ozleicester Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 We have 40 points, we are safe. We should now make the FA cup our main priority for 15/16. Lets throw our best team at getting through to Wembley and potentially winning England's most prestigious cup competition. bugger the league, let Europe work itself out.... lets win the cup!
Loggy88 Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 I totally disagree! With the excellent position we are in, we need to focus on mantaining it. Vards is injured but I would of rested him anyway at Spurs in the cup. I would give some of the fringe players a chance. Inter, Kramaric, Dyer, Benalouane. The league should be the priority.

Totally agree! Hope we put in a decent performance but go out.. A top 4 finish should be our ONLY focus. (we don't have the squad to challenge for both).

I assume your emoji at the end of your post means you are being sarcastic. If not then you're mad. We can challenge for the FA cup every season. Will we ever get another chance like this at challenging for a top 4 finish. Not likely. Let all our fringe players play the FA cup and rest our key players for the push for European football.
MooseBreath Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Fine example of being contrary just for the sake of it this. Obviously potential champions league qualification takes priority over the FA Cup.
Harry - LCFC Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 The upcoming league game could turn out to be pivotal in a potentially era-defining season. Normally I would be but I won't be too offended when Ranieri picks a weaker team on Sunday.
ozleicester Posted 4 January 2016 Author Posted 4 January 2016 The emoji was to acknowledge that I was aware this would be a somewhat emotive comment. I personally would rather win the FA cup, than get into Europe. I dont believe this will be our only chance to do either, but the FA cup would be my first preference.
Hollism Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 The South Park references are throwing me off a bit Oz. Can't tell if you're being super serial?
ozleicester Posted 4 January 2016 Author Posted 4 January 2016 The South Park references are throwing me off a bit Oz. Can't tell if you're being super serial? im thuper therial. Yes, i do mean it... i would focus on the cup. the south park references are an acknowledgement that I may be seen as a nutter for thinking outside the "norm"
goose2010 Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 in a strange way we have too many point to take the cup serious. If we had 20-30 points then yes I would go for the cup. But we should be concentrating on the league now. Top 4 is a real possibility now and top 6 definitely is. We have a good 7 - 8 players that need some game time so lets use them.
Grewks Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 The FA cup just doesnt have the prestige it used to.... I'd much rather hear the champions league anthem blast around the KP, just imagine it haha.
Captain... Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 There a few considerations: Timing, we have a week off, then the 3 games in 7 days, the first being the FA cup tie. Fitness, some of those boys could be knackered and need a rest, we have a couple of injury concerns. Vardy is out, so who will lead the line, is this game a chance to give Krama/Shinji/Ulloa a chance to stake their claim for the league game. Do we need a pan B, is this a chance to play a more possession based game? Morale, we haven't won for a few games, another loss could be damaging especially if it is our first team that lose. There are some fit and very able players on the fringes of the first team that want to play even if it is put themselves in the shop window. Worst case scenario, we play our strongest team, Spurs play a weakened team, we draw 0-0 and fail to score again, and then lose the replay, knackered and demoralised going in to the league game against Spurs. Even if we win with our strongest team there is a risk of injury and fatigue for the league games. Best case scenario, fringe players given a run out step up and play well and win comfortably. A draw with a fringe team wouldn't be a disaster as we would use the fringe team in the replay giving them more game time. A defeat with a weakened team would be annoying, but it would confirm their shortcomings at this level and we may see some action in the transfer window. It would also give us a good look at Spurs. So I would be very tempted to make a few changes, except goalkeeper, but If the sports science team are confident of keeping the players fit and that they can play the next three matches at 100% then maybe changes aren't necessary and if we are going to give Shinji/Krama/Ulloa a fair crack at leading the line, then we need to give them the right support players behind them.
deep blue Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 I disagree with Oz because the most important long-term plan for the club is to become a successful Prem club. This requires consistent development over the next few years. Were we to win the FA Cup then how does that fit in with this aim? It doesn't add much in kudos (look how poorly many of our top clubs treat the competition and how many doggo clubs have won the cup in recent years). It earns us comparatively little in revenue. And look at teams like Wigan who have won the cup and then gone quickly and disastrously downhill. On the other hand, a top 4 finish will be much more respected - we will be recognised as, not just having a handful of good games to win a cup, but as having kept a high level of performance going throughout a long, hard season. Potential transfer targets will see this too. We will be in a prestigious Euro competition next season, we will have earned the cash to be able to strengthen our squad to meet the extra demands that come with it. And so on to the next season, looking to continue this improvement in a smooth progression. We need to reach this point as quickly as possible now, before our owners get fed up and want to sell up. The cup can be fitted in later when this first part of the plan has been achieved.
thybluefox Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 People also wanted us to win the FA Cup last year, rather than stay up. Some get blinded by a good cup run, but look at Wigan. The best thing for this club, and if we all want to keep watching exciting players, is that we succeed in the league. Given the astonishing chance we currently have to finish in the top 4, it would be mental to sacrifice that for a day out at Wembley.
Far Post Gerry Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Couldn't agree more. Big piece of silverware missing from our trophy cabinet, and we should have a serious go. The league title is unlikely. I'd much rather finish 5th and win the cup than 3rd or 4th and not win it.
thybluefox Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Genuine question - which do people feel puts us in a better position for attracting better players in the summer, and thus ensuring the club continues to move forwards? An FA Cup Win. Or a Top 4 finish. People would really rather one day at Wembley and a trophy over Champions League football next season?

The champions league gives us a far far far bigger platform for growth.
foxfanazer Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 If we had an easier fixture I'd see the logic but we're unlikely to beat spurs at WHL so not concerned if we go out.

The FA cup is becoming as meaningless as the league cup. Would rather watch an el classico/glasgow derby.

An FA Cup Win. Or a Top 4 finish. People would really rather one day at Wembley and a trophy over Champions League football next season? Fair question, although imo this is about success ...now! This is somewhat reflective of a societal obsession about always planning for the future...i know we need to plan for the future but we also need to live in the now. We could (really try to) win the FA cup and continue to build.
Stevosevic Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 If we get Top 4 it could change the shape of the club for years to come, allowing us to have plenty of good opportunities to win the FA Cup.

I'd much rather finish 5th and win the cup than 3rd or 4th and not win it.So you wouldn't want teams like Barcelona/Bayern (maybe) coming to the KP? You'd rather win a cup which we play in every year, then an opportunity to play in a cup we may never ever get the chance to play in again?
Voll Blau Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Depressing that people wouldn't want to try to win everything we possibly can. Dropping out of the Cup is no guarantee at all of good league form.
bobtickle Posted 4 January 2016 Posted 4 January 2016 Got a glorious chance for champions league, We'll play a weakened team and rightly so. But im sure spurs will rest players too. So we have a reasonable chance to get through anyway. I dont think its mutually exclusive so with a bit of luck we might be able to get through two or 3 rounds resting players. Then we could reassess , depending how well the teams around us are doing in europe at the time. At the moment the league is 100% the priority but we want to compete in all competitions if we do get into europe next season we might have a nasty shock if we cant even contend with fa cups games now.
