I love your posts. I only understand about 75% of them, but they're always great. Disagree on this one though. If you're a runner, you can run 10k 4 times a week without ever feeling tired. But if you do it for too many weeks without a break, even if you're super-fit, you pick up niggles. Little tweaks of the ankle, slight calf strain, tight hammies every now and then. Nothing huge, but things make you more prone to bigger injuries and that would probably go away if you put your feet up for a week instead. That's all this is about. Our first teamers have had six months solid in preseason and the most demanding league in the world without a break. They're fit, and they're capable of playing, but their chances of overcoming niggles and avoiding bigger injuries later will be improved by a rest. We have rotated less than any other team this year. That's why I'd like our key players to sit out of the Cup match, go away for a weekend, and come back refreshed. I don't want to see Mahrez and Albrighton (Fuchs, DD, Kante, Morgan) limping off later in the year. This isn't 'one more game', it's 10 days' rest versus zero rest. And our second string is more than good enough for Spuds anyway... It's not our choice, luckily, but if Mahrez is even on the bench on Saturday I'll boo Claudio till my throat is raw...
Guest MattP Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 That cup run to the final really did Villa a lot of harm last year.
Strokes Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Get in the champions league and we can build a side capable of challenging for the FA cup regularly.

Raw Dykes Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 It's just such a small-time mentality to have though, citing the Wigan and Portsmouth example. I don't see anyone saying that about other recent Cup winners like Arsenal and Man City? I agree we need to rest a couple of players and will accept it if we do on Sunday, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be trying to win it as well as doing our best in the league. Say we get through on Saturday and retain our league position when the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds take place? Do we have the same attitude then? Life is full of future possibilities and impossibilities and so is football, that's the fun of it! We're a side playing wonderful and fearless football this season. We should have embraced that in the League Cup, but didn't, so let's make sure we do in the competitions we're still involved in! Well, amongst the names on the FA Cup trophy, we are still relatively small-time. Maybe not for much longer, who knows, but this club is nowhere near the size of the elite few. The difference between us and WIgan or Portsmouth when they won it is that they didn't have a realistic chance of doing something unimaginable in their league campaigns. To them, their cup runs were what the league is to us right now. The difference between us and Arsenal and Man CIty is clear - they have enough strength in depth to go all out for each competition they enter. No-one would really be shocked if they won the cup with their 2nd team. I want to make it clear that I don't want us to get knocked out of the cup. I just want us to take the opportunity to rest whichever players need it, and play whichever players need the match practice. Ideally, we'd go through with our fringe players. I just think the situation we find ourselves in the league is a golden opportunity, and I don't want important players being risked on a seperate front. Get in the champions league and we can build a side capable of challenging for the FA cup regularly. Exactly. People could argue that it would be short-termist to take the FA Cup seriously under current circumstances. I think we might well be spreading ourselves too thin if we were to put out a full-strength side in both competitions with our current squad. If we were to reach the Champions' League, I'd expect the club to beef up the squad so that we could rotate it a bit more and be more competitive in more than one competition.
ThaiFox Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Liverpool have more injuries after tonights game with Stoke. If this happens to us on Sunday we wont be able to cope. If we qualify for the C/L, as Strokes says, we'll attract better players, have a lot more money and can challenge for the cups with a greatly enhanced squad.
fuchsntf Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Thats it isnt it, just found the key word, that worries the posters who want to rest majority of the team.. IF.... If we have a great chance of CL, we shouldnt gamble it... THEN I ask this IF we have a chance on 4 levels, with the massive chance of some being lost. Then why gamble one of them out, IF just one of those chances or 2 become possible. because at this stage we cant predict, how it will pan out, to put good % s on something coming out with something. You need to keep the door open to all those chances, and not Sacrifice the unknown future upon the one hope of ...IF......IF....and IF again. "If" confused....The 4 chances. 1) Title 2) Top 4 3) Top 6 4 FA-cup.. Not forgetting the ideas being mentioned from all posters are doing one thing... Its Just comparing theoritical chances and 'What IFs' Any players picked of course will do their best and hope to win, their games. BUT..I want to see from, owners, board management, and Through Claudio's selection that they are not sacrificing one of those chances for any of the other, at this stage of the season....Ask me again, if/when it comes to the FA-cup, against the Everton and Chelsea games, and according to state of team and squad. Sundays result might nullify all this BS anyway. FFS we might do a Leeds and end up with 'Note', and that my fellow foxes would be.......
TheLittleBigMan Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Gotta focus on the league if there's a CL place up for grabs. Would love to see batty bonaldo back down our place. Up the foxes
ozleicester Posted 8 January 2016 Author Posted 8 January 2016 Just listened to the BBC podcast.. bloody Stringer stealing my topics!
C-man Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Blimey I hope those going on Sunday don't have the same laissez-faire attitude displayed in this thread. Mind you, atmosphere can't be any worse than it has been away tbf.

