It's created one of the biggest stories in the history of sport. You've given Mendy 50 minutes before writing him off and you given the manager no time at all to tweak how his system works to get the best out of what he's got... Something he excelled at last season. You and a bunch of others on here are underwhelmed every year. We get the same stuff written each summer, it was no different when we signed Fuchs, Okazaki and Kante. "no better than what we've got", "can't move forward with squad player" etc etc... We won the bloody league. We won't know if what we've got will work or not yet and won't for quite a while. For now it's guess work and fear because people don't know them... Just like they didn't know many of the players we sign. And if you knew Barbosa then I'll eat my hat. He will have known Barbosa as he's a great player on football manager.

Bazoer is another thing altogether. I will refrain from making any FM comments. I'm amazed Bazoer hasn't gone yet. He's a top talent and he would be the ideal replacement for Kante. I thought he was the best player on the park when England played Holland
STUHILL Posted 25 August 2016 Posted 25 August 2016 I am not sure why we need another CB. I don't understand why we would sign Hernandez and extend Wasil's contract if neither of them were going to play ever, as Morgan and Huth will start most big games if fit and the ones they miss, I assume Hernandez will come in for. We also have Benny who actually looked decent last year and so that is 5 CB's. I can't see any CB coming in now and either Morgan or Huth being dropped after how great they were last year anyway. So Hernandez (just signed), Wasil (just extended) and Benny will all have few opportunities to start but are probably aware of that. Next season will be a different story and when we should be looking towards players like Keane and other CB's for starting positions as Wes and Huth will be a year older. RB is still a difficult one. Simpson was so great last year but even now, many fans still are waiting for his form to drop and be the player we all thought he would probably be, but he looked great in the Arsenal game again and so I don't see why we should change him. With Amartey and Hernandez capable of playing there, my only interest would be signing a young Chilwell type, who can play 10-15 games this year and look to push for a starting place next season. I really think our starting back 4 should stay the same, after how great they were last year. CDM is an absolute must. I actually don't see Drinky and Mendy starting together will bring us that much success. I think we need a genuine CDM and someone strong and powerful who is also good in the air. N'Zonzi for me ticks ALL those boxes! Really hope we sign him soon and then the midfield for me is done. With Drinky. NZonzi, Mendy, King, Amartey and James to get some game time on loan in the championship. ST is needed but not as essential as a CDM. I think Vardy and Musa will do great for us but they are very similar. Okazaki is such a menace and so important to have for putting pressure on the opposition and making things happen for other strikers. Only have to see the difference he made on our performance against Arsenal and how we missed him against Hull. Ulloa will always be the 10min man. Someone to come on and hold the ball up and chip in with a late goal or two. If we really want to push top 6, then I think we need another star striker. Slimani for me, big, strong and great finisher. Something different to Vardy who could play alongside him and hold the ball up and be a threat in the box with his strength in the air. In conclusion. A CDM (essential) and a Striker (much needed) and a young RB (desired) please!

Sly Posted 25 August 2016 Posted 25 August 2016 Bazoer is a good player no doubt. He's well guided by his mother from what I'm told. When he left PSV he had the chance to join Man City but declined it. He has been loyal to Ajax after joining them from PSV. He rejected Napoli in January when they'd had an offer of €25,000,000 reportable. Similar to our Riyad, he loves Barca, that's his dream move. Whether that changes with Ajax no longer being in the UCL, is a question only he can answer.

For one Mata is not going for anything close to 35mil and you are in little position to offer insight as to if he would "care about us". Well do let me know what you'd accept Jose, considering average toss like Bolasie is going for £30m now, Mata went for £37m last time and the market has lost its mind since then. It's hardly extreme to suggest they would be asking a very decent amount for him. Yeah, correct it was over the top I might not know if he'd care about us... but there is good reason we're wary about "names" dropping down the career ladder. Their hunger and effort being one of them. 7 hours ago, Mezeker said: But that is besides the point, there seems to be this aversion to top talent/ apologist sentiment vis a vis the managers incapacity to improve on the starting eleven as to make us more competitive in this completely different premier league season. There is no aversion to top talent, there is an aversion to people constantly going on about names and turning their noses up at people who don't cost you £30m. We've got where we are without spending large money and without plunging for hyped up "names". I don't give a toss whether they cost £5m or £50m, whether I've heard of them or not... I just want good players. If we can get them, like we did with Kante, Mahrez, Drinkwater, Vardy etc without paying the premium for "names". Then it's a far better way of going about it, but if the management decide their is a "name" with the required assets so be it. As for improving the team, we've played two games. We were never going to better Kante, he should have cost Chelsea £50m. There were a few positions that looked like we could perhaps improve upon them, but it was hardly critical... we still won the league with them. If the right players weren't available it's hardly critical to replace them. Getting a much stronger squad was quite critical though to compete on more fronts, and the squad is in a much better position than it was the start of last season. 7 hours ago, Mezeker said: Let us examine facts about our team as presently constituted. We ARE a weaker team with less potential than LAST year, there is no debating this. Kante left a void that has yet to be filled which has left the transition from defense to the attacking third disjointed, we have a hard time creating chances because of a mundane midfield. Mendy and Drinkwater are essentially the same player, they have simillar skills sets and mindsets; one is just more adjusted to the prem. Well, yes it is debatable. Their stats and how they played last season don't show them as being similar at all. We created more than enough chances to bury Hull and it's difficult to judge those sorts of things against Arsenal. 7 hours ago, Mezeker said: Now either the manager changes system (which he has shown no intention of doing) or he signs a player that brings similar qualities to Kante at least from an offensive point of view because as a team the players can all make up for what Kante as an individual did defensively. Now if you look at the tape on Kante, what he was so effective at doing is making an interception a goal scoring opportunity. It took 9 games last season for Ranieri to see how we worked and make tweaks and changes to how we played to start getting the best out of the team. He's also hinted at different formations being tried. So how about we give him a chance. 7 hours ago, Mezeker said: CURRENTLY we are BELOW average at creating opportunities in a highly rigid, tactical game AS WELL as in transition. Two games... FFS.
MC Prussian Posted 25 August 2016 Posted 25 August 2016 Bentaleb likely to join Schalke 04 and Bas Dost has a concrete offer on the table from Sporting Lisbon. Fans of the pair may as well cross these two off your wish list.

Bluearmyfox28 Posted 25 August 2016 Posted 25 August 2016 How about Ayoze Perez anyone? Thought he was great for Newcastle last year.

amurray9 Posted 26 August 2016 Posted 26 August 2016 What about Calum Chambers? Could provide an extra body at the back to be careful with if injuries occur. Would also not be someone that would have to start, but you could see him challenging for a potential '3rd string role' as we Americans say. http://metro.co.uk/2016/08/26/arsenal-ace-calum-chambers-could-go-out-on-loan-if-shkodran-mustafi-transfer-is-completed-admits-arsene-wenger-6091594/ EDIT: Very sorry, did not realize this should go in the who do you want? category.
filbertstreet Posted 26 August 2016 Posted 26 August 2016 would be decent competition for simpson, have we actually been linked though?
Frank_mckenzie Posted 26 August 2016 Posted 26 August 2016 If it was permanent then yes but on loan no.
