LCFCtotheprem Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 Hi, I am currently choosing which uni I want to go to next year and it is between Manchester and Nottingham. I am currently a Season Ticket holder and every week all I look forward to is the next lcfc match. They are both similar courses but I think I prefer Manchester as a city slightly more, however the train from Manchester to Leicester is over 2 hours and is also very expensive to do alternate weekends and also others I know who have been to uni say that people that aren't at uni most weekends struggle to get friends/are less liked etc. My parents think it is ridiculous that I am basically choosing my uni around lcfc, but if I give up my season ticket ticket it may be years before I get it back, and I would miss going to matches so much. What do you think I should do?
Guest Kopfkino Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 I went to uni this year and gave up my season ticket, ignore your parents
Guest kristianity77 Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 Dont come back on the train, use National Express, will be miles cheaper. Manchester is a much better place to be anyway. Much more to see and do.
Ozwin Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 Now you've got a season ticket you might aswell get one even if you can't get to every game because they're going to be like gold dust this summer for those of us unlucky enough to not get one this year.

LcFc_Smiv Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 Manchester to Nottingham is a fairly easy trip on the train, just over 90mins and if you book your train tickets in advance fairly cheap. I usually catch a lift from Notts to leic but I have done it on the train or coach which again booked in advance is fairly easy. Wouldn't say you get judged whether you go home every other weekend, if someone doesn't like you because you go to a football game every other weekend then their not worth the hassle. I'm with Dan though, Hallams definitely the way to go whether it has your course or not!
Len Finsbury Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 In all honesty, if you're choosing which uni to go to based on whether you can get to City matches then you need to have a word with yourself. The decisions you make now will influence the rest of your life, why piss about with them. Unless you're doing a noddy degree like art or PE or something, then it doesn't matter of course. Alternatively, use Megabus. Takes bloody ages but from Manchester to Leicester it's £6 return, which is what... 3 pot noodles?
Wakeyfox Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 I'll gladly look after your season ticket for the next three years while you're at uni!
ajthefox Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 Get yourself a railcard and go to Manchester. The journey isn't that bad and you will make loads of friends regardless of going back to leicester every other week for football.
stevelcfc Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 First year at Surrey, still a Season ticket holder and have only had to miss 3 games this season. 1 for moving in and the other 2 were Chelsea and West Brom. Costs me about £11 each way to get back. What is it you want to do?
Bettsj2 Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 Manchester all the way. Its not that far to travel for a match either.
GaelicFox Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 People won't judge you by your degree result They will by your failure to support your team What's wrong with Leics Uni ? Or the Polly
LCFCtotheprem Posted 6 March 2016 Author Posted 6 March 2016 People won't judge you by your degree result They will by your failure to support your team What's wrong with Leics Uni ? Or the Polly I have Leicester as one of my 5 unis but the course isn't great and the student halls weren't great First year at Surrey, still a Season ticket holder and have only had to miss 3 games this season. 1 for moving in and the other 2 were Chelsea and West Brom. Costs me about £11 each way to get back. What is it you want to do? Business economics
LCFCtotheprem Posted 6 March 2016 Author Posted 6 March 2016 What does your gut feeling/instinct tell you to do? Uni wise my gut instinct is to go to Manchester, I think i just have to come to the fact that I won't be able to go to everygame. But I have plenty of people who would go if I cant

But I have plenty of people who would go if I cant Well there's your answer my friend. Trust your instincts - that's why we have them, to guide us...
Mark_w Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 I chose a Uni local enough to travel in and have kept my season ticket for us winning the Championship, the greatest escape in Premier League history and quite possibly winning the Premier League. Go to Nottingham.
Danno Posted 6 March 2016 Posted 6 March 2016 Bought a season ticket again this year and i've only been to about 10 games all season. Waking up before 12 is effort.
ScouseFox Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 it's really not hard to travel to games. you just get a railcard sit on a train and go asleep for like two hours and you're there. you get a student loan you don't need so price isn't an issue. you can easily get to the game and back for a night out if missing out on socialising is a concern. ive not done uni but i can't imagine a massive amount happens in a student house on a saturday afternoon ao you won't be missing much there. leicester is in the middle of the country, it's easy and pretty quick to get to from basically everywhere.
Bryn Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 If getting games is important to you don't go to Manchester, the train is too much of a ballache from there with a hangover, trust me I tried. Stay local, you'll still get an immense Uni experience and you'll be able to get to games without giving up your whole weekend to do it.
KFS Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 People who aren't around on Saturdays are less liked? Absolute bollocks mate. Do what is going to make you happy. My advice is to go to the best Uni available (good employability rate and lecturing quality) since you're going to be loading 9k of debt on yourself for the next 3-4 years. Keep your season ticket and just travel from wherever. Trust me, it will be a lot more valuable going to watch City than laying in bed all day watching Netflix as a hangover cure. That's all your housemates will be doing on weekends anyway. Let's face it, wherever you go you'll be shithot property simply because you're a Leicester fan
Itsthejoeker Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 Warwick and Loughborough both have decent business departments. I don't see the problem with making sure you can still do the things you enjoy whilst doing a degree, Uni courses are what you make of it.
