Samilktray Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Just been told by the optician that I need glasses. Had a look around and all the 1s I can find look like shit. So what glasses do the fellow blind folk of Foxestak wear?
kingcarr21 Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 My current glasses are Armani which cost me £300. The only reason I spent so much on them was so it would make me wear them. If you know you need them then you will always put them on regardless of price. I knew I wouldn't wear mine (I wore them as a child then stopped between ages 16-25, the wife tells me I look better with them on so I got some new ones.) so I brought expensive ones. I now need new glasses and the Armani name has worn off on the side of my glasses so I wont be buying really expensive ones again. Take your time in choosing a style. Its all down to the shape of your head. Always take a partner/friend with you when choosing for a 2nd opinion. You will know instantly whether a style suits you or not. Make sure YOU are happy with them otherwise you simply wont wear them (obvious I know). You will tell yourself you will look after them, always put them in the case, strip and clean them etc but you wont. So I wouldn't waste your money on really expensive frames like I did. Just not worth it. I prefer more of a rectangle frame to a round frame but try on loads. Also make sure the bridge isn't too tight. The rubber pieces can pick up all kinds of dirt and dead skin especially if they're too tight but the optician will adjust the glasses for you anyway. After this long post and reading it back im not sure if its helpful at all
pSinatra Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 I have to wear glasses for reading (+2.00), but I won't pay optician prices. I just get them 'off the peg' for about £10 to £20 a pair. I've bought them from Boots & Sainsburys before. The ones I currently use were from John Lewis. A lot of places sell them but the styles tend to cater for women more than men & not a lot of variety. Cost me £20, easily replaceable when I eventually sit on them & I actually think they suit me ok
leicsmac Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Daesong Elite rimless, for the equivalent of about £30. Eyecare is one of the things Korea does remarkably well - walked into a local opticians, had my eyetest done within ten minutes then they called me the following day to say the specs were ready. Given my eyesight I have to wear them all the time.
goose2010 Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 if you know your prescription try glasesforless.co.uk loads on there and a lot cheaper. I have two pairs quicksilver black framed ones that are a bit oversized as I tend to look under and over my others which kind of defeats the object and have some Tommy Hilfiger ones for at home and going out. Both from spec savers when they were BOGOF
Guest MattP Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Ted Baker, although I havn't worn them for a while. Kept them though as I'll need them when I get older.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Some free ones that our electrician fished out of a box when working in the premises of an Optician's that had gone to the wall. I did pay £30 to get the right lenses put in, I'm not that tight
SystonFox Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 I've currently got some Armani frames. Cost me £40 from spec savers as I am on the contact lens direct debit scheme so my frames are subsidised. The guy who spent £300 on some? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING I'm picking up a new set of Replay frames, £35. Look identical to my Armani ones to be fair but they're broken beyond repair.

I'm with the guy, if you are going to be a four eyes you might as well be a pricey four eyes.
AndWhat? Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 I wear contact lenses every second I am awake as I look like a div in glasses. So when I went to pick my glasses up I let the lady in Specsavers chose them! She didn't do a bad job to be fair
Crinklyfox Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 My current specs are Jaeger titanium. I have a second pair (always useful in case you break your specs, especially on holiday) which are Calvin Klein. At my age I don't care about designer names on the frames, the greatest asset of my Jaeger frames are that being titanium they are very light. Please also consider coatings on the lenses. You can get an anti-reflective coating which cuts down on reflections on the lenses seen by others and makes it less obvious that you're wearing specs, especially if you choose rimless or half frames.
SystonFox Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 I'm with the guy, if you are going to be a four eyes you might as well be a pricey four eyes. Madness. Utter madness. Each to their own though I suppose
Samilktray Posted 8 January 2016 Author Posted 8 January 2016 Are anti-glare lenses worth it? Optician recommended them for when driving but a few people I've spoke to mentioned they thought it was a gimmick
Guest MattP Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Are anti-glare lenses worth it? Optician recommended them for when driving but a few people I've spoke to mentioned they thought it was a gimmick Gimmick, they are usually on commission to sell these.
goose2010 Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Are anti-glare lenses worth it? Optician recommended them for when driving but a few people I've spoke to mentioned they thought it was a gimmick Total gimmick my first ever pair I had hard wearing glass and anti glare cost me about an extra 70-80 quid and no were no better than my other pair.
Vicki Vixen Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Just been told by the optician that I need glasses. Had a look around and all the 1s I can find look like shit. So what glasses do the fellow blind folk of Foxestak wear? http://airows.com/lifestyle/american-psycho-style-glasses-from-oliver-peoples
Sharpe's Fox Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 I only ever wear mine with a cardigan and a scowl if I want to put across a conflicted and grizzled intellectual vibe, think Michael Caine in Educating Rita.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 I've got two pairs of specsavers ones. http://www.specsavers.co.uk/glasses/calzaghe Thats one of them. I wear them religious at the moment. Been wearing glasses for 2 years now as my distance vision is awful.
MikeyT Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 Just been told by the optician that I need glasses. Had a look around and all the 1s I can find look like shit. So what glasses do the fellow blind folk of Foxestak wear? I wear glasses full time now and have done for the past 2 years. Although fed up now. Specsavers offer a free contact lens trial which I am taking up on Wednseday. Maybe worth a think if you don't mind sticking your fingers in your eye? Not sure if any other opticians offer free contact lens trials.
Dr The Singh Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 DKNY, Armarni, brought them from the US and glazed them here. So much cheaper, £200 over here, laid just over £80
AKCJ Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 My glasses are black, thick rimmed and a completely unknown brand. Cost me about 80 quid and do the same job as a similar looking 800 quid pair. Can't get my head around why people want to spend a fortune on them. Fair enough for build quality (I often fall asleep in mine and they're in as good condition as they were when I bought them about 4 years ago). Never had anyone ask what brand they are. I couldn't tell you if I wanted to to be honest.
Len Finsbury Posted 8 January 2016 Posted 8 January 2016 I wear contact lenses when I'm out but for at home I bought a cheap pair from glasses direct. Good service actually, they let you order four pairs of frames at a time so you can try them on before ordering. All free of course... unless you don't return them!
