LegendOfJoe Posted 19 January 2016 Posted 19 January 2016 £31 million is an awful lot in january (or any time of the year) . I'd just wait till the end of the season and if we do manage to get Champions league then we might be able to get him cheaper because the player may want the move a little more and push for it a bit. Probably think we'd be willing to spend around £20 off million if we score Europe
Craig Posted 19 January 2016 Posted 19 January 2016 Sent off for Porto Sunday I was watching it. Two yellows - first was for diving when it was a clear foul, second was for handball when it was hit at him from less than a yard away Very unfortunate.
Wymsey Posted 19 January 2016 Posted 19 January 2016 Buy in the Summer, after receiving the Champions League position cash.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 19 January 2016 Posted 19 January 2016 £30 million is a Man U/Chelsea price, not something we should do. £20 million in the summer, on the other hand, sounds better.
Jaspa Posted 19 January 2016 Posted 19 January 2016 Hes not a Falcao(pre-knee), Hames Rod or a Jackson Martínez and Porto surely know that. Unless I'm reading this wrong and we're entering Chelsea/Monaco/Athletihomo Madrid signing waters and just splerging on 'the best'. From the start I've read this as he's available for whatever reason where we would just have to be sure of chucking 20mil and a starting spot at this.
vulpes0763 Posted 19 January 2016 Posted 19 January 2016 A rocking horse would be a better option than Ulloa. You are talking about a player that helped us stay up! You lot are so fickle . I have lost count of how many of our players are suddenly crap and we are joint top of the league !

Two yellows - first was for diving when it was a clear foul, second was for handball when it was hit at him from less than a yard away Very unfortunate. Watched some of the first half He looked so frustrated playing for a possession 'side to side' passing team. Seemed to me he would thrive playing a quicker type style as we do when breaking forward.
Gerard Posted 19 January 2016 Posted 19 January 2016 We were interested two years a go when he went to Porto for €3m. http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/west-ham-leicester-chasing-lorient-striker-vincent-aboubakar-4027000 It would stick in the throat a bit if we paid anywhere near €40m.

I have lost count of how many of our players are suddenly crap and we are joint top of the league ! Surely that makes total sense - players who were just about good enough for us when we were struggling at the bottom no longer are. We have gone to a different level and players like Ulloa will be left behind.

Top scorer last season and part of the team dynamic, we dont have a player better than him at what he does so we havent got a choice of changing him right now in reality, even if we do sell him this window and get in said Vincent - which could turn out worse. You know what hes about; support him, he can get goals in the Premier League when confident as hes proven
Vindaloo FOX Posted 19 January 2016 Posted 19 January 2016 i think we should close this thread , all striker threads should be closed till we sell a striker only then will one come in .

filbertstreet Posted 20 January 2016 Posted 20 January 2016 Which is what, exactly? Be tall and Argentinian
Jaspa Posted 20 January 2016 Posted 20 January 2016 Which is what, exactly? Do you watch our games? He hassles and pressures defenders, drawing fouls and aggravating them with dirty knocks and collisions, In play hes good at winning headers all over the pitch and is a presence up front, he has popped up with goals for us before and on days this season could probably still win us games. I dont like explaining incredibly simple shit, it feels like youre being pedantic. Youve surely seen him play and do his thing

But he is far too inconsistent, and when he's having one of his ineffective games (which is more often than not nowadays) he offers little to nothing. I want him to succeed as much as anyone, but I just don't think he's got it. I mean christ, can you imagine him in the Champions League?!!?

Thats hypothetical, he could be a star against some teams from other leagues who play differently just the same as how crap he could possibly be. A load of people have jumped up on here since Saturday when he came on as a sub and had little impact but alot brush over the influences he had against Spurs and some of the glimmers of play that he comes out with like that run and some of his defensive work. People are always reactionary to the last game, I'm the same as my opinion on other teams finishing position changes by the week. But jumping on your own players backs and whining when you think they arent good enough or theyre in bad form and probably need their name chanting a couple of times, I just hate to see.

I take your point about him playing differently against different styles of teams. I've certainly though not formed an opinion solely based on Saturday. He's been frustrating me for a while and you actually explain nicely why. We've seen him do some excellent stuff - like recently where he received the ball, took it down and then made an excellent run - but he simply doesn't do it often enough, and you can't tell me he's not had enough game time to be sharp enough. Maybe I'm doing him a disservice - maybe its the way we're playing that doesn't suit him. He's a big lad, but perhaps dealing with long ball after long ball isn't his game - but if that's how we're going to play then we need someones who can deal with that effectively.

I will say that we could improve on him but just not this window for me, he seems to be a big part of the squad. Could be a confidence thing, it could be a tactical thing as to why Leo doesnt come out with his best play and I would love to see more bustling runs and I'd love to see him clambering around the box for headers, but what he does do in aggravating opposing players and doing decent dirty work still works. He could just need supporting to find the net
enmac Posted 20 January 2016 Posted 20 January 2016 Leo has been playing out of position all season. I'm sure he spends more time in our penalty box than the oppostion's. Anyone got the stats?

I have lost count of how many of our players are suddenly crap and we are joint top of the league ! I agree with your sentiment but there is a difference between being good enough to help us survive relegation and being good enough for us to be in the hunt for Europe. Having said that I think Ulloa has shown that he's moving faster than ever before, that he understands our philosophy of closing down defenders and offers us something that we don't have both in atack and defence. He stood out in the Cup game for his continual motion and harassing of defenders. Sadly he is missing some not so difficult chances and we do need him to score when sitters are served up to him on a plate. Maybe that will begin this evening and see him prove the doubters wrong.

Thracian Posted 20 January 2016 Posted 20 January 2016 Leo has been playing out of position all season. I'm sure he spends more time in our penalty box than the oppostion's. Anyone got the stats? Ulloa's a good player. Potentially 15-18 goals a season in a set-up that suits him. Unfortunately our current approach doesn't suit him much - far less than the variable 3-5-2 latterly preferred by Pearson in fact - and I'm fairly sure we're starting to suffer now because of it. Unless we're using two threatening, preferably goalscoring wide men, i'm not in favour of either a lone striker or the one and a half we muster by playing Shinji. It's neither one thing nor the other but more a makeshift system with a little extra insurance against losing. Fuchs actually seems well suited to a three-man back line - particularly if Schlupp were fit - but Ranieri's not going to change and that means four at the back, a packed defence-orientated 4.5-man midfield, and a medical problem up front whoever carries the weight of wearing our number nine shirt. Our problems are arising in not having a satisfactory alternative now that the devastating pace of Schupp is missing and the remarkable sequence of goals from Mahrez seems to have dried up. Why? Because, apart from the half-fit Vardy we don't have anyone else to score or even pose a consistent threat other than Shinji on what I see as a part-time basis - reducing further as he tires.
