Kitchandro Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Where the hell would they build a new one? Only needs increasing by 10,000 max but it needs a completely new look if we're honest. The club deserves a more interesting stadium with some unique stands.
Babylon Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 So cheap we didn't actually pay for it. Except we did, well... other than what Burse missed out on.
Jace Posted 6 May 2016 Author Posted 6 May 2016 Southampton were looking to completely revamp theres a few years ago, if you wasn't already aware structuraly its identical to ours
WigstonWanderer Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 How the hell did they manage to build the stadium for 37m? Even 15 years ago that seems cheap. Stadiums are apparently seriously expensive. Spurs are spending about 750m on their new one, admittedly more expensive in London I'd guess.
Rusko187 Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 I think a whole new stadium is excessive and no matter what the thais do it won't please everyone. Personally I'm still of the opinion to just leave it as it is for now, (if) the glory disappears it is inevitable we will lose fans, then it will be a lifeless empty shell. There is no harm in the demand but I'd be more open to an expansion in place of a new stadium. Unless they built something incredible like the Allianz, what a ground!
Nick Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 I can see it now - 20 Turrets surrounding the pitch 400ft high, containing executive boxes with panoramic views of the city and giant Golden elephants on the top of each. Bring it on .
Babylon Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 We are not going to build a new stadium, might as well forget that now.
Mythyaar Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Except we did, well... other than what Burse missed out on. Yes, Birse got 10p in the pound on remaining debt and about a £6 million hit overall. Birse employees from that era still unforgiving, believe me!
st albans fox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Yes, Birse got 10p in the pound. Birse employees from that era still unforgiving, believe me! so what was the teachers 40 million that the owners cleared a few years ago ?
filbertway Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Yes, Birse got 10p in the pound. Birse employees from that era still unforgiving, believe me! It'd be a nice gesture if we could somehow put that right now considering our extremely healthy financial position.
Voll Blau Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Big fvcking terrace. That's all we need. Problem sorted.
Guest Kopfkino Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Anything more architecturally appealing would be great
FrankieWorthoYaggedMyWife Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 We are not going to build a new stadium, might as well forget that now. stop talking sense
zacd14 Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Southampton were looking to completely revamp theres a few years ago, if you wasn't already aware structuraly its identical to ours st Marys cost £32 million though for pretty much same design and capacity, so obviously there were major corners cut somewhere
Fac51 Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 I think the approach will be an extension to two sides of the stadium to add a further 10,000 seats. Most likely to be the East and North stands. Extending the West stand would be a major redevelopment having to re-structure the Boxes / Offices / Facilities if done properly, thus, East/North seem a more pragmatic approach. A steelwork extension will be the most cost effective approach. Do we really need more than an additional 10,000 seats at this stage of our evolution?
Jace Posted 6 May 2016 Author Posted 6 May 2016 st Marys cost £32 million though for pretty much same design and capacity, so obviously there were major corners cut somewhere Thats what ours was estimated at originally too, but there would be other factors that would change that for example the cost of the land, the cosmetics etc you can see we never had the exterior cladding they had
Jace Posted 6 May 2016 Author Posted 6 May 2016 Derby and Middlesboroughs stadiums are based on the same structural blueprint as each other too
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 I think the approach will be an extension to two sides of the stadium to add a further 10,000 seats. Most likely to be the East and North stands. A steelwork extension will be the most cost effective approach. Do we really need more than an additional 10,000 seats at this stage of our evolution? Not in my opinion. I think even if we sustain top 6 for the next couple of season (which will be a HUGE ask), I think we'd to very well to sell out a 42K ground against the likes of Bournemouth, Watford, Burnley etc.
Finnaldo Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 No fvcking chance, what a waste that would be. Better off expanding and sprucing up Filbert Way.
whitlock Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 I'd have thought that it probably was a throw away comment about building a new stadium, can't see that happening.
Babylon Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 so what was the teachers 40 million that the owners cleared a few years ago ? £17m I think it was, and that was the outstanding amount left to pay off what was owed to Teachers. Teachers were effectively the bank that gave us the money for the ground. Look at Birse as the bloke you had in to do the extension. Teachers had a hold over the stadium, like the bank has a hold over your house when you've got a mortgage... Birse didn't.
ajthefox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 He's probably just saying that because they will consider how feasible each is and when they look into, they'll probably decide a new stadium isn't feasible. In any case, I'm completely against building a new stadium anyway. Aside from the fact it's a waste of time, money and resources, where would it be? Even if the land Filbo is on has been left to waste away, being next door means we are still at our spiritual home, and any move away from that would be wrong imo.
GazzinderFox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Hopefully any new stand(s) would result in the gutting and redesign of the existing concourses so that a) you could actually get in and out of the toilets and b) you could actually buy yourself a drink without having to leave your seat 5 minutes before the end of the first half.
Babylon Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 It'd be a nice gesture if we could somehow put that right now considering our extremely healthy financial position. If you want to get ITV digital to give us the £2.5m we got shafted for, which was one of the contributing factors to us going under... then I'm sure we might think about it. So long as Bournemouth, Southampton, Palace do it... and Boro and Hull if they come up.
