MC Prussian Posted 19 March 2016 Posted 19 March 2016 I'd be very surprised if the Swiss manager didn't have contact with his captain prior to naming the squad. It's friendly and perhaps he wants to try some new faces in preparation for the summer. It's not like he doesn't know Inler's game. He'll be at the Euros, no doubt. That's the bizarre part - Petkovic was indeed at Leicester a week or two ago, discussing EURO things with Inler. Omitting him from the squad now comes across as a bit of a dick move, I think. But again, let's see where we are in May/June.
MC Prussian Posted 19 March 2016 Posted 19 March 2016 Inler, far from inspiring "hatred" or even "dislike" does nothing for my emotions. (...) Yet he moves you enough to provoke a response of epic proportions.

Sometimes I think Managers put to much faith in players playing regularly. I'd be more interested in his Stats from Training. If there ok then I'd include him in the Squad and the Friendly's. Good players can adjust quickly.
The Guvnor Posted 19 March 2016 Posted 19 March 2016 Yet he moves you enough to provoke a response of epic proportions. He was responding to a claim he 'hates' a player, don't think I would have been too lmpressed with that allegation either.
MC Prussian Posted 19 March 2016 Posted 19 March 2016 He was responding to a claim he 'hates' a player, don't think I would have been too lmpressed with that allegation either. I was referring to Inler, ... does nothing for my emotions. So Thrac's response is irony in its purest sense.
Meltonfossefox Posted 19 March 2016 Posted 19 March 2016 He's not the only player to not make the starting line-up yet keep his head down and just be available if needed. Don't know of many players regardless of price/reputation that would expect to get into this starting 11 right now. Someone just said on here fair play for not picking someone who isn't playing often. (Hope Roy sees it that way)
Thracian Posted 19 March 2016 Posted 19 March 2016 Thracian - is your assessment of GI at all clouded by your faith in AK and the fact that the two are competing for the same place? I agree that AK is the better player for us at the moment. Inler did a decent job home to citeh - I haven't seen him in the first team since so a current judgement is tough. I wonder if, given the change in playing style due to the general change in tactics by the opposition, perhaps he might look a bit better? King has nothing to do with the issue. Kante arrived as a midfielder about the same time as Inler and I can't remember writing a critical word about him. The point being that Kante has played between "well" and "outstanding" every time he's worn the shirt and if Inler had done anything like that we wouldn't be having this discussion at all. But he hasn't. Have I been canvassing for King to be in Kante's place or Drinkwater's? Not at all. I'm more than happy with our team selection this season. King can't get into our first choice team, any more than Inler, Amartey, Schlupp, Wasl, Ulloa, Gray and Chilwell. The difference is that, unlike Inler, the rest don't seem to have "followers" promoting their case, they just get on with it and wait their next opportunity (Euro selection or not).
Thracian Posted 19 March 2016 Posted 19 March 2016 I was referring to So Thrac's response is irony in its purest sense. As ever you're quite wrong. It's not Inler but this thread that is the issue. I remember the last time "followers" promoted a player for our team....Kaebi. And what an embarrassment that turned out.
AyewJoking Posted 19 March 2016 Posted 19 March 2016 We play 442. Kante and Drinkwater have been the best central midfield pairing in the league, must be amongst the best in Europe. Of course Inler isnt going to get a look in. Even if he wants to stay beyond this season why would we sacrifice a place in the squad for someone who obviously isnt rated too highly by the manager? Not that i particularly want him gone but you'd assume we'll strengthen over the summer so his opportunities here will only suffer.

