Keep calm and remember we're not a selling club

There's a lot of talk in lots of threads about so called bigger clubs coming in for players .... I've been trying to rack my brain for the last time we sold a player to a bigger club - I can't recall if we have ever done this under the current owners - please correct me if I'm wrong. But I don't think we should be worried at least for the next window

Don't think we've had any players that bigger clubs have been interested in until this season though.

This.

For the last 2 seasons, at least (Championship winners and bottom-half Premier club), we had no players of interest to a top-half club....but now Vardy, Mahrez & Kante could be.

Of course, they're already at a club challenging for Europe, so they've no need to move.

I suppose, if you look back more than 2 seasons, maybe 1 or 2 players from the side that lost in the play-offs would have been of interest to a bottom-half Premier club, but can't remember us fighting off bids.

Will be interesting to see the club's response if serious bids are made in January by clubs regularly challenging for Europe.

I'm pretty sure that in our Championship winning season we fought off some bids for out of contract players, but Pearson chose to risk losing them for nothing in the summer but going for promotion.

It will depend more on whether a player wants to move and a lot of them seem to be very influenced by their agents.

As others have said its been more of a case of us having utter dross rather than being able to fend off interest from bigger clubs.

As I've stated elsewhere every club, with the possible exception of Real and Barca, are selling clubs. If an established top six side want a player from outside the top six then they invariably get them.

I agree, if an elite club makes a serious offer and the player wants to move then there's not a lot a club like us can do but hold out for the biggest price. Even the likes of Liverpool can't keep hold of their best players so we don't really stand a chance. The key thing is to use the money received wisely, and as fans remember that having elite clubs wanting our players shows that we're right at the top of our game and we should enjoy being here rather than worry about the unavoidable and inevitable.

If as reported Real Madrid wanted Vardy and Barcelona wanted Mahrez then it's only fair on the players to let them go.

Football is a meritocracy as the Spanish giants are top of the food chain, even Man Utd have to bend over for them with Ronaldo and De Gea being examples.

I would like to think we'd laugh off any attempt by anyone outside the top six, hopefully Tottenham too and possibly Liverpool. The top four would have to reluctancy bend over for but to be fair I think there is only about a dozen clubs in world football that we would be pretty powerless to stop their advances.

Down to agents or players being unhappy, well the squad togetherness and spirit is there in spades and nothing has changed even with a change of manager. The club is moving forward, when Pearson left the club came out asking us to trust them, Susan Whelan got some stick for her comments and asked for time and trust from us and hopefully the majority of us are not complaining anymore. Our players are not destitute and the club doesn't need the money but everyone has a price and those we see as integral parts of our squad would not go on the cheap. If your talking about Vardy, Mahrez,Schlupp,Kante and Drinkwater you would be looking at nearer £100 million than £50 million.

Yeah what Silebyboy said. Never have our players had such media recognition. Every week now Vardy has a new article written about him.

Don't think it will be long before teams start bidding for the likes of Vardy, Mahrez, Kante and maybe Drinkwater

lol  Read in The Sun today that Spurs are interested in Vardy for 8 million! Perhaps we can sell them Mahrez for £150 and Kasper for 50p as well.

If the likes of Barca, RM etc. came in for our players I'm sure they would be tempted- but in reality I doubt it would happen - we've had an exceptional few months but without blue tinted glasses are any of them good enough for their first teams ? I can more likely see bids from mid table Prem teams but as things stand why would you move? its either a step down or sideways or risk being a bench warmer.

People are going way, way overboard because of our good start to the season. If a top 4 side/big European side came in for any of our players we would be very hard pushed to hang on to them, especially if they wanted to move. We've not had a player worth buying since Heskey.

It all ended on that day.

MON realised the limitations of the club and left for Celtic in the summer. MON then takes Lennon with him leaving us without either the focal point of attack or plug in midfield.

I don't think the loss of Vardy would be as catastrophic as that. Would still be a major loss though

Agreed but I don't see the goals pouring in from Okazaki if Vardy were to leave. ;)

Agree to a point.

There are high % of players who would die for the that chance for that special team to come a knocking, then saying yes.

Younger players know it helps to build their career, so why shouldnt they...ie: Mahrez

OLDER players , last chance Saloon, so to speak.

I feel With Vardy he knows what hes got here, plus hes 1st choice.

RMadrid, Vardy (he wont be going in january) comes to him in the Summer.Just to be in competition for a possible matchday selection, not 1st choice, gets a possible 20 games before retiring, or dropping a couple of levels before retiring.

Money..1 at a push 2 seasons of ridiculous higher wages, taste of Spain ,family change for max 2 years.

Stays in England, goes to a real top Club, not Liverpool, they spit out strikers for the love of it, unlike Crouch and a few more, in 2-3 seasons his age wont get him back to top level.

Stays at City, small wage increases, but a great chance to achieve more as an individual, and become a legend in Lineker status.Better chance , because of team regular selection, plus extending England collection, in his desired position.

Secures his family future, without any upheaval.

If Vardy was 2 years younger, I would say go for it.

But hey, upto now, even if you just have this season as top scorer, you can be proud of your achievements, you have already become alot of schoolboys ( many pundits too) hero.

Mahrez, Schlupp, and Dyer, lads go for it, with the fans blessings, though prefer you to stay.

The one moving part that could change everything is an agent.

A club might not be a selling club and a player might be happy there – but if an agent wants/sniffs a deal (read this as "opportunity to line his pockets") and has the trust of the player, then there is no guarantee that the player's head won't be turned by the agent.

Happens all the time, unfortunately.

Can't imagine Vardy taking to London life one little bit, anymore than than their lovely locals would accept him as one of them. More chance of Rooney joining Madrid.

The only thing that worries me is a Spurs/Berahino type situation where a derogatory bid comes in and a player becomes unsettled, although I don't see that any of our players would take the same stance that Berahino did.

Why do we need to sell....unless the sort of silly money Madrid offered for Bale is on the table? Even then Bale had European experience, do we seriously have a player of that quality?
