foxfanazer Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 This is just a thread about how other teams fans react to you when you tell them you support Leicester. I work in a bookies so I pretty much talk about football all day at work. When asked it usually goes something like this Them 'who do you support ' Me 'Leicester city' Them 'oh yeah, just this season? ' Me 'no I was there when we were shit' Them 'you're having a great season, would be brilliant to see someone like you win it' Me 'yeah I'd just be happy with top 6 to be honest' (downplaying it big time) I get people praising me as well asnig I've had some part in it
HighPeakFox Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 I work in Derbyshire so I get a somewhat mixed reaction! Slightly bored of having to point out that the 'you don't have the squad' platitude is actually rubbish.....
bovril Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 In the UK I've had a lot of kind words from supporters of less-fashionable teams. Even my Forest-supporting family members are grudgingly glad to see someone else at the top. Amazing how bitter some of the 'fans' of the top clubs are. I think deep down a lot of people are disappointed our bubble hasn't burst yet. Being abroad when I say I support Leicester now I get quite a few cheers and pats on the back. Our style of play has won us a lot of admirers.
stevelcfc Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Being at uni there's fans of every team around and all of supporters of other clubs apart from the big 4 are hoping that we keep it up. Also getting board of the you'll crash and burn soon statement, especially as we now mid Jan. The Arsenal 'fans' were far from impressed at last nights happenings. It's getting to the stage now where we are also becoming peoples second teams. Basically we are MASSIVE.
Jimbo Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 The only thing that annoys me about it is the amount of people who now accuse me of being a fan just because we are having a good season. And last season, just because we were premier league. 20 years I've had my season ticket, 20 long years, most of which haven't been great! Of course to me, this season alone is worth those 20 years. The league 1 title was worth it, the championship title was worth it. Working in Coventry, there's a few waiting for us to trip up, but even most of this lot are hoping we can keep it up. One lad, who's a big Cov fan is quite complimentary towards us. I just think he's loving the fact that Villa are on the way down and Cov are challenging for promotion!
vicfarm7 Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Im also at uni and again theres a fan for every team. All but the arsenal fans are hoping we win it. I say ill take top 4. Even most of the man utd fans are temporary lcfc fans just because they cant stand city or arsenal
Jakemoore Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Bet you weren't a fan when you were shit. This is all I ever hear. I was there when we played in League 1!

tom27111 Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 None of my mates support us, most of them are glory supporters for United, Liverpool and the like. A couple are genuine supporters of Villa and Newcastle, I'm loving winding them up right now! But, I've just moved towns, everyone I meet always asks me who I support. I've only been here since September and I almost feel guilty or paranoid saying Leicester. They seem to think I've jumped on the bandwagon! A brief explanation that my first game was in 1988, when you could practically choose any seat in the stadium seems to put them in their place.
Aus Fox Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 My local cafe owner is. Chinese man, I walked in this morning and he shouts across the busy cafe; we won again! Spurs are rubbing! We going to win the league! Brilliant he's now a bigger city fan than I am!
ozleicester Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 today...overtook a car with an Arsenal sticker on the back... and then pulled in front of it at the lights so he could see my city sticker and he would be jusssst behind me. no interaction.. but i thought it funny
Fox on the edge Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 You should try living and working in Stoke. Actually. No you shouldn't, but no one wants us to do well. It's all, were a small club, we don't play without our best two and it's going to end soon. I've been hearing this since August. Every other fan of every other team wants us to win it. Even the Tottenham fan.

Guest Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 If we are successful this year then we will all be seen as johnny come lately glory hunters. Also some of the new fans will be even less forgiving when we don't win every game and part-time glory hunting fans will question everything in a negative light. I've been a big fan of the Miami Heat since they were formed and happily followed them through all the lows of many years. I was incredibly happy when "we" beat the Mavs for our first championship but since Lebron arrived and "we" went to 4 finals winning 2 the whole fan base has changed and few believe you've followed them since time immemorial. I'm really hoping for sustained Leicester success but I'll miss the days of being a member of a small group of supporters who really knew how each other felt.

There’s no doubt that this season really has changed the way that the club is viewed. We are now definitely a ‘bigger’ club than we were six months ago. However, it would take years of continued success (plus a title) to significantly change the club into an Everton or a Spurs. Look at Blackburn. They won the title fairly recently, and for a few years it wasn’t uncommon to see ‘fans’ swanning around in Blackburn shirts the way you see fans wearing Chelsea shirts these days. But the shirts quickly got charity-shopped when Blackburn returned to their natural level. We’ll probably return to our natural level at some point in the future. The Thais won’t be around for ever.
possiblygeorge Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 I've never been interrogated for why i support a Club until our recent success. Back in June some guy was trying to tell me we are s**t...

I'm a Knicks fan so not a glory hunter at all. This time last year it wasn't good being a city or knicks fan but things are looking up. I now live on the Isle of Wight and lots want city to win the league. Still can't beat going in the pub to watch a match and being the only city fan there but still jumping up when we score as the rest of the pub is quiet.

I went the other way, my team were the Seattle Supersonics and now they dont even exist (Oklahoma Thunder can **** right off).

Wycombe Fox Posted 15 January 2016 Posted 15 January 2016 Looking at other teams' results from a different perspective has been quite strange this year. Last year, and probably every other year we've been in the top flight since I started supporting City in 1968, I was looking for the top teams to beat the lower teams. It's completely the opposite this season. I've been looking at the fans forums for other teams and we seem to have a lot of support, even amongst the traditional 'top four'. Amazing really.