We can only play 2 central midfielders, so unless you come up with a magic trick and create a team consisting of twelve players, matches for Inler or King will remain far and few in between. If... if Inler had been playing as often as Kanté or Drinkwater, would we be having this discussion at all? Your love for King has been obvious for ages, you've just kept it more quiet in the past few weeks (you were a stench advocate of his earlier this season still). I'm as much a "follower" of Inler as you are of King. And comparing Inler's situation with regards to Team Switzerland (including his sportive past and experience) with people like Gray or Chilwell who are just finding into pro football is ludicrous. But it's not the first time you tar people generously with your broad brush. As ever you're quite wrong. It's not Inler but this thread that is the issue. I remember the last time "followers" promoted a player for our team....Kaebi. And what an embarrassment that turned out. If the thread is the issue, why don't you simply avoid it? Hassan Kaebi. Good attempt at fishing, Tony.
erlee Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Christ. He'll be happy. why would he be happy? i haven't seen him in a full match,,,, is he any good?
st albans fox Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 Caught a short bit of footage on MOTD with him looking very happy at the end of the game. now benny has gone, it's always easy to identify him !
BlueTillIDie Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 Spent too much time in Italy and the pace of the Engish game is too much for him to adapt too at this stage of his career. Needs a loan in Italy, Germany or even back to Switzerland and see what we can recoup in the summer. No hard feelings just not quite worked out and wish him well
st albans fox Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 We need him on the bench for whichever knockout game in the CL goes to pens ................
smr Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 I feel for him, he's always smiling, always happy on his social media statuses - walking through bradgate park a few weeks ago, dining out around leicester with his friends etc. always seems in really good spirits, and he's a bloody good player as well - unfortunate for him that he hasn't been able to make it into the side this season but i'll be he'll be annoyed at being omitted from the swiss squad. Quite something to be captain at the start of the season and then totally omitted by the end of it really come to think of it!
whetstonefox Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 In any normal season he would probably have had many more opportunities to prove himself , however this is no normal season! It is bad luck for him that he hasn't had enough games in a season that leads to a major tournament, that said I'm surprised he wasn't called up to the Swiss team just to give him some match time. You never know if he stays next season he may be an asset in Europe and also would have had a year adapting to the English game. Personally I think he will go but wouldn't be unhappy if he stayed as his attitude seems to fit in with the squad.
shen Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 He's not good enough, simple as. Good pro or not, we need better. Where's the evidence he could be a big player for us next season? I haven't seen any. Football is a harsh game I'm afraid. Where was the evidence Simpson or even Drinkwater would be big players for us this season? Morgan had a largely torrid time for three quarters of last season, yet he's been arguably the best central defender this season in the entire league. Inler might come good, and MC brings up a fine point with the added fixtures next season.
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 I bet MC is very unhappy about this! I'm surprised he's not even made the squad. But I'm not surprised Napoli let him go at all.

Guest Col city fan Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 Shouldnt we all be unhappy a member of our team has been dropped by his country. Yes, some more than others though I suspect.
Fox42 Posted 22 March 2016 Posted 22 March 2016 One thing I've noticed about certain players in the past four successive seasons, there's always a few that look completely out of place with the team but make a monumental step up after a full year in Leicester. I feel like Inler can be one of those guys; he's shown glimpses of what he's worth at times, but has been massively inconsistent. Funny thing is if he was playing for a team down the bottom, he would almost certainly have been called up for international duty, as he would've been the focal point of any of those squads down there.
MC Prussian Posted 23 March 2016 Posted 23 March 2016 Inler has been a model professional over all these years, but seen his options limited a Napoli which prompted him to seek a move elsewhere. That he would be part of such a fairytale season with one of the initially most unfashionable title contenders, no one could foresee back in August 2015. He is both the "victim" of our success as well as probably guilty himself for "underestimating the league" at the start (I think Ranieri was quoted as such in a Swiss newspaper a few weeks back). He highly likely won't get past Drinkwater and Kanté again this season - unless we secure the title early on and Ranieri allows some of the fringe players to gain some first-team match practice. Let's get this straight: The situation here doesn't just affect Inler, but others, as well: King, Ulloa (to a certain extent), Dyer, Schlupp, Amartey, Moore, Wasilewski, Gray, Chilwell... They all share the same "fate", as their appearances have been limited to bit parts at most for a while now. Inler has never been blessed with skills or tricks (he's a defensive midfielder, after all), all his abilities have been amassed over a long period and through hard work. He used to give himself challenges even at a young age, practicing with his left foot until he could use it as well as his right one, for instance. He's dedicated, a fighter and giving it all in training. Shame it hasn't worked out yet but like I've said before, thing can change quickly in football. He can and will be a valuable asset for any European campaign. I'm very much looking forward to that.
ScouseFox Posted 23 March 2016 Author Posted 23 March 2016 so mad comparing inler to king ffs have some respect. also interested to see how someone who got made to look sunday league by aston villa and bury is going to be a great asset when we've got real madrid away.
