purpleronnie Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 I have a mate who is a Hereford fan and was noticed they are now in the same league as Loughborough University. Incredible change of fortunes for both teams. But that's a different Hereford....its the phoenix club founded after they went bust. They were placed in that division rather than falling through the leagues like Stockport have.
Corky Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 Doubt it. Someone will have done it. Players like Steve Bruce that came from the lower leagues will have achieved something similar. Not with the same club though.
Jakemoore Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 Not sure Dyer could've been a part of this, it wasn't his choice. He wasn't much use in his last season here. Dyers last season for us was for me, his best by far. And it culminated in the title clinching goal! Can't believe how far we have come. Astonishing when you actually look at it.
act smiley Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 David Martin Kerrea Gilbert Michael Morrison Jack Hobbs Bruno Berner Matt Oakley Andy King Tom Cleverley Lloyd Dyer Steve Howard Matty Fryatt Am I correct in saying that was our first 11 that season? To be honest, other than Howard, Fryatt, Hobbs, Dyer, King and Oakley, there wasn't really much of a fixed 11 and even then, Oakley varied between usually being right midfield and sometimes playing centrally if Gradel started. The lineup you mentioned is as good as any (seems like one from around March-ish after Tunchev got injured?). Goalkeeper was a series of loan players (Stockdale, Martin, Warner and Bunn) but I think you're right in saying that Martin played the most. Left-back got rotated depending on whether Berner was playing holding midfield or not (Mattock and Powell both played quite often), Right-back (Morrison played there about half the time), centre-back was mostly Hobbs/Tunchev in the first part of the season then after his injury Hobbs/Morrison for a bit before ending as Hobbs/Brown and the midfield got changed up a lot with Davies/Berner/Cleverley/Oakley all playing there. Could name a bunch of different combinations really.

Vicki Vixen Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 Me too, I was just wondering the other day how Lloyd Dyer is feeling, he could have been a part of this and now he is... ...Watford reserves? Not played a minute of football this season. We offered him a 1 yr contract in summer 2014, there is no way his contract would have been renewed in 2015.
Captain... Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 We offered him a 1 yr contract in summer 2014, there is no way his contract would have been renewed in 2015. Why not? He would have played a part last season if he was here, when we went on our winless run he would have been used at some point even if only out of desperation. Pace is one the thing he had and the one thing that can make a difference at any level, his pace on the break would have meant he would have been useful to keep around, especially the way we play now. Players don't always perform as expected, look at Vardy and Drinkwater, who would have thought they would be playing like this a few seasons ago, Dyer could have stepped up, or he could have gone shit. We'll never know, but if I was Dyer right now I would be sitting looking at the table thinking what if...

A player that cannot make it in the Championship or a mid table PL side (Watford) is not going to suddenly become a fixture in a side leading the PL table.

A player that cannot make it in the Championship or a mid table PL side (Watford) is not going to suddenly become a fixture in a side leading the PL table. At no point have I said he would have been a fixture here, but there was certainly room in the squad last season, and seeing as we only have 23 in the squad at the moment there is room this season. What happened at Watford is not a guarantee of what would have happened here, he started on the bench for them last season, got into a spat with the manager, abused him after scoring and got farmed out on loan to Birmingham. That wouldn't have happened had he stayed here, nobody knows what would have happened, he could have had an impact last season and could have been offered an extension, he could easily still be a Leicester player and enjoying this ride rather than doing fvck all at Watford.

And Norrköping. Craig King is at Bradford Park Avenue. You're correct about Levi Porter being in Barcelona, but I've heard he's more into plying his trade on Las Ramblas and in the subway.

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 You should point out how dramatically Stockport have fallen, National League North. For a club like that to end up in regional football is beyond travesty. The gulf between where they are and where we are should be noted, and if memory serves me right we didn't beat them here or at Edgeley Park.I imagine their demise and Crewe's struggles (plus other clubs in that region) probably correspond with a change in the youth structures at the top clubs in that area.Back in the day when United, Liverpool etc, trained a lot of local youth talent, these clubs would pick up the cast offs who were reasonably decent players, whereas now, the youth teams are made up of all nationalities and from all parts, so if they don't make they don't necessarily stick around in that area. They're also producing better quality youth players to a degree, so they're more likely to look for more established / higher level clubs that your Crewe's, Stockports, Bury's etc - we just happen to have a few perfect examples of this in our squad.
Koke Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 David Martin Kerrea Gilbert Michael Morrison Jack Hobbs Bruno Berner Matt Oakley Andy King Tom Cleverley Lloyd Dyer Steve Howard Matty Fryatt Am I correct in saying that was our first 11 that season? Decided to also look at our 2010/11 squad. Some of the guys we had I had completely forgotten they were on our books, whether on loan or permanently. Patrick van Aanholt Michael Lamey - I honestly cannot remember him actually playing for us. Diomansy Kamara Leon Crncic - still need proof of his existence. Moreno - another one I can't remember what he looked like. When we look at the signings Allen, Holloway, Sousa and Sven made it just shows how good Pearson and his team were in spotting a player.
Koke Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 What was the name of that ginger lad we had? Played a few games for us, put in one or two phenomenal crosses, and then left. He was left wing or left back, I can't remember.

filbertstreet Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 Did about as much as ricky sappleton (where's he at now?) Absolutely killing it in the Ryman league (8th tier I think?)
mohammedsaqib Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 So, if we win the title, Andy King will have a winner's medal for all three divisions. Is that unique? Thought I'd read that he'd played for us at both our highest ever position (1st in Prem) and lowest ever (6th in League One). Not sure I can think of any other players who've done that for any club?
MC Prussian Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 Thought I'd read that he'd played for us at both our highest ever position (1st in Prem) and lowest ever (6th in League One). Not sure I can think of any other players who've done that for any club? I guess you're right. I first went for the Manchester City team from 1998/1999, but even goalkeeper Nicky Weaver didn't go further than 14th spot in the Premier League (in 2006/2007).
Koke Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 Relegation season? Johnny Hayes. Did about as much as ricky sappleton (where's he at now?) That's him. We were really scraping at the bottom of the barrel back then.

OriginalRobboFOX Posted 4 February 2016 Posted 4 February 2016 That's him. We were really scraping at the bottom of the barrel back then. He scored the 1st for Aberdeen last night as they beat Celtic 2-0
