mancunianfox Posted 29 January 2016 Posted 29 January 2016 I'm all for investing in youth but that's not really what the Jan Window is for - it should be for instant impact signings and strengthening for the latter part of the season. This doesn't fit the bill for me at all, if we got him alongside someone else then fair enough but we need more than this. January isn’t a bad time to sign young players as long as the club is well run so they don’t need them to make a huge impact straight away. Gives players a bit of time to settle in and get accustomed to being at a new club ready to hit the ground running in the Summer. Personally, I think the worst time to sign players is after you have completed pre-season. As mentioned, Mahrez is a very good example of this.

Mahrez was quite young when we signed him in January a couple of years ago, maybe we shouldn't have done. Pedant. You know what I'm saying. It's January - there are much bigger priorities than taking a risk on a young kid who hasn't done an awful lot.
