FA Cup - We should be super serious

Depressing that people wouldn't want to try to win everything we possibly can. Dropping out of the Cup is no guarantee at all of good league form.

This is true...

But let's be honest the draw put the dampers on things, albeit we did beat Spurs in the cup last season..

Be interesting what side they put out.. I've a feeling they'll be at almost full strength!

Its not rocket science to think that having more rest in between league games = a higher chance of winning league games. We have a 25 man squad for a reason.

Just imagine our first 11 get top 4 and our reserve players win the FA cup. Stuff of dreams

That's exactly what I want us to do, to win everything... it's about giving yourself the best chance of both. If resting some jaded players means they have more in the tank for the league then that's fine. Having seen our last few performances, I see little to be gained by making a group of players already not looking quite right to play even more games without a rest.

A top 4 finish and a CL qualifying spot will not guarantee we can attract players, we have no pedigree in Europe so we will be as appealing as FC Astana or Bate Borisov assuming we even qualify for the group stage, Apoel Nicosia, Qarabag, Videoton they haven't attracted any superstars.

Even with a top 4 finish and the promise of a Champions League qualifying match we will not be more  appealing than Liverpool, Chelsea, Man United, Spurs, it doesn't work like that.

If we finish in the top 4 and reach the  group stages and give it a good go, then qualify again for the CL, then we might be able to attract the big players.

Getting bombed out in the Qualifiers and then failing in the Europa League if we end up there will not do anything other than confirm the view that we are a small club that got lucky.

I'm not saying that winning the FA Cup will change that, it won't, but in 10 years time we will still have the trophy, finishing top 4 will also never be taken away from us, but the long lasting benefits of getting in the champions league could be wiped out in 180 minutes, or 540 minutes of humiliation if we make the group stage.

Never said it did.

We'd be more attractive than Southampton, Everton, Palace, Stoke, Watford though, and they're the clubs that are similar to us in terms of size and ambition.

They're pretty terrible examples. We're part of a much stronger league and able to offer much better wages to top players. Even now, I'd fancy us to be able to beat teams like those you have named to players signatures.

We won't be able to attract the top elite players, but I don't see any reason we wouldn't be able to attract players in the tier below. I'd say we'd have probably signed Aranguiz if we were guaranteed champions league football this season.

Usually I'm against wholesale changes but circumstances this time are slightly different. We've had a tough run of fixtures over a short period of time and clearly players are fatigued, the FA shouldn't have put another league game a couple of days later. Pretty sure most if not all sides will make a lot of changes.

Still want us to win and stay in the competition but understand then changes we will inevitably make.

The side are looking tired. Ranieri said after the Liverpool game our style of play is taking a lot out of the players. Much as I'd love to see us win the FA cup we must play our second side at Tottingham. I hate losing to them more than any other side, but I'd rather lose the cup match there than the league match. I really hope we don't lose both.

Ranieri also said he hopes all the teams around us go a long way in Europe, obviously thinking it will make them more tired. I took this as a clear indication he will field our league cup side next Sunday. It would be good for us if all the teams around us have a long cup run, and continue to do well in Europe. This is all providing we can start winning matches again and keep up the great work we've shown in the league so far this season!

Would love to go through to fourth round but I doubt we will and I think we will and should rest the whole team. We've looked very jaded with the busy and difficult fixtures, then there is another game Wednesday... Get everyone looking fresh again to kick on in the league.

Although some players will benefit from a rest I think the fact that we're playing spurs again within a few days is a good reason to shake up the team.

As for the examples of teams crashing out of the league after winning the cup there's no guarantee that finishing top 4 will stop us doing the same.

I've waited 50 odd years to win this cup whilst seeing the likes of Cov and Wigan winning it so I'd love us to have a serious go but it'll be whatever CR and the club decides on priorities.

I've always been an advocate of us winning a FA Cup, mainly because I never thought I would see us win the top flight. This season has potentially changed that, however it is still very unlikely we will win the League.

So for me it boils down to this. We have to finish top 3. Or have a go at the Cup. How will we feel if we finish 4th and in go out in the qualifying round? Or we could slip to 5th and end up in the same place as we would but with the FA cup to our name.

It's as if people think that going out the cup goes hand in hand with staying up where we are in the league.

I said the same when we were top of the championship, does anyone really believe had we taken the FA cup seriously we would have fell away to 7th again?

I accept some of our players do need a rest, Vardy looks knackered, Wes has been playing football for about 17 months straight now. So changes are going to happen, but please, please give it ago, by that I mean Kasper in goal, 2 decent CB which we have and play 2 upfront and have ago at winning this 1st tie.

The chance of finishing in the top 4 may not happen again so I would personally prefer us focus on that. For us to do it this season would give us a great foundation to build on and establish ourselves in the league. We can then push for silverware next year

its a no brainer its a cup match we enter every year and we are in the best position in the league and a chance to push on

our first team really need a rest you could tell in the last couple of games the energy and pressing levels were way beyond that of a few games ago ten days rest would be great .

its the january transfer window and maybe some of the fringe players thinking of leaving will want to put themselves in the shop window so will play out of their skins or will want to impress claudio .

we can still put out a pretty strong squad really

i wouldnt say that a weak team

have put demari gray in as in todays merc it says we should sign him by the end of the day and he will deffo play sunday

I don't understand threads like this. You realise that we don't have to play both competitions on the same day?

We can do our best in both. Players don't really need a rest for a week unless, like Vardy, they aren't fit.

i know what your saying but i doubt its just about fitness

the league game against spurs a few days later is massive and spurs will know that .

lets say we play mahrez  you can bet your life he will get targetted with fouls and possible injury putting him out of the league game and possibly furthur games down the line .

I would love us to win the FA Cup but I do agree it is time to rest some players

Maybe we need to have more faith and belief in our fringe players?

They did OK in the League Cup!!
