Oh god, no! We need a proven Premier League striker that can score us around 10-15 goals until the end of the season. Why take a gamble on someone that will cost so much and might not work out, when Austin's available?

How many games would he play though?  He has been injured off and on all season, which is not unusual for Charlie Austin.

Plus he is out of contract in the summer and will go for nothing.

I`m not convinced he would suit our style of play either.

With our sports science team I'm sure he would pick up less injuries than he has done at QPR, but he's not as injury prone as is reported. Yeah, his contract's up in the summer, but he would be paid better and the whole team are getting the win bonus, so if he signed for us he would be getting paid well. He will score for any team. At this moment in time our only real goal threats are Vardy with Marhez when he's playing well. Austin would be as bigger goal threat as both of them, which would stop the double teaming that's been happening to Vady and Marhez recently. Austin scores the sort of goals we don't score at the moment. He's a natural finisher and he's good in the air, so we might score from a corner now and then. Also if Vardy did get injured we wouldn't score much with out him so I would want a genuine goal treat to be available.

Good luck with that.

15 goals in 18 games is something only Vardy can do. ;)

If we were midtable just consolidating, sure. With Champs League on the table, it's time to perhaps take a little gamble. We aren't buying Andy Carroll for £35m so I don't think people ought to be too worried. The suggested numbers that have been bandied about aren't that over-the-top - It's January every transfer will be inflated.

The question was... "why are people concerned what a player costs", I gave the answer why.

You mean the same Charlie Austin that has only managed 10 goals in the Championship this season?

He's playing in a team that's 16th and is on course for 20 goals in the season... that's a decent return.

Sorry your post suggested you were some of those people.

Whilst historically it's true. There has been no evidence that our current owners and set up are going to replicate this, and if anything have actually learned from some of their errors.

Again, you don't seem to get the point. Yes I am one of "those people", everyone should be one of "those people"... I think the owners are also now "those people".

Why would you not care about getting value for money? We aren't Man City with an endless pot of cash to chuck about and just replace £20m flops with £30m flops and not give a shit. It's imperative for clubs our size to get value, so I care about what we spend.

I also care about what we spend because I've seen the shit storm that can come from it. I'm not saying I don't want to spend money, I'm not saying I don't trust the owners... I'm saying that's why I care, because it CAN cause issues. I bet Leeds fans wish they had cared a bit more and asked questions when they started throwing cash about, and Portsmouth. Again, I'm not saying that's what will happen. I'm saying that's why I do and will always care. That's why everyone should care in some way.

Surely this is a non starter anyway, I love leicester don't get me wrong but why would he want to move to us when he's playing every week for Porto, who are pretty much nailed on to be in the champions league every season. Money?? Yes this may tempt him but can't see this happening

Are you desperate to get your knickers in a twist? I'm not making disparaging comments on 'those people'. Having a level of reasonable cynicism due to what has happened previously is healthy.

I've only stated that the figures mentioned are not astronomical especially as it's a striker in a Jan transfer window so people shouldn't believe we are throwing money around unnecessarily without thinking of the consequences.

Anyone who doesn't care about Leicester getting VFM comes across as ignorant. 100% guilty of ignorance with no defence.

It annoys me that some people think we've have financial resources better than most, we don't, we're about average in this division. If we consistently make poor financial decisions it will sink us eventually.

What business just throws millions around unnecessarily without trying to squeeze as much VFM as they can? Apple wouldn't do it so why should a business as small as LCFC do the same?

I'm getting my "knickers in a twist" as you don't seem to be following the point.

I never replied to anyone quoting figures, I didn't say we were throwing money about without thinking about it, or that the fees were astronomical, I'm not even talking about this transfer in particular, which I appreciate you probably assumed..  I am merely answering a question about why do people care about what's spent.

If we have the money, if the contracts are right, if the scouts think he's the next superstar... we can spent £30m if we want, so long as it has been thought about.

There have been a number of people who commented in the thread stating they were not happy to spend the amount bandied in the media/social media for this player.

Yes you indicated why you think they might be concerned. And yes it's a legitimate concern that we don't go mad with the chequebook with this or any other purchase.

I think it's pretty clear that our owners so far have considered vfm, and have been prudent. In fact the return on their investment in players might well be in profit at this point at time, and should we invest significantly in this window that this will even out over the next few years with a stronger squad and European fixtures to prospectively look fwd to, increased sponsorship etc.

I'd like to hope that given our position we can monopolise on it, and use it to kickstart sonething truly special keeping of course within our means. :)

surely everyone knows English clubs pay better money which will set him up for life.

Regardless of level of football it just makes sense to earn more money.

In 12 starts and 4 sub appearances... hardly a laughable rate is it.

Yet you expect a similar return from him in the Premier League?

That's what is laughable.

18 in 35 for a pretty terrible QPR last season. How come you don't rate him?

No particular opinion about going after Austin, but given that he scored 18 in 35 appearances in the Premier League last year (and for a team that got relegated) why is this 'laughable'?

What's laughable is how some people wouldn't take Austin. Guarantee he will end up at a top 6 prem team at the end of the season.

I never said that I didn't rate him, but expecting 10-15 goals from Austin between now and the end of the season is laughable. It won't happen.

Expecting 10-15 goals from any new striker coming in is laughable, there's only 18 games left.
