Good finisher and he keeps the presence of Ulloa without slowing us down.

Probably would be a good signing although I have my doubts that he is worth the 15m it would probably take to sign him.

It's probably about right given the fact its January, they don't need to sell him, and everyone knows they can do their best to rip us off.

Thank god for Gray's release cause is all I say!

They don't need to sell him, but they're a selling club for sure.

Something like 700m worth of players sold in the last decade.

He reminds me of Lukaku in the videos I've watched. From what I've read he sounds a perfect fit for our style, he's quick, strong, and he knows where the net is. Would be very happy if we managed to sign him.

Thought exactly the same watching the YouTube vids, make it happen Claudio

It means theyre good at business too then. They seemingly take alot of nearly lads from all over the world and improve most of them, some to the top elite levels (James Rodrigues, Falcao, Jackson Martinez, Danillo & a few more) and the others dont often end up far off, always for big sums with loads of speculation months before anything happens.

Now it could be they simply dont believe he is good enough or right for them and agents have been notified and hes been suggested to a few people but the guy starts every week as their main frontman in a 4-3-3, scoring and is comfortable in the team (one which 9/10 time makes the Champions League) then its crazy if we get him even for 15mil right now.

They're a solid team and strikers are bound to get impressive stats in that league. But it's rated 6th behind La Liga, Bundesliga, Premier League, Ligue 1 and Serie A so it's certainly not an awful division.

They've got a scouting network that pisses all over ours too.

The Portuguese League is definitely good at doing certain things right, the amount of talent that comes through for how low profile it seems is massive, when most think of Portuguese teams its Porto, Benfica, Sporting and maybe Braga, the rest appear are anonymous and have little impact but the talent it brews can be extraordinary. I remember staying up late about 10 years ago when channel4 would put highlights from random leagues on and Portugals was probably the most entertaining out of what was on.

I dont know how they scout talent but I assume they have links in south america and act as a gateway to Europe for alot of raw talent historically.

I've got a feeling this would be a smart signing. Goal record isn't too bad and judging from that video he looks like a good player.

If we are convinced he is a real quality forward (which I think everything points to him being) then I wouldn't have any qualms with us parting with £25mil for him. Porto, like Ajax, are a superb club to buy from. Their turnover from signings alone puts nearly anyone to shame.

Certainly the type of Striker we should be chasing, but maybe a bit risky and pricey at the the prices quoted. Wouldn't  Ighalo be a better option at those prices and he's already a proven Premiership Striker.

Ighalo would be no cheaper.

On second thoughts, it is a bit much, but I stand by if they think he's that good and will improve us, potentially even be the difference between CL qualification, then gamble. We're in the strongest transfer position we have been in to my memory.

It's January. Buying a forward/striker in this window is always without fail at a premium price.

Agree. And we're in a cracking position to spend a decent amount of money. When have we ever had a better reason? 200 million guaranteed next season and a chance of champions league football. Why not spend on a top class player or two?

I'm not complaining, but if people are baulking at some of the prices, then they need to remember that we whilst we don't need to spend money, but if we are going to push on, and make hay whilst the sun is shining, we're going to have to stump up. Sellers market is January.

Exactly. We have to concede that for a top 4 team a player that's going to improve us needs to be top class

I don't understand why people are concerned about what a player costs!

It's not like they're paying for them!

Some people think it's a good idea to get value for money, an amazing concept but there you go.

Some people also remember handing out stupid contracts, buying shit players for large fees, getting relegated, administration and then spending a decade or more getting over it.

If we were midtable just consolidating, sure. With Champs League on the table, it's time to perhaps take a little gamble. We aren't buying Andy Carroll for £35m so I don't think people ought to be too worried. The suggested numbers that have been bandied about aren't that over-the-top - It's January every transfer will be inflated.

Oh god, no! We need a proven Premier League striker that can score us around 10-15 goals until the end of the season. Why take a gamble on someone that will cost so much and might not work out, when Austin's available?
