Grewks Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 Does it really make sense for a fan of a club not challenging for the title to back and support Leicester? Of course it is great to have someone different, but overnight the traditional top 6 would become the top 7....making it even tougher for clubs like Palace to break into the top 4.
HighPeakFox Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 Or, it indicates a more level playing field (for now), where anyone can potentially finish up there given the right mentality and set-up.
Webbo Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 I don't think anyone thinks we're going to be permanent fixtures in the top 4. If we can win the title there are at least 10 other sides of a similar size who'll believe they have a chance too.
Vacamion Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 I don't think anyone thinks we're going to be permanent fixtures in the top 4. If we can win the title there are at least 10 other sides of a similar size who'll believe they have a chance too. Given where we have come from, I would say there are 60 odd sides who will dream they could do what we have done (not that we'be achieved anything yet).
st albans fox Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 Of course it does For us to finish in the top four means every fan of every club our size can dream again. That every fan of every club our size can look at their management/ownership structure and ask why they can't achieve what we have. If we fall away now then that dream falls away with us. Not just our dream, but potentially everyone's dream. (Outside the biggest clubs with the biggest budgets). if we win the title then the dream is even more achievable.
J.Lisemore Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 It does yeah, the bottom line is that most neutrals want to see a side made up of next to no money, topple the big boys. Gives hope to every club in the Premier League that it can be done without spending billions.

Of course it is great to have someone different, but overnight the traditional top 6 would become the top 7....making it even tougher for clubs like Palace to break into the top 4. For me yes it definitely does. Why? Because the plausible pursuit of glory is what drives the passion that makes sport so good. That is particularly so (in my opinion) with football and football supporters and has been for about 130 years. It didn't start when the Premier league did no matter what the marketeers and media try and push at us (mostly). For all that is good in football at the moment and there is a lot, the domination of money, the (almost) certainty of who from a pre-determined group of so called elite are going to win, the attempts, some pathetic and some very real, to reinforce the hegemony of those clubs that have been at the top for just 20 of those 130 years or have very wealthy backers and the smug self indulgent and biased media are all reasons why I want some body to smash through that like a freight train. I want to believe that glory is achievable. If its not then what is the point of competitive sport. Take a Norwich, or Middlesbrough, or Wolves or any number of good local clubs similar to ourselves with good passionate 'real' fans - if it was the other way around i would be shouting my self hoarse in support
Benji Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 Of course. For the traditional top four or five it means that if their team doesn't win the title neither do their rivals (I imagine Chelsea fans are loving our run the most right now). For the rest it's an inspiration that anything can happen. I think there's also merit in what Webbo says, this season is seen very much as a one off and we're not going to be top four contenders for years to come. I'm certainly seeing this as a complete one off amazing opportunity.
I blame Wellens Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 Need help understanding what a 'neutral' is. Thought you only got them in Rugby. Dislike all other teams. And don't get me started on the idea of a 2nd team.
Koke Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 If we do win the title then Wenger and LVG should immediately be given their P45. We are a mid sized Premier League club similar to Southampton, Norwich and West Brom. For us to win the title and for Arsenal or Man Utd to fail yet again is totally unacceptable considering the difference in club size, budget, salaries etc. What excuses do Wenger have if we win the league? A Liverpool fan said the other day that if Leicester win the title it will show how much Liverpool have been mismanaged in the last 20 years. It's embarrassing for them. However, for the rest of the league it'd be an inspiration and im sure they'd want us to win bar the usual suspects of course.
foxychik Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 I don't think it's just clubs outside the title challengers- I've spoken to a couple of Arsenal fans recently that want us to do it if they don't - they see it as a good thing for football in general and seem genuinely pleased for us.

We've made Man Utd look stupid with how much they've spent on a bang average squad.
Lestoh Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 It gives a neutral hope. Only a few seasons ago we were a bang average Championship team, and at the same time the Premier League top 4 was reserved for the usual suspects with their financial backing. If we can make it, anyone can.
jim5000 Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 Every neutral I've heard speak about Leicester wants us to win the league, even some Man Utd fans. Leicester are making the top of the league exciting this year and giving teams hope that they can do the same. We've broken the mold that has existed for the past 10 years!
Guest ttfn Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 No way I'd be as magnanimous about, say, Stoke or West Brom being top of the league. I've been genuinely surprised by the warmth of so many supporters.
