hlz Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 Steve Walsh is the main man, we know this. But a lot of people are basically coming to the conclusion that as long as we keep him all is okay. But the fact is that Wrigglesworth will have a huge list of players that we are scouting and are looking to sign in the upcoming seasons. This is why he was placed on gardening leave and unable to join another club until after the January transfer window had ended. We've known for sometime he will be joining arsenal, but it's only been made official now the transfer window has ended. Arsenal probably can't persuade Walsh to join, but have got our 'head of technical scouting'. I wouldn't be surprised to see Arsenal sign a few of our targets in the upcoming windows. I also imagine Wenger and there coaching team will be asking him about our players and any potential weaknesses ahead of this Sunday, huge loss in my opinion this is.

That's part of the life of being a successful team. He'll have had an understudy who can replace him, I'd hope.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 We'll probably never know if any of arsenals future signings were targets of ours or not

Plus Arsenal are more adept at signing known players rather than taking risks on French second division players.
Finnegan Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 He looks about twelve years old. I'm guessing he's a sports science graduate from Loughborough who watches games of players the actual scouts have found? I'm sure he's very good at his job but I highly doubt our scouting team is going to fall apart because we've lost a lad and his imac.

The same could have been said of Rob Mac, but we still signed Kante and Fuch etc.
FantasticMrFuchs Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 wasn't the same said when the other fella went spurs last season.

I understand your point, but the fact is he knows the database and players we have been scouting for a long time. Why would our club go to so much effort to stop him joining Arsenal in January?
Jimbo Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 He basically watches videos of players and opposition to confirm what has already been seen. He's no different to half the posters on here who put up youtube videos every time we're linked with a player

He was part of the scouting Team He was a data analysist He wasn't poached he offered his services to all the big london clubs through a recruitment company He is no great loss !

Fox92 Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 If that's the case then why did we not let him join arsenal until the transfer window ended? Should have waited an extra week until we have played them.
Guest Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 If that's the case then why did we not let him join arsenal until the transfer window ended? You don't knowingly give a rival team an advantage in a window as important as the one just closed. He may well know all of our targets but Arsenal aren't just going to go out and build Leicester City MKII. Their manager quite clearly has a philosophy and it's pretty different from ours
stevelcfc Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 I don't think Ben has been with the club since November which would make obvious sense. Ollie Waldron is now the new head of technical and has been running that for a few months now having previously been Ben's assistant. The club are now after a new assistant to Ollie. The way it is run usually, is each region has a scout, how in turn has scouts working for him, all of which gets fed back to the club and the it gets analysed by the head of..., the short-list is then compiled and Walsh does his magic.
dbtcity Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 I personally don't think having a list of players that we've been scouting will be of much use to Spurs or Arsenal, I'd have thought players that have been seriously scouted would have been scouted as they'd suit our style philosophy etc
Guest Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 If that's the case then why did we not let him join arsenal until the transfer window ended? That's not really a tough question is it? rhetorical perhaps?

This has been a huge trick all along, Ben has been asked by our club to scout duff players for the past year so that when Arsenal came sniffing for Walsh they took what they thought was the next best thing in Wrigglesworth. However, his list he's got is the pits and Arsenal will finish 14th next season with Garri Baldi up front.

Captain... Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 No he won't. Arsenal will be looking to him to set-up a similar data analysis team, basically help them to replicate the system we have now. That is not to poach our targets, but help them find their targets. The success of our system has been in finding the right players for us, Arsenal will be looking to find the right players for them. It is no loss to us, but a gain for Arsenal if it is an improvement on their current system, which seeing as they don't buy anyone is probably covered in cobwebs and running off a BBC Archimedes, with all the data on 12" floppy disks. They want to copy our system not steal our targets.
Ric Flair Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 Arsenal will be getting an ice chamber next........... in fact it astounds me they haven't completely re-evaluated their sports science philosophy. It can't be a coincidence that every season they have the most horrendous injury list and even when they sign players who have never been injury prone before they become injury prone within a year of being there. It's unforgiveable.
SpacedX Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 I wouldn't be surprised to see Arsenal sign a few of our targets in the upcoming windows. You overlook the fact that this would require Arsene Wenger to actually spend some of the quarter of a billion at his disposal.
yorkie1999 Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 Surely he wouldn't be allowed to take data with him apart from whats in his head.

They were/are due to get one during their training facilities upgrade: http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20150303/academy-redevelopment Completion date is 2017 so it may not be there yet.

Post's like this and posts about the details of ongoing transfer deals are nothing but pure speculation no one knows what is going on behind closed doors at the club. He could be a huge loss he could be a massive bell end and its a relief for all the other scouts that he has gone no one knows for sure.
