net spend doesn't work as purely transfer fees in vs out, for an incoming player you divide over the length of the contract plus their yearly salary, e.g. Musa would be listed as £6.5m per year if he's on £45k per week

I guess you do the same for the player leaving as well? I'm sure the amount we will save on rdl, moore, Krama, Schwarzer, konchesky + Inler and benalouane wages if they leave will also counter balance the incoming contracts

Inler is on £60k, RDL £30k :schlupp: ish apparently so they say!

What about Sandro?

At QPR, Played for west brom on loan last season now returned to the championship, Surely he's prem level?

Please God no. Would be similar to when we signed Ricky Hill back in the Pleat out days.

Another reason why Inler was such an awful signing.

If we weren't paying him 60k per week for nothing (it's like free money to him) we'd have that to use on paying someone top notch. Someone who actually played, for a start.

Say we could have tempted Mata to join us, but he wanted 150k per week. This forum would be full of 'but we can't pay 150k per week'!

If we DIDNT have Inler on the books, we'd have to find 90k per week for Mata. That would be acceptable, I presume, to the masses?

Inler needs to go. The problem is no one wants him AND he appears content to sit on his salary with us till his contract runs out. For doing, effectively, nowt.

This is a joke right?

I suppose I'll get hammered for this, along the lines of 'being disloyal', 'it's the team that counts' and other such throw away stuff.

But having won the league, being in the Champions League and having tons of tv money (as in, tons!) I (probably foolishly) thought we'd really push the boat out and sign at least one really top notch player. Someone to really excite and to say we've really moved onto another era. Someone who, come Saturday, I'd be going down the City thinking 'wow' I'm gonna be seeing (enter name here) in a City shirt!

As it is, it's likely we were going to be watching a central midfield of Drinkwater and King. Good players, for sure, and City through and through. But now what I'm talking about.

Oh well...

These big name players don't always make a team better. Look at the way Portugal seemed to improve in the Euro final when Ronaldo went off. It's about finding players who fit into the team ethic we've established with the honest hardworking lads who won the league by 10 points last season.

We're the worst team in the world at keeping transfers secret so if we were signing someone big we'd know about it by now.

Slightly disappointed tbf, but then I remember we've done so well keeping most of the squad together.

Pleased with the squad improvement but the fact that our starting 11 looks weaker than last seasons is disappointing. Still think another CM and right back are needed. The big strong number 10 can wait for now though as it would be crazy money to buy this late in the window.

If theres no substantial links by the weekend then I cant see anyone else coming in. I had a feeling we were done quite a while ago. Its a shame as there are definitely areas we could do with strengthening especially with coming into one of the biggest seasons in the clubs history.

That's rather harsh - wasn't the Cambiasso deal for instance a big surprise to everyone (outside the football club)?

The cambiasso links were in the papers WEEKS before we actually signed him.

Hey guys someone said on here before that Walsh was a bit 'leaky' when it came to transfers (hence all the rumours seem to be correct as Everton have been in for virtually everyone we have for the last year). Rudkin doesn't talk to the media apparently, so we might find that it's going to be done under the radar (I hope). On another note only just realised CL  tickets were on sale this morning for gold members, thank Fuchs I've got mine :trumpet:

I really think we should've gone for Matuidi. Very ambitious and he probably would've said no, but I hope we did try. €25 million for him is peanuts, really would've taken us to the next level, Juventus getting another cracking midfielder.

It just seems to me like we are at a crossroads. An unexpected one. None of us expected us to be where we are at this time last season.

Now we are here, we are STILL 'creating'. Which might be the best way to go, or if we fall away, we'll probably all think we've missed a real chance here.

All I'm saying is, just ONE, top notch player would have been really exciting. I'd have loved to combine the 'creating' as you rightly call it, we've one or two 'established'. And I thought we would do that.

I reiterate, we are probably going to be starting on Saturday with a central midfield of Drinky and King. It's like going back to the Championship days! lol

Im just surprised, I guess, and a little disappointed too. Just to be going down to watch a Gabriel Barbosa or a Mata would have been lovely.

A player you'd probably never heard of until this summer. Musa looks pretty bloody exciting to me, so how about we give him a chance?

Not having that. "Col" knows all the best players in football.

From Jay Emmanuel Thomas to Lee Cattermole. If there's one man on the forum that knows every major talent in football, it's "Col."

I was chatting with a lad last week and he does scouting for Leicester. He gave me an overview of his role, what he does etc and how the club goes about our scouting. He advised that we watch loads of players but it's generally a 6 - 18 month process from initial identification so they can compile a full report. So a lot of the people we are linked to, are generally guff as we've sent someone to have a gander at them.

Not really that enlightening or earth shattering information really. Apparently all clubs are the same!

I did ask who we'd look at for midfield replacements for Kantè and he said we wouldn't always look for a like for like replacement as we could adapt the team format. We'd have a list drawn up though in case of long term injuries etc! He joked and basically said it isn't that dissimilar from a Football Manager shortlist.

Ultimately they compile reports which get reviewed higher up. We've looked at the likes of Bazoer, Gueye, Tielmans, Kondogbia, Neves, Can etc, likewise we've watched Santamaria, Arrascatea and a few others that have since moved to other clubs and a few he highlighted as players I'd never heard of!

What it told me is that we aren't restrictive in who we look at, big name to relatively unknown. We'll be aware of many players attributes and marked them ourselves.

He did say scoting is subjective though and very much like all of us, we can watch people and have a different opinion. The book stops with Raneri. I'm guessing this is why the Kanté deal took so long, he needed convincing. Walsh alluded to this at the end of last season. Mendy was the preferred option as he already knew him I'd guess.

He said is CR feels the need, we'll invest if we feel the need. Very much like Arsenal though, why waste money, give current players a chance. Ultimately we are run as a business so we aren't going to blow £45,000,000 on a whim like the bank rolled clubs run by crazy rich megalomaniacs.

One last sat thing he said ..... money doesn't win you games, team spirit, hard work, togetherness and ability does. Leicester have this philosophy installed and that's what they look for. We could pay £100,000,000 for a single player, would it make us stronger as a team, not necessarily, the media just hype it that way. He told me not to be surprised if we didn't sign anyone else. Bring in a few at a time and let them embrace what Leicester are. Gain the understanding, philosophy etc!

Like I said, not ground breaking but I thought it might be worth a mention.

Interesting, and satisfying. That's exactly how I'd run things if I was in charge of a club and I'd take that over this "lets sign a marquee player without proper planning just to create some hype" culture that this country seems to have embraced.