Captain... Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 Top be honest we don't need to win the title to show that but it will help. What we, and other 'smaller' clubs have done this season is destroy the aura surrounding the big clubs. Last season Southampton and West Ham nearly did it, Everton and Villa spent years trying to do it, Palace and Watford were doing it this season but fell away. Football is a simple game of 11 vs 11, but Man U and Arsenal have always had that aura of being better and there is nothing you can do about it other than park the bus and hope for the best, Chelsea and Man City have bought that aura spending enough money on players managers and just shameless self promotion to make people believe they are better. This is where so many games are won before a ball has been kicked. Teams are mentally beaten before kick off and just succumb to the inevitable. Moyes destroyed that invincibility at United and LVG despite all his posturing can't get it back because without Ferguson to hide behind you look at those players and think we can get at them. Mourinho's implosion at Chelsea has done the same, you don't see Hazard as the player of the year you just see him as an average footballer who can be stopped without coming up with specific plans for him. Man City's inability to cope without Aguero or Kompany and most people waking up to the fact Arsene Wenger seems determined to sabotage any chances they have of winning the title so that leaves an opportunity if anyone wants to take it. It should really be Spurs or Liverpool with hipster manger of choice, but it isn't it is an Averahe Joe side, a team that has come from nowhere and everybody loves an underdog story. We haven't bought superstars but we have bought intelligently and created a team based on hard work and team spirit that is so much better than the sum of its parts and it can be emulated. We may fade away next year and the hype around city and Pep will mean they will be everyone's favourite for the title the status quo will return but while we are at the top of the table everyone will want us to win because it will mean that it could be them next year, it won't but it gives everyone hope.
TrentFox Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 Travel the country a lot with work. Meet a lot of people who support just about every team under the sun. Virtually all have adopted is as their second team. It's fabulous that they can talk to me about my team and they know soooooo much about us, our owners, our fans and our players. But, as many have alluded to, I'm sure it's because we have shifted the belief that only four teams can compete in the upper echelons of this league. That might prove to be right. But whilst we are there, everyone can dream a little more expansively. Long may it continue. If we were mid-table and Bournemouth were top, I'd be deparate for them to keep on winning and socking it to the big boys.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 Really wanted City to win it as a neutral back in 2012. Was so happy they won and beat Utd to it. Our story is a little different obviously but can understand why other clubs fans want us to win
Ozwin Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 The cynic in me can't help think the FA will get scared and push referees to not give us decisions and such to keep the status quo as it should be.
Webbo Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 The cynic in me can't help think the FA will get scared and push referees to not give us decisions and such to keep the status quo as it should be. Ridiculous.
WesMorganGod Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 It gives everyone hope that their small club can do it.
The Doctor Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 No way I'd be as magnanimous about, say, Stoke or West Brom being top of the league. I've been genuinely surprised by the warmth of so many supporters. If Tony Pulis was a title challenging manager then I'd be out of football, because it'd be clearly sounding its death knell.
fuchsntf Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 The cynic in me can't help think the FA will get scared and push referees to not give us decisions and such to keep the status quo as it should be. Think about what you just posted... If city do go on and win it, or get top 4, it would be welecomed by the FA/PL, it would show the world that they have a top competitive league, that sells itself. The soccer fanatics around the world, will be dying to get to see these next to 2 games
Grewks Posted 6 February 2016 Author Posted 6 February 2016 I understand that it gives 'smaller clubs hope'....but it also increase our clubs stature to a position where we are another hurdle for these smaller clubs to overcome.
Hibernian 1875 Posted 6 February 2016 Posted 6 February 2016 It makes perfect sense for neutrals to want Leicester to win the title. It gives all the fans of all the real clubs, supported by real supporters up and down the country belief that they too can emulate the success. It breathes fresh life in to a predictable, often boring competition. We've not seen a real football club win the title since Blackburn\Leeds over 20 years ago (you could argue for Man City too, but they've become a bloated, loathsome, money monster). In Scotland it's been over 30 years, and the pattern is repeated in many European leagues. Football is about the underdog. The big dream. David and Goliath. It's pantomime - 'behind you' Today the pantomime villain is Man City, and Leicester is the swashbuckling, handsome young hero. I'll be watching the Leicester boys and sending all positive energies and prayers for you guys. I'm a Hibs fan living in Sao Paulo and I can tell you EVERYONE here is talking about and wanting Leicester to do the business !! Good luck.
