Always struck me as being a bit crap really. Maybe we should get a big red rotating light when the ball goes in the net like in the ice hockey?

It hardly needs saying that big flags are tacky and do nothing for the atmosphere inside the ground, or our reputation with other fans in England. The club do this because they care about how the club is perceived in the countries around the world that are screening the game, especially across Asia. Unfortunately, people in other countries who watch football on TV like this stuff and until that changes, the club will continue to take advantage of it.
