DJ Barry Hammond Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 You could always go to Old Trafford instead!
Countryfox Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 My parents think it is ridiculous that I am basically choosing my uni around lcfc, My parents told me to get a job like every one else. However, I ignored them and went to Salford ... had a great time .... didn't get a degree mind but had a great time for two years.
Voll Blau Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 Think your mates are a bit weird if they only socialised at uni at weekends.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 My parents think it is ridiculous that I am basically choosing my uni around lcfc, They're correct I'm afraid mate. You can handle the travel trust me, as people said just jump on a National Express or a train if you can get a cheap one. Midweek games become a non starter but you can always sell your seat on at face value to help fund your trips back at the weekends. Think your mates are a bit weird if they only socialised at uni at weekends. Exactly, you've got all week to to the standard student stuff, dedicate the weekends to LCFC
ousefox Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 Think your mates are a bit weird if they only socialised at uni at weekends. Apart from some Saturday evenings, nothing ever really happens.
ScouseFox Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 you can do there and back from manchester in 2h3m for less than thirty quid with a railcard. don't let that put you off going to a better city and a better uni. that's basically nothing in terms of time and money. also when you start going to uni making mates etc you probably find you're less bothered about missing a match.

This is true. I think it might be an age thing too. Driving from York - Leicester on a monday night for a game I can watch on sky at my mates has no appeal to me now whatsoever.

Driving from York - Leicester on a monday night for a game I can watch on sky at my mates has no appeal to me now whatsoever. yeah exactly. when we were rubbish i'd wake up with a hangover and occasionally i'd even already have bought train tickets but i'd just think nah cba. obviously now we're good and i can't go most weeks whenever i get the chance i'm there like a shot but if i was in uni and didn't have to work most days, there would deffo be times (aka monday vs newcastle like you say) where i'd think pub for free with my mates get drunk and watch it vs 2 hour drive on my bill, no booze, watch the game and two hour drive back on my bill too? probably only be one winner.
Fox92 Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 I went to Uni in Manchester and still had my season ticket. I shared it with my brother during the three years though - the games I didn't come back for he just went too. I still got to a lot of the games though... I went to the same amount of aways as I would if I wasn't at Uni (the only one I missed where I would have gone was Barnsley when we won 0-3 but I couldn't get because there was a problem at Piccadilly and trains were stood). Don't let it influence your Uni decision - ie don't choose Nottingham just "because it's closer". Me best mate at Uni had/has a season ticket at Hull so whenever I went home for a game so did he.
ousefox Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 I had one in Newcastle for a year actually I've just remembered - so you have no excuse!
Claridge Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 Be careful in Nottingham, you might get shit on by a crow
Guest Mee-9 Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 I gave my season ticket up when I went uni. Fair enough I only go Uni in Nottingham, but the commitment is crazy and when you're paying for trains every week its crazy. Get some fanny, and get a life besides the footy. That's what I say.

That's what I say. what? it's like 20 minutes on a train from nottingham to leicester and with a railcard you can get a return for about 8 quid. 8 quid every other week is definitely not "crazy". homeless, jobless people would probably see that as affordable, let alone people who get thousands of pounds for nothing every few months. as for "the commitment", what else do students do between like 1pm and 6pm on a saturday? sit and watch soccer saturday? sleep? you made it sound like he's getting a season ticket to boca juniors not somewhere half an hour away.
LCFCtotheprem Posted 7 March 2016 Author Posted 7 March 2016 Thanks for the advice, keep it coming... Lots of different views so far
Izzy Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 Thanks for the advice, keep it coming... Lots of different views so far You don't need any more advice mate, deep down you know exactly what to do

bmt Posted 8 March 2016 Posted 8 March 2016 I had one for a year that I shared with someone else. It's not too difficult to work out, and most socialising takes place in the week in first year anyway. Go to Manchester it's way more fun.
Guest Col city fan Posted 8 March 2016 Posted 8 March 2016 My son is in his final year at Nottingham and absolutely loves the City. The reasons why: Sport (he loves it), is brilliant. The facilities are superb. Nightlife (he's always out) is much much better than Leicester. .and, he says, so are the women. And theres lots of them.... When he wants to come home, he just jumps on the train and it's about 25 mins. Useful when he wants to see home games. He's going to try to find work and stay in Nottingham after Uni. He genuinely has no inclination whatsoever to return to Leicester.
billyn88 Posted 8 March 2016 Posted 8 March 2016 I had a season ticket from 03/04 to 05/06 inclusive and gave it up when I went to Newcastle. Missing the 06/07 season still haunts me to this day...
Nick Posted 8 March 2016 Posted 8 March 2016 Hi, I am currently choosing which uni I want to go to next year and it is between Manchester and Nottingham. I am currently a Season Ticket holder and every week all I look forward to is the next lcfc match. They are both similar courses but I think I prefer Manchester as a city slightly more, however the train from Manchester to Leicester is over 2 hours and is also very expensive to do alternate weekends and also others I know who have been to uni say that people that aren't at uni most weekends struggle to get friends/are less liked etc. My parents think it is ridiculous that I am basically choosing my uni around lcfc, but if I give up my season ticket ticket it may be years before I get it back, and I would miss going to matches so much. What do you think I should do? What are you proposing to study? 'Similar in terms of courses doesn't really cut it! Compare the courses and the student experience as a starter for ten.
Wymsey Posted 8 March 2016 Posted 8 March 2016 Never understood the point in lectures, in particular, considering all the material for it is released on the University student area thing and that lecturers just read from the PowerPoint slides.
