates in our woodburner. I looked in and there were loads of them buzzing about.

Anyways, I rang Rentokil and they tell me this could be very serious, potentially putting my family at risk as these wasps can be very aggressive. They could come that day but it would cost £250 all in to get rid.

Sounded expensive to me so decided to ring some local businesses. The first guy, a self-employed fella was an absolute diamond. He listened to my explanation and explained that these were in fact honeybees. He advised me that he could come and get rid of them at a cost of about £150 but that if I waited for another 24-48 hours then they'd more than likely leave naturally. He said if I just waited then it wouldn't cost me a penny and God bless him, the nest was gone about 18 hours later.

Just thought that was so honest, he could have made £150 out of me so easily as I'm completely uneducated about things like this but he didn't. It's not much but I dropped in a 4 pack of Fursty Ferret to say thank you. Hopefully he drinks ale!

Its what any good trades person is like. He could well earn more than 150 through your recommendations now

Exactly.

An ex girlfriend of mine her dad was a property developer and he said when he started out he told his plumber & plasterer don't rip me off and you'll always have work. Rip me off once and I won't use you again.

They never ripped him off once and 20 years on they still get regular well paid work from him.

Absolutely, it's just that there are fewer and fewer of these about as so many people are hell-bent on making a quick buck and don't think long term. I've already recommended him a couple of times and should I need help in similar circumstances in the future theres only one place I'm going.

Good to know that there's people and businesses out there who still operate that way.

I used to use a washing machine repair man who would listen to the problem then tell you how to repair it over the phone if possible, he never charged for a call out even if the machine was beyond repair, only charging for work carried out. The machine we have now is a Bosch recommended by him which is still going strong 9 years on. Needless O say we passed his number on to many people. Unfortunately, sadly, I think he passed away a year or two back.

There are plenty of stories about individual bravery coming out of Tunisia that restore my faith in humanity.

I often visit the descendants of a family in Italy that housed my grandad for a year during the War, knowing full well they'd be executed if found.

2 weeks ago hiking in the mountains and old guy stopped me and gave me a bag of fruit. Probably a lot for him.

I think humans still tend towards good, ultimately. You just don't hear about it.

Didn't know where to put this. It is sort of a Good News thread about peoples' kindness and making a difference in hard times.

A shopkeeper has started giving food away to the needy after catching  someone stealing a bottle of water. He said it would not have bothered him if it was beer but to steal water indicated to him that they were desperate.

Should of been sectioned.who nicks something you can get for free?

Bottled water is slightly expensive for what it is (yes I take your point about tap water, which I drink, but it's not possible "on the go").
