We get the same stuff written each summer, it was no different when we signed Fuchs, Okazaki and Kante. "no better than what we've got", "can't move forward with squad player" etc etc... Just like they didn't know many of the players we sign. And if you knew Barbosa then I'll eat my hat. Especially when the only time fans were appeased at all last summer was when Inler finally arrived and look how that turned out. He more insignificant than a cheeky blast of vape in the concourse.
tsintskaro Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 5 new signing 1 is second keeper,1 defender who will sit on bench,1 CMF who has injury and before that was not quit adapted to pl,1 winger who only plays in u23 and one winger/attacker who comes in second halt as substitute so they bring just 1 starting player and 1 who plays few minutes terrific

I'm not talking about whether they 'work' or not..they might or might not, who the fook knows? I'm talking about going down on Saturday afternoon thinking I'm going to be watching (add big name here) in a City shirt! Wow! Especially now as we have the dosh AND we are Champions League! Rather than King and Drinkwater in the midfield... I knew you wouldn't agree. I'm simply being honest... Regarding eating your hat, do you want salt and pepper? He's not saying that at all but it's not easy to replace an XI that is as united as ours and that won the league at a canter, it would be disrespectful to do so. Not a single one of us knows whether Hernandez, Mendy, Kaputska or Musa will become first choice in the next few months. Mendy and MUSA are likely to get in but how on earth could you break up Morgan and Huth? Hernandez will have to prove his worth in the cups and take his chances that come his way.

Wymsey Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 Hernanes from Juventus. Comparable to Drinkwater and not playing much.

They need to get in our team on merit and reputation means fcuk all at this club. I'll be miffed of we go in to the next few months with the midfield options we've got, it's too big a gamble.

We've still got Gray settling in and hopefully playing more of a role. It's easy to yearn for a constant stream of signings, especially when you see the amount the big guns are bringing in this summer. The thing is they HAVE to bring them in just to reclaim their throne off us, we need to healthily improve our options.

Since January last year we've added Gray, Amartey, Musa, Mendy, Kapustka, Zieler, Hernandez, to a squad that was already top of the league (so I'll presume it was quite good). People act like it was imperative to improve upon the starting 11. It would have been good to get players better in a couple of positions, but it really wasn't the be all / end all as they all still produced the goods last year. If we couldn't get some targets improve on any of those 10, then we still have 10 of 11 starters that won it and 7 players still bedding into the squad.

But I've just read Martin Caceres is a free agent. Perfectly good cover at Centre Half and Right Back thats more than capable of breaking into the first 11. Juve champions league experience and Uruguay international. Not going to leave Italy according to latest press releases and just recently recovered from a lengthy injury spell. Will need time to get back to his usual self and we can't afford that luxury.

Well I get more joy out of picking up players and us making them names, than pumping £35m on someone who's not far off 29 like Mata and probably wouldn't give two shits about us. You get to watch the player of the year, a record breaking goalscorer, a load of premier league winners and some young up and coming talent... not enough? And Gabriel Barbosa has been touted as the next wonder kid to come out of South America for at least the last two years. Listen to Tim Vickery, amongst many others. Its not my fault if you didnt know about him. Finally, for one more time, YES, I'd love the club to sign at least one big name. Simply, I'd like to be able to see even more quality at the KP. Over and out.

He was vey poor vs Hull but then it was hardly a game where any of our players shined. Gray and Kaputska have a lot of ability and will be used this season which gives us options. I'd not be surprised to see Kaptuska first choice by the winter, he is that highly rated. I'd much rather we have prospects like that than someone like Bolasie at £30 million who might or might not improve us. Musa is not just a copy of Vardy it's clear he can play out wide or in behind and that is exactly the sort of exciting option you are craving, surely? Long term Ulloa will need replacing and I'd have liked that to be this summer but if we have him for another season it's not the end of the world, for all his faults he will win us points at times and that's invaluable. Likewise we need another progressive right back long term and a younger centre half but this is all a work in progress. Our main concern is central midfield and if the reports are true that we are plotting a big bid for N'Zonzi then happy days.

Gerard Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 Tielemans from Anderlecht or Bazoer from Ajax now neither are in the Champions League. Continue our theme of signing top class teenagers.

I take it back... you did know Barbosa, because you offered us these nuggets about his talent "I sign him on football manager. He's great" Why does everything have to be extremes on here? For one Mata is not going for anything close to 35mil and you are in little position to offer insight as to if he would "care about us". But that is besides the point, there seems to be this aversion to top talent/ apologist sentiment vis a vis the managers incapacity to improve on the starting eleven as to make us more competitive in this completely different premier league season. Let us examine facts about our team as presently constituted. We ARE a weaker team with less potential than LAST year, there is no debating this. Kante left a void that has yet to be filled which has left the transition from defense to the attacking third disjointed, we have a hard time creating chances because of a mundane midfield. Mendy and Drinkwater are essentially the same player, they have simillar skills sets and mindsets; one is just more adjusted to the prem. Now either the manager changes system (which he has shown no intention of doing) or he signs a player that brings similar qualities to Kante at least from an offensive point of view because as a team the players can all make up for what Kante as an individual did defensively. Now if you look at the tape on Kante, what he was so effective at doing is making an interception a goal scoring opportunity. CURRENTLY we are BELOW average at creating opportunities in a highly rigid, tactical game AS WELL as in transition. Signings must be made are we will simply be a poor man's version of last year's team, to me this is clear as day and i can not for the life of me understand how you people fail to see this. NOBODY is asking for world beaters but a player like Brahimi from Porto is somebody that we could sign for 30+ mil that would have a HUGE impact on the team, address many of our weaknesses and add an extra dimension. I will expand further after i finish this lift.

Bazoer is another thing altogether. I will refrain from making any FM comments.
