Defensively you can't nock him but the panick every time he has the ball at his feet is worrying, if we could sign a rb who's defensively as committed as him but also isn't afraid of the football we'd be laughing
sm1 Posted 22 August 2016 Posted 22 August 2016 How about Fosu Mensah. Probably be a loan deal if at all possible.

Sly Posted 23 August 2016 Posted 23 August 2016 I was chatting with a lad last week and he does scouting for Leicester. He gave me an overview of his role, what he does etc and how the club goes about our scouting. He advised that we watch loads of players but it's generally a 6 - 18 month process from initial identification so they can compile a full report. So a lot of the people we are linked to, are generally guff as we've sent someone to have a gander at them. Not really that enlightening or earth shattering information really. Apparently all clubs are the same! I did ask who we'd look at for midfield replacements for Kantè and he said we wouldn't always look for a like for like replacement as we could adapt the team format. We'd have a list drawn up though in case of long term injuries etc! He joked and basically said it isn't that dissimilar from a Football Manager shortlist. Ultimately they compile reports which get reviewed higher up. We've looked at the likes of Bazoer, Gueye, Tielmans, Kondogbia, Neves, Can etc, likewise we've watched Santamaria, Arrascatea and a few others that have since moved to other clubs and a few he highlighted as players I'd never heard of! What it told me is that we aren't restrictive in who we look at, big name to relatively unknown. We'll be aware of many players attributes and marked them ourselves. He did say scoting is subjective though and very much like all of us, we can watch people and have a different opinion. The book stops with Raneri. I'm guessing this is why the Kanté deal took so long, he needed convincing. Walsh alluded to this at the end of last season. Mendy was the preferred option as he already knew him I'd guess. He said is CR feels the need, we'll invest if we feel the need. Very much like Arsenal though, why waste money, give current players a chance. Ultimately we are run as a business so we aren't going to blow £45,000,000 on a whim like the bank rolled clubs run by crazy rich megalomaniacs. One last sat thing he said ..... money doesn't win you games, team spirit, hard work, togetherness and ability does. Leicester have this philosophy installed and that's what they look for. We could pay £100,000,000 for a single player, would it make us stronger as a team, not necessarily, the media just hype it that way. He told me not to be surprised if we didn't sign anyone else. Bring in a few at a time and let them embrace what Leicester are. Gain the understanding, philosophy etc! Like I said, not ground breaking but I thought it might be worth a mention.
Grewks Posted 23 August 2016 Posted 23 August 2016 Interesting post. Whilst I can certainly agree with a lot of it. Manchester United tried not signing big names under Van Gaal and it certainly didn't work. I think a balance is the most important. After all, Mahrez and Vardy are 'big names' now.

Finding a right-back who is apt at both? You're looking at a needle. In a haystack.

IainHumewasalright Posted 23 August 2016 Posted 23 August 2016 I know that there is the problem of price inflation but I'd still love it if we bought a first team player from another premier league club. I would love us to sign Virgil van Dijk (I know he signed a new contract but I would pay a lot of money for this guy) as a new centre back For RB I would take either Cedric from Southampton, Seamus Coleman or Trippier (I know he is not a 1st team player but would definitely challenge Simpson). I would also like to see us try and nab someone like Bojan from Stoke or Schneiderlin from the warmth of the United bench.
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 23 August 2016 Posted 23 August 2016 Catching up on the EFL, I generally wouldn't mind bringing back Knocky. I think as an impact sub with Musa or Okazaki could be lethal!
RoyFox Posted 23 August 2016 Posted 23 August 2016 So net spend running at -£1.5m....Time to go shopping....
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 August 2016 Posted 23 August 2016 I suppose I'll get hammered for this, along the lines of 'being disloyal', 'it's the team that counts' and other such throw away stuff. But having won the league, being in the Champions League and having tons of tv money (as in, tons!) I (probably foolishly) thought we'd really push the boat out and sign at least one really top notch player. Someone to really excite and to say we've really moved onto another era. Someone who, come Saturday, I'd be going down the City thinking 'wow' I'm gonna be seeing (enter name here) in a City shirt! As it is, it's likely we were going to be watching a central midfield of Drinkwater and King. Good players, for sure, and City through and through. But now what I'm talking about. Oh well...

I feel the same. However, a big name would mean bigger wages, and probably a different attitude than what we need. We create superstars, not buy them. Although, i would have liked the Juan Mata rumour to have been true

Although, i would have liked the Juan Mata rumour to have been true It just seems to me like we are at a crossroads. An unexpected one. None of us expected us to be where we are at this time last season. Now we are here, we are STILL 'creating'. Which might be the best way to go, or if we fall away, we'll probably all think we've missed a real chance here. All I'm saying is, just ONE, top notch player would have been really exciting. I'd have loved to combine the 'creating' as you rightly call it, we've one or two 'established'. And I thought we would do that. I reiterate, we are probably going to be starting on Saturday with a central midfield of Drinky and King. It's like going back to the Championship days! Im just surprised, I guess, and a little disappointed too. Just to be going down to watch a Gabriel Barbosa or a Mata would have been lovely.
UPinCarolina Posted 23 August 2016 Posted 23 August 2016 I'd have to think that unless significant smoke signals begin appearing in the next few days, we'll be waiting until the January window to make any new signings.

An even harder window to sign players in and especially so with AFCON where teams are more reluctant of letting players go if their squads are missing players themselves. We've got to be a little more reckless in the next week and get 1 or 2 in at a potential higher cost than we'd like to pay.
Grantham Fox Posted 23 August 2016 Posted 23 August 2016 I've been saying a RB, CM and ST for ages along with the majority of others. Would anyone take James McCarthy from Everton? Apparently been told he can go. Him or William Carvalho would fill a gap.
cityfanlee23 Posted 23 August 2016 Posted 23 August 2016 What about Sandro? At QPR, Played for west brom on loan last season now returned to the championship, Surely he's prem level?
