Is our lack of games really beneficial?

Recommended Posts

With a two week gap between the Arsenal and Norwich game, players given a week off to go away. Whilst our competitors for the title have games to remain 'match fit ', is our lack of competitive games a good thing?

I very much doubt that they will lose any match fitness by having a game off.

The break will benefit the likes of Vardy, Drinkwater - both of whom have had minor injury issues.

Definitely beneficial. Certainly when Tottenham and Arsenal will have 2 games a week for a period.

Sky sports showed the distance the top 4 will travel in the remainder of Feb. Ours is 0 miles whilst others are racking up thousands. It's not just the fatigue either, it's having time to solely focus on the next opponent.

Of course it is.

We have a team that largely picks itself - keeping injury-free is paramount to our chances.

Could have a negative effect, or the players could come back refreshed, raring to go and fitter than their rivals in the run-in. Depends if your glass is half full or half empty, I suppose.

But winning games breeds confidence? That could benefit our rivals.

Yeah. The first XI has been pretty much the same all season, so a break is ideal. We looked a bit jaded over Christmas, and improved when the fixture list congestion passed. I'm sure our lack of games will be an advantage for us.

I think if you look at the slip ups we have had - Villa and Bournemouth - these were in the middle of the gruelling festive run of fixtures. I think we'll be fine, and of course I don't count the game on Sunday as a slip up.

What he said.

100% a good thing-glad we're sending them on holiday too-try to keep the glare and favourites tag off them...

At this stage of this season it's a big advantage.

The players aren't going to lose fitness due to a week's break. In fact they will probably come back hungrier to play football having missed it all.

Tottenham have got to play four games in eleven days now. Three days after that they go to West Ham in the league, and three days after that they host Arsenal.

In the same time we have a week's break, then two home games against bottom half clubs and then a trip to Watford.

To be fair, if Spurs win both those league games then they will deserve to be up there with us as potential Champions. But I know which schedule i'd rather have.

Depends if they spend the next 10 days brooding over the Arsenal result, or whether they spend it resting and recuperating ready for a fight against Norwich. I don't think this team are one to spend too much time worrying about the past.

I reckon we'll hit Norwich with an intensity we haven't seen since the Stoke game.

That is the only possible downside that it comes after a defeat in that manner, and it gets to people, seeing Spus, Arsenal and Man City having tough games in Europe and the FA Cup while we put our feet up will boost the lads, even if  Spurs, Arsenal and Man City win it will boost the boys on knowing they have to be at their best.

It really should  be beneficial, but we will see the reality when we face Norwich.

I think it's very beneficial to have less games and a two week break. We will be the miost refreshed side in the top four and with less games means less chance of players getting injured. We will be absolutely buzzing for the Norwich game.

Generally rest is a good thing for teams, any team. The difficulty many teams have had, is too many games. Just look at Real Madrid as an example. They won CL but lost La Liga to the lesser Atletico.

But what if Vardy takes the week off to gorge on carrot cakes and apple pie he might come back weighing 15 stone ha ha ha apple pie til i die!

Means he'd put on about 6 stone. Looks like a half-starved vampire

Slightly beneficial, but I don't see it being a massive factor, to be honest.

I'm sure people will interpret it either way, depending on the result next week.

I think there's a balance. 4 games a fortnight constantly is going to be more demanding than you would like, but two weeks between games could be a little long in terms of mentality.

Like others have said though, whichever way the result goes people will make connections anyway.
