Sam McMahon, watched him dominate in midfield for the reserves against man u in front of nearly 20,000 fans at filbert street and couldn't wait for his breakthrough into the first team. Whatever happened to him?

Apparently, according to the all knowing Wiki, he retired in 2008 after a season at Stamford and is now a school teacher at Judgemeadow Community College.

Thanks. I can't understand how he never made it he looked superb, though I seem to have some vague memory of an injury? If so maybe that done for him.

Wesolowski and Tomi Petrescu were awesome on Football Manager

Weirdly I was talking to someone about Tomi Petrescu yesterday lol

Panayitou? Everyone thought he was going to be a regular after playing and scoring at Leeds at just 17.

Now he's 21 and hasn't played since

Still wasting his time knocking around the under 21 league, Needs to get playing mens football.

Paul Reid on the wing. Didn't Stuart Pearce get sent off for hacking down Reid at Filbert Street? Pearce took him out twice, both were red card offences but he only got a yellow each time. Reid was never quite the same again after that.

Loan player, but I was convinced Miguel Vitor would go on to become a top defender - like, international class. He's now wasting away in Greece.

Can remember quite a few people buzzing about Levi Porter lol

What happened to him? Matty Piper was an exciting prospect

Was he not caught out for stealing from the other players? Wes Brown put dye on some of them 'pound notes' and Porter ended up being sacked for it (or so I seem to remember being told). Don't take my word for it though, I may have been horribly misinformed, haha. Last I heard he was playing for Oadby or something like that.

There have been so many hailed as the next great thing over the years that have come through the ranks and for one reason or another it just didn't happen.

Who can you think of as the one who was supposed to make it but never did? For me James Wesolowski had the best chance in my list and but for Injurys i think would have made a great player. Lets hope the boy Cilwell turns out better than this lot.

Russell Holt

Guy Branston

Joe Mattock

George Taft

Richard Stearman

James Wesolowski

Am i the only one that doesn't know the difference between Steff Oakes and Scott Oakes?

Saw Steve Corica make his debut for us Port Vale away. Looked like the next Bryan Robson, no exaggeration!

I think Corica made his debut away at Sunderland on the opening day of the season, scored a goal and look quality.

They weren't twins.

No mention of Stan Collymore? Given he was already a name, but in terms we had a brief flash of his potential and then...

That Smith lad from Arsenal. Ryan was it?

I always thought Tommy Wright would be huge. Had absolutely nothing to back it up other than he was our best young player. Which is scary in hindsight.

Dave Buchanan - a great start to his career but then blighted by injuries

Jo Waters - an incredible double in the FA Cup Quarter final away at QPR, but then went onto play for Grimsby

Ian Andrews - PEN 3 sang 'England's  number one, England's England's number one..' and so it seemed for a time, but he then lost his way

Robert Jones - Great start to his career with a vital goal away to Oldham in the penultimate game of the promotion season in 1983, but withered away