Mind you, atmosphere can't be any worse than it has been away tbf. Think we should send our 2nd string away supporters to this, you know, the ones who only use the clappers and sit most of the time, we need to save our standers and singers for the League
Voll Blau Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Liverpool have more injuries after tonights game with Stoke. If this happens to us on Sunday we wont be able to cope. MooseBreath Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 I just want to see us playing in the champions league. Don't care if it doesn't last, don't care if we get hammered in every tie (not that we would - if we're capable of qualifying for the champions league through the premier league then we'd be capable of competing in the CL). FA cup win would be great but let's be honest, we're I only in the third round and we're away at spurs, a game we'll struggle to win no matter what side we put out. If we were in the quarter final then it would be different, but right now our chances of qualifying for the CL are high, while our chances of winning the FA Cup are low. We've got to go with our best chance.
Thracian Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 I don't know how we'd likely get into any quarter-final without putting our best team out - and that's what I'd do because it would just be the next game on the calendar for me. But I don't think that's what Ranieiri will do because I imagine he'll think it'll overstretch us and compromise our chase for the next 39 league points. Next season, or soon after that, the situation might be better and we might have a strong enough squad to compete properly in all competitions. But right now we're stretched pretty thin even for League games.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Would like to see us put out a strong squad but I just can't see CR showing his hand for the league game. I reckon it'll be:Kasp RDL Was Benny Chiwell Gray Kingy © Inler Dyer Okazaki UlloaPretty dismal up top but not too bad other than that. Edit; just remembered Kasper is vice captain so chuck him the armband.
ThaiFox Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Except the same argument will be applied on a different level. "Need to save our best for Europe" etc. Maybe, but my point was with a much stronger squad we will be able to properly compete in all competitions. The Champions League will enable us to attract better players and it would greatly enhance the standing of LCFC worldwide. However much anyone wants to win the FA cup, it will not have the same effect if we fail to finish top four. Wigan may have a cup win on the honours list, but they quickly lost their top players are now playing in front of sub 10,000 crowds in the third tier. I wonder if they would swap positions with us now? Villa went into this season thinking they were better than they were because of their cup final. They also lost their top players and are now certain to be relegated. Being in the C/L gives us the best chance of not only attracting top players, but also holding onto our very best players. Would Vardy or Mahrez stay if we were cup winners but 10th in the P/L and Man City came in for them? I think not. We have much more chance holding onto them if we qualify for the C/L. I love the FA cup, but because this season has been so much better than any one expected, I personally would prefer to concentrate on something we may find it difficult to achieve again, which is the C/L. If we were in a Stoke, Everton, Southampton league position, I would have the opposite opinion.
anotherharboroughfox Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Winning breeds confidence = more winning. FA Cup = Win in the club history books FOREVER. The view that you cannot achieve success in one if competing in another is bullshit. Yes, rest a couple of players if needed but why not try to win every game possible? As Voll said, this year we're chasing top 4, last year battling relegation, year before that chasing promotion etc. And every year people say the league should be the focus. We should just forfeit the cup then? or get rid of the FA Cup altogether? every team has league targets and every team has cup targets and the idea that one has to be to do well and the other to do badly is just pure shit logic.
GaelicFox Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Champions league football and the globe becomes our oyster !

Dan Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 I've been a staunch backer of taking the cup seriously, but even I'm struggling to make a case for not making changes this time around. It's a farcical fixture schedule, convinced they've put league games after the third and fourth rounds just to devalue the tournament further and encourage more focus on the Premier League. Add in the fact we go there three days later there's the element of not wanting to give too much away tactically. I'm convinced we'll throw out a second string side and lose in a shit game. Just not feeling it this time I'm afraid. I don't want us to go out, I still want us to win undoubtedly, although I can respect it taking a back seat this year, it isn't like we're cruising to a 13th placed finish.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 I'm going to watch this game knowing that even if we lose, our close rivals will have at least one extra game to play between league games Anyone who thinks there is no such thing as a jaded team, hasn't been following England for the last 40 years! Is it extra time or a replay, if we draw?

Jimbo Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 Ugh. I see this nonsense all the time. For Wigan fans it was the proudest moment in a pretty dismal history, which is there in the record books forever, not to mention their fans' memories of that day which will last a lifetime. Winning trophies is what football's all about and we've never won this one. Time to stop acting like it's something we can do without in our trophy cabinet. I get what you're saying here and any other season I'd agree 100% with you. But right now, we're in a position that could change the future of our club for a good few years. If (big IF) we finish in a champions league spot, the money that would generate would be unreal, on top of what we'd already earn from the premier league. The calibre of player that we could attract increases massively. If we could put ourselves in a position to challenge every year, the team improves year on year. Trophies would follow. For now, just this year, the FA cup can wait

The FA cup is now a semi final and final completion for premier league teams , if you reach that stage you start to try , if you don't your not bothered
